Autopsy Round 14, 2023: Richmond v St.Kilda

Not too upset about the loss tbh, thought we played with genuine heart for most of the game. A few dumb errors cost us dearly.

Crouch was fantastic, Sharman was brilliant when he came in (so many spoils!) and Butler is back to his 2020 self.

Heart and effort were definitely there.
It was a slog.
Don’t have the class right now, especially in the midfield, and playing Steele and Wood clearly not over their injuries doesn’t help.

Disappointed but not devastated.

I don't know how true it is but we don't seem to be a team that learns much from our losses. Pretty sure we will see the same again, and the Hawks loss and the Crows loss. Every game counts for the kids though.
Between Enright, Harvey, Hayes and Lyon I'm sure nothing is going unnoticed or unlearned. I've got a fair bit of faith in that group.

Whatever we BigFooty types are seeing, they're probably watching over and again on review.
Would love to be a fly on the wall in the coaches box and get their real thoughts on it all when the cameras aren't rolling.

He was solid but Richmond had 31 clearances between Bolton, Prestia, Taranto, Martin & Cotchin. We were slaughtered out of stoppages.
That is a bloody high quality midfield to be fair, with Nank also a big brute. With ours hugely handicapped atm we were always likely to be up against it in there.

We’re not going to trouble really good sides consistently until we significantly improve our midfield and/or get back to full strength and form in there.

Neither of which are particularly likely to happen this year.

Kudos to McQualter he has turned Richmond around in 3 weeks and actually got the better of RTB in the box tonight.

Some positives were the games of NWM, Ross, Crouch, Hill, Butler and Wilkie. The other positive on our current trajectory of W, L, W, L, W, L we will win next week!

Absolute shockers had by Howlers Howard, Never won a Battle, Alloy or Steele, Gresham the Hamster, Pecker Woods, O-wen-its wet I go missing, and Ross the loss to Mini the Boss!:p:p:p

But seriously until we find some genuine midfield talent we are going nowhere. I would rather not play finals and get some decent draft picks and attack another draft. I think we have got ahead of ourselves as far as the list is concerned, there is nothing in the VFL and we still have a 1/3 of the side who are injury prone hacks. This side doesn't deserve to be playing finals with their lack of talent and consistency.
I’m similar
Yes finals is nice we’ve had a nice draw and we feel good about ourselves (till we get a tougher draw next year that exposes where we really are…) I think another deep drink from the draft we’ll with some astute Toce selections is what we need… paying big $ for FA sugar hits is not where we are really in my view. We’re flaky for a reason…

Very good chance of going 1 & 3 over the next 4 rounds
Crouch is literally carrying the midfield, and as fantastic as he is he’s not a superstar.
Defenders have dropped off massively also with the exception of Sinclair. Dougal, Battle, even Wilkie to a lesser extent have been very average.
So disappointed in our “leaders”.

There'll be some major regrets from the game.
How did we go from being 4 goals up to being 2 goals down at quarter time? Hold onto that lead when the rain comes and we win the game, absolutely shocking period of football from our boys that ultimately cost us the game.
How did we make so many terrible defensive errors? At least 3 goals seemed to come from atrocious skill errors, two from Dougal alone. In these tight games you just can't afford it.
How did we kick three kicks at goal in the last quarter and not even score a single behind? Frankly bizarre.
How does Jack Steele look so terrible in a wet weather game that suits him to a T? We'd genuinely have been better with Bytel and that's saying something.
I guess there were positives from the game but really it's a bloody disappointing loss, hopefully it stings us into action but coming up against Brisbane's midfield next week has me worried.
Steele needs to take a break and get right , he played on Taranto today and was killed , to me it cost us the game along with Howards skill errors, there were other factors as well but to me these were the standout problems.
As you say Bytel would of performed better than Steele today

Lol, windy came in to do a defensive job and limit their mids and we were absolutely creamed through the midfield.
I hope he learnt a lot tonight, he was far from our worst.
Think he played on Bolton who had little influence compared to his recent form.

I would be turning your focus to our experienced mids Steele (carrying an injury) & Ross (Crouch was working hard again).

Really need to consider giving Steele a rest and giving Bytel a run of games when he is good to go to see whether he is up to it or not.

I know Steele is injured so gets a little out
But you’re right Steele, Ross Howard have been poor with leadership
Love Wilkie but he had a fumble on the goal line and kicked to the man on the mark both resulting in goals
We are mentally weak when we have any expectation on us

Was listed as 3-5 weeks then might need a game at Sandy for fitness.

Hopefully DMac plays VFL next week.
Oh dear. We could use him right now through the midfield.
He just can’t take a trick.
Meantime our backline looking vulnerable right now coming up against Hipwood and Daniher 😱

We’re the perfect combination of sexy and cute dumb and inept lol

Also how many times has Marshall had a chance to goal in must win games and always misses to the right

Another that can’t grab that big moment

His kicking has really gone backwards. I never feel confident when he’s lining up up. Used to be better.
