Autopsy Round 14, 2023: Richmond v St.Kilda

Coaches loss that one tonight for mine. Let the Tiges own their defensive 50 for way too long. Weren't able to manage our players to stop yet another avalanche of goals in a quarter after a great start.
Can't read a weather map too apparently as this showed what was coming.

There are aspects where I'd like to see improvement from recent years and not sure that I am. Perhaps though that ceiling we've being head butting for the past 5 years is the limit for a lot of this group and we just have to have fingers crossed that the coaching development of the 6 to 7 kids drafted in the past 2 years will be better than whar the 26 year old plus group got as there seems to be good talent there.

Steele needs to take a break and get right , he played on Taranto today and was killed , to me it cost us the game along with Howards skill errors, there were other factors as well but to me these were the standout problems.
As you say Bytel would of performed better than Steele today

Taranto has been killing it most weeks.

Cotchin, Martin, and Bolton probably the difference this week.

Also how many times has Marshall had a chance to goal in must win games and always misses to the right

Another that can’t grab that big moment
Yeah why can't that be fixed? He's done it for years. No slice or hook just dead centre of the point posts to the right. There must be an alignment issue that someone could help him sort out surely.

Think he played on Bolton who had little influence compared to his recent form.

I would be turning your focus to our experienced mids Steele (carrying an injury) & Ross (Crouch was working hard again).

Really need to consider giving Steele a rest and giving Bytel a run of games when he is good to go to see whether he is up to it or not.
Bolton had 7 clearances, 6 score involvements and kicked 3 goals, that's the difference in the game at the end of the day.

Like I said earlier, I thought Windhager was good but we were slaughtered through the mid. Tough gig coming in to play on Bolton for your first full game in a couple of months.

Not sure why people get so upset about a simple counterpoint, not dissing Marcus at all.

Missed the game , looking at stats.

Inside 50's / Score involvements.

Martin 8/8
Seb Ross 7/4
Graham 7/4
Gresham 6/3
Hill 6/3
Cotchin 5/7
Wood 4/2
Windhager 4/1
Taranto 4/4
Jack Ross 4/3
Prestia 4/1
Phillipou 4/3
Crouch 4/4
Short 3/2
McIntosh 3/4
Clarke 3/1
Bolton 3/6
Battle 3/1
Baker 3/8
Wilkie 2/2

Sounds like Cotchin had a massive game for his 300th, good on him i suppose.
Stats are just numbers.
5 out of Seb's 7 inside 50s nearly took out a light tower.

Tigers have been playing footy above their ladder position since Hardwick left, anyone who can't see that is blind.

Had a quality crack, clawed our way back in the wet to get within striking distance. Shame we couldn't convert a few more.

Howard would want to be careful, I've defended him but he was atrocious tonight. Could hardly hit a 5 meter handball.

Dougal howard one of the least intelligent players ever .. get rid of him and gresham
Tired, delirious or playing around with Stillnox thinking they are a stimulant?

Have to agree with Parkysp that one was lost in the coach's box. I'm getting increasingly dismayed at the lack if offensive method and questioning how much RTB has learned in his time away.

Clearly we need some pace though, teams with pace around the ball are always carving us up.

I'm glad Doogs had his wings clipped tonight. I don't hate on the guy he tries his guts out and has the right ideas but fmd he can't execute them. He needs a solid talking to about his actual abilities and some hard rules to follow.
Stoked with Sharman's input though. He's a very smart player and l hope he gets more opportunities.

Props to Windy too. He'll be a good player.

I like Gresham as a smart, dangerous small forward (not sure there is room for Butler, Higgins & Gresham all forward?).

He is certainly evasive, but not overly quick & his disposal by foot is poor, rarely handballs or applies tackle pressure- just don’t think he is a quality midfielder and never will be. Maybe just an occasional centre square appearance to mix it up.

I don’t believe Cordy is any saviour but possibly a like for like just if Howard is super out of form?

Had a crack. Some dumb errors in wet conditions (led by Dooogs) but did well to fight our way back into it. Thought Butler was huge tonight. Need to drop Steele for Bytel if he isn’t 100%, really struggling atm.
It’s TOO late to drop Steele. That would be admitting we’ve made a mistake for like 5 weeks. Club won’t want to lose face so they’ll persist til he either completely breaks down to comes good
