Autopsy Round 13, 2013 - Hawthorn v Eagles

We were beaten by a better side on the night, that's it in a nutshell.

I have to ask though, are my eyes deceiving me or is Franklin carrying a bit excess pudding around the midriff??

C'mon now twita

It was a very average thing to do and he should be embarrassed by it but I think you'll be disappointed when he gets 2 maybe 3 weeks at most since he was never going to do any real harm. It's not like he broke his jaw or anything

Anyway, you blokes were too good for us tonight - just too much class with roughy showing why he was picked in front of buddy in the draft

Good luck for the rest of the season and I hope you blokes take out the main prize as much as I wanted to punch a few of your blokes in the head tonight

All I wanted was the free kick Strats deserved

people, far to much abuse amongst hawthorn supporters in this forum...we won, we are on top of the ladder 11-1...be happy and don't get sidetracked abusing each other, reserve the abuse for bummer supporters

Abuse that only comes about because there is one individual in particular who personally attacks you if you form a view that he doesn't agree with. Keyboard heroism.

you must have missed those 10 hit out to advantages and 8 first touch clearances from Nic nat. his ruckwork was poetry in motion. the hawks ruckman only could nullify him when they tried to stop him from running and 3rd man up. anyhow enjoy your win and living in dreamland. good night

Freo fans love West Coast!

Bet you wish you had 4 points or a chance at finals. The way you guys are going you stand no chance. Season on the line, host of stars back in and the worlds most acrobatic and accomplished footballer and you still can't conjure a win. Weak as p*ss Eagles. Thats was the game you should have won and you were not good enough. Might be soul crushing for your team I think.

You're not normally this nasty. Well done. :thumbsu::D

Tonight I think I witnessed one of the worst umpiring displays towards a player. We're used to seeing him being manhandled and held with no reward but tonight was another level all together. The number of times Buddy was held, fully wrapped up, had a hand held way before the ball even arrived and so on was ridiculous. People in the stands around me were baffled at first but by the end of the game they were just laughing at how ridiculous it was. Tonight was just so frustrating to watch in that area and I think Buddy did well not to get frustrated himself and do something silly.

I agree..... I have nevr pretended to be bud's biggest fan but I was impressed tonight with the way he handled it all

I believe Buddy was lining up for goal, (and kicked truly), when the incident was initially picked up by C7?

When the incident occurred Max hadn't taken the mark - so no-one knew what would happen. There were 3 umpires out there and it was not picked up.

How tough was that game - blokes getting pummelled all night. Goo about 10 times :D

Eagles were very good. They were a different team than the last month or so, amazing what can happen when players actually decide to run and move.

Lake is amazing - love him. Sewell is a still a bit of a worry. I laughed when they were taping Ellis up on the bench before he had even come on - he was still wearing the sub vest getting something taped back together :D

I was a little underwhelmed to be honest. Offensively we were really sharp and unusually efficient which kept us in the game but other than for small blocks of the game we were defensively very lazy and gave them much too much room to do what they wanted. Really missed that manic chasing and tackling of Rioli AND Puopolo. First time we've conceded 100 since the Tom Hawkins match and if we had have played a decent defensive side who didn't allow us such easy scoring (i.e. other top 4 sides), then I think we lose this game.

As it is it is great to still be sitting on top and not play anywhere near our best footy. We have periods of games where we play it but it is spasmodic at the monent - perhaps deliberately....who knows.

As for the whole WCE free kick thing - my opinion after watching closely tonight is that the Duckers aren't the biggest issue. The concern is that the WCE ruckmen and backman practically have carte blanche to do as they please.

Buddy non-frees perhaps hit an all time low tonight considering how he was handled (yet they still manage to ping him or take them off him) and Glass must have actually tackled a player (usually Rough) all the way to ground 2 or 3 times while they were trying to mark without penalty. In fact I think I heard the rape charges against Milne have been dropped as they had the wrong man. Glass apparently is now facing charges.

Worse though is the luxuries afforded Cox and NN. They get frees themselves with such ease as to make Buddy cry yet all through the night I saw them man handle and throw Bails out of contests, nominate their competing ruckman who would engage ours at boundary throw ins and tie them up while the other came over the top and finally - Cox continually and deliberately jump straight into our rucks knees first at bounces without even any consideration of actually winning tap outs.

I think the focus needs to be less on not rewarding the Duckers and more on penalising the crap their rucks and backs are getting away with.
excellent post, says it all. Buddy should grow some dreads, or borrow some from Changa, may he would get a free

Savage was great, if i was Smith id be worried about my spot in the 22. Problem is SAVAGE IS NOT A SUB. The first 10 mins in the game he looked bad but he works his way into matches therefore he needs to play in the 21.

Gunston is fast becoming my favourite Hawk, how "Great Young Forwards" that are constantly brought up like Sam Reid, Daniher, Black etc yet no one mentions Gunston who productivity wise is the best key forward under 23 besides Cameron.

Longer he flys under the radar the better

It is amazing how we keep winning yet lose on the stat sheets..
Just proves that stats mean Shite if you can't kick goals which is the most important stat of all..

There is a lot in this. 2008 GF Geelong won everything except the game. 2009 St Kilda won everything except the game. 2012 Hawks won everything except the game. It seems that every time we play the cats we beat them except we lose. They just score easier. Good to see the Hawks starting to score easier.

Ahhh you don't know me well enough Miner. Coming on to our board and getting defensive because we have a high opinion of our players is ridiculous behaviour. They can keep a dominating player, I will have a consistent team over that any day.

Focussing on the positives for a moment, or the positive - last night, after having his pants pulled down, we had a bloke who could use his superior height to clunk some big ones across the centre and make good decisions to transition the team forward.

We haven't had that since Everitt or Salmon.

So well done Max Bailey, by adding more strings to your bow you are making this side more dangerous and unpredictable.

This gets back to having open forward lines because the ball aint there.

Great effort by the boys tonight. Usual suspects in Rough, Hodge, Bud, Mitch, all doing a good job tonight.

I was glad to see Savage play a real good game last night. He was desperate and did some real good work and was creative and applied great pressure. It has been hard for him to crack into the squad this year so fantastic effort and hopefully his form will bring out even better performances for the rest of the season.

Well done Shane Savage.

not sure what Hills role in the side is. seemed to be where the ball was a lot but didnt go to the contest and didnt get used outside.

when he did get the ball he tried to do too much and butchered it a bit.....i think there's an expectation that he creates a scoring opportunity every time he touches it and maybe he's trying to live up to the hype.

We won. I like that.

I don't like that Franklin can be man-handled continuously without any repercussion.

And it happens every ******* week.
Its so he can explode when he gets to GWS when they suddenly start getting paid

Agreed, there were times dare I say it that he looked almost silky :)
The longer the game went the better he got against nic nat - blocked his run, got in front and on a few occasions won the tap - his game last night was great
His confidence is just growing and growing
