Can you please give us a run down on how western bulldogs players went?

Sweet and Gardner went off injured. Sweet in the third, looked a bit ginger, thought he might come back on but he never did. Gardner in the last, was really struggling to put weight on his right leg, hopefully not an
acl

Could only see half the play from where I was sitting but from what I did see:

- Vandermeer and Lynch seemed to bounce between forward and back with Vandermeer leaning more forward. Both very similar to Richards so might be to put some pressure on Ed for that position. Both just alright.

- Roberts and Lewie Young didn’t have great games. Roberts thrown forward and back, Young with no excuse.

- Morris his usual self, led by example. Lachie Young was defending everything that came near him as well

- Sweet hasn’t got a great tank. Any injury setback won’t help but he needs to work on that before he’s anywhere near a game

- Gardner moved between full back and ruck. Some nice marks but disposal was ordinary.

- Dale the best kick in the side but tries to handball is too often and puts his teammates under pressure. Played mostly inside so following the Lipinski trail

- Wallis tackling hard all day, even when the game was over. Split between mid and forward. Will be back soon

- West player mostly forward and looked a little lost. Also needs to work on his kicking a bit more. Probably better mid depth than small forward

- Hayes was good without ever doing anything outstanding. Probably our most consistent today

- Cavarra played wing/forward. Tackled well and a clean kick, did the team thing and passed instead of going for goal.

-Porter had a shot at goal from 30 out that went out on the full. The rest of his day was pretty similar to that.

- Khamis does a lot right but needs to dispose of it quicker. Once he does that and puts on some size he might be very impressive

- Jong ran hard, put his body on the line, but ball use wasn’t great. Just a regular Jong game.

Morris back ASAP. Wallis next in line. La Young and Cavarra putting their hand up as well.

It was a perfect day for football. So, there, I'll start my comments with a nice cliche.
There was a two goal wind blowing to Mt Mistake but it didn't have a huge influence on the game. This team is very well-coached. It prides itself on maintaining maximum pressure on the opposition with manic tackling and moving the ball quickly to give the forwards a chance. To beat the top team by nearly 10 goals was a great performance. There were a few standouts but really this was a team effort from start to finish.
Players:
Dale: stood out for his class in getting and disposing of the ball. Got very much involved for 4 quarters. If we give him away for handful of beans (as some people on this forum have suggested) we have rocks in our head.
West: the human tackling machine (only a paltry 6 today): was great for the first 3 quarters and a bit quieter in the last. He's coming along very nicely as a mid/forward and should be given a couple of games before season's end.
Sweet: shaded the Tigers' rucks and was looking very promising around the ground when he was struck down with an injury in a marking contest. Limped off with assistance and took no further part. Kicked a great goal in the 1st against a slight breeze.
Van der Meer: A solid game without being outstanding. Provided a link in several chains. Keep safe.
The Klingon: typical Morris game, intercepted very well and told his back half what to do and where to go. Who knows, we may yet see him again in the seniors.
Lew Young: played OK, punched the ball away from opponents but not marking as well as previously. I would love the selectors to pick him for a couple of games this season but I think I understand why they're not. Keep safe.
Lach Young: reasonably quiet but was part of a very effective back six.
Cavarra: OK, no goals but contributed to a couple. Can't see promotion in the near future.
Gardner: Ok, nothing special, got several hitouts when he had to be shifted to the ruck when Sweet went down. Suffered a serious injury later in the game, couldn't tell whether knee or ankle but he was in a lot of pain.
Lynch: much better effort from him today, was more physical than previous and got involved in the packs a bit more as well as outside.
Wallis: 22 disposals and 6 tackles, a very good return from injury. Not sure that he will be promoted automatically next week however.
Jong: looked very rusty in the 1st half, turned the ball over a few times and was typical 'Jongy'. Still, I suspect he's coming from a long way back so any contribution is encouraging. Got more involved in the second half with some nice marks and became "last ruckman standing" in the last quarter.

A word on Anthony Scott: had we not been desperate for a tall in the mid-season draft then this player would have been worth a chance at the big time. He's a very smart footballer and when he gets near goal he usually slots them. Kicked 4 and was impressive.
Cheers, a nice day in the sun at VUWO.

Missed a few listed players above:
Roberts: achieved the ultimate with his Premiership medallion but now his career is winding down. Great clubman and does some things well like punching the ball away from opponents but not robust enough and beaten a bit too often.
Hayes: a return to his best form today with 26 disposals and a nice goal. No idea if he will gain another promotion but he has another year to go so never say never.
Khamis: hard to get a fix on him. He's a very solid mark and tackles well but he really does have 'L' plates on. His lack of pace gets him into trouble sometimes and this may be a drawback going forward. Still a young'un.

Yeah Roberts deserves credit for not towelling it in. Always looks happy at club events and tries hard but he’s never going to be the player Bevo wants (ie an offensive weapon) and to be honest can lose some one on ones horrifically in the firsts.

Kept his head up which is great and hope he keeps a strong connection with the club.

They all contributed to the team performance but none were standouts except for Scott as mentioned above.
A small, young fella named Boyd kicked 3 goals - got plenty of cheers from mates/family? in the grandstand. He was the sub and I know absolutely nothing about him???? Nash did his usual hard-at-it stuff in the packs and was a good contributor. Viojo-Rainbow does some very creative things with the ball and Drummond was ok with 13 Disp and 6 tackles.
