Was Armstrong really as bad as most make out? He wasn't the worst on the w'end and its not like we have a healthy list to choose from.

He was easily the worst. I struggle to think of one bit of decent play he was involved in. His only rival would be Grundy, but despite all the mistakes Reg actually acquitted himself ok in a few passages.

Don't bother. The groupthink has decided he's hopeless, so if he's playing and we lose, he's the chosen sacrifice.

Reading this board after a loss makes me sad.

Mate he was very ordinary and has virtually been going backwards with every senior game. I understand not wanting to throw every player under the bus after a loss, but nor is every player a star, or up to AFL standard. The only reason why Armstrong would deserve to keep his place is a lack of a suitable replacement, but on present form, he can't be part of our long term plans. If he comes good, it's a bonus.

so Jetts and Reid are a no. Everitt a maybe. Hmm...I would say if fit Everitt in for goodes , and no other changes. Armstrong was ordinary, but he wasn't alone, so he will get another chance. . If Eviritt doesn't come up, then Lamb starts and perhaps Towers as sub for a little bit of flexibility. After playing forward a bit and his back line work, he can fill a few roles or Jack..actually I rekon Jack would be a better in to start. I remember saying to my mates while watching that we looked slow, so maybe he starts? Membrey doesn't seem suited for a sub role, kinda like Morton in that way. X.Richards, well, no.

For me it's not that he's horrendous, it's that he has the skills to be really damaging and seems to make a conscious effort not to do so. It's worse when coupled with his softness. I'm not expecting him to win clearances or smash backs, but some of the arm flailing attempts at tackles that he's done repeatedly don't help his cause. How does a defender get brushed by Neade?

The game Freo brang surprised the whole team, by far it didn't suit him but he had a crack. He had a better game than Smith, Bolton, White, in fact stat wise he was pretty much even with Hanners only Armstrong had a much higher disposal eff. He also only had 60%TOG. I think people have been way to harsh singling him out, that's not to say he is beyond criticism but there aren't too many others banging down the door to take his spot.

Sure he wasn't great. But by what measure you judging his game? Statistically he wasn't our worst. So i'm curious why, specifically, he's getting pilloried here. And none of this "deer in the headlights" nonsense. That's totally subjective, and from the game i watched, has no basis in fact.

Armstrong didn't have Kane Cornes following him all game.

I'm judging it according to the subjective deer in the headlight nonsense. I cannot recall a single useful, effective disposal that put the ball in a better position than it was when he received it. The easiest chance he had to do it, with plenty of time and space, he kicked it out on the full.
Every time he gets the footy, he seems to want to get rid if it as soon as possible, and make it someone else's problem. And his defensive work is virtually non-existent, and certainly never really effective. How many of his three tackles killed the ball or led to a turnover?

If he's playing on the HBF, he needs to either shut down his opponent (Mattner) or set up play (Malceski). Ideally, he could try to do both (Shaw). But he does neither. So why is he there?

He had a great couple of games at the beginning of his time with us, but has rarely displayed those qualities since.

Armstrong isn't a brownlow favourite or probably not even in our best 22 at the moment some posters need to take a reality check.

Exactly why he should be dropped this week, even with all our injuries, he's a liability.

One player that is not really being mentioned much this year is Jude Bolton. He really should have retired last year as he is a shadow of his former self. The old Jude Bolton would have played a lot better in those conditions against Port.

He didn't offer a lot, but it wasn't really clear what he was meant to be doing. Seems to have been pulled out if the clearances, but didn't seem to be tagging any HBF either

Well it has been 3 weeks so far so I would say whatever is wrong is worse than we first thought.

Someone needs to bring out the translation guide for Swans injury statements.....rested = minimum 4 weeks, minor injury = 6-8 weeks, pulled muscle of any kind - potential season ending......God knows what Goodesy has but I did hear minor, so we may not see him until Finals.

Jetta cant just be shin soreness come on

Armstrong needs to go, but I hate him with a passion so may be a tad biased. Would like Everitt back too, why was he even dropped anyway? Reid will come in for Goodes if fit.

Huge game now, can't afford to let it slip.

You "hate" a Swans player "with a passion"??? Fck, mate, they're just footballers ... and he's one of ours. I don't understand that at all ...
