It’s odd, isn’t it. I don’t recall Harvey ever playing as a specialist forward.
Its not so relevant to be honest, the game has evolved well past anytime the coaches played with the exception of maybe 1. They would all be students of the current game, just sometimes, someone just isn't a great coach

There was a time when Gold Coast fans were underwhelmed with Ben King. Now he is pushing Coleman. Surely it is a confidence thing. Yep, has the world on his shoulders now. Nowhere to hide, tough place to be.

Next week will probably be Brad Hill's 100th game as a Saint. Hope the club makes it an occasion, because after a slow start I think he's been great for the club, Lyon is getting the best out of him that's for sure.
Has he got boys? 😉

I've got a theory that those taken as Rookies after not making it in the draft, are a lot more appreciative of being an AFL player.
Those taken early in the draft are precious little millennials who think that they should just get a pay rise every contract , and hugs, and play as shit as they like.
You always appreciate something you really have to work for.
Milney, Roma, Wilkie, even Gears, the poster boys for it.
Getting the best out of themselves.

Get off it.
What did Malthouse play as?
What did Clarkson play as?
What did the Scott twins play as ( thugs )?
What has Harvey been doing for over a decade?

Surely its time we get a genuine legend key forward to come in part time and work with Max's craft? Still can't believe we rejected Lloyd, what a stinker of a decision. Get Derm or Dunstall in, ANYONE to screw the kid's head in

We don't need a messiah for our messiah.

We need:
1. Our fulltime forward line coach to have the whole forward line operating more cohesively- like enright has our backline working as a single unit; and
2. a midfield that has players FAR better than all of dow, windy, clark current output.

Fix those things and you fix max.

Get Max King out of the goal square where he is double teamed and triple team every time he goes near the ball.

Move him up the ground. To high half forward. Let him play with more freedom where he can use his athleticism.

It’s possible the lad is really doubting himself. The coach hinted as much post-match and he did do so quite gently. I actually felt a little sad hearing it. We don’t always know what these athletes go through.

Max has endured a lot with several serious injuries and the responsibility of being the focus of the forward line since he started.

He’s human. Sometimes the hardest thing to do is to show faith and offer support.

I hope we do that, while also acknowledging he was very poor today.

I was disappointed with the performance of Steele. In a match that we lost by 2 points, the difference was Horne-Francis. He smashed us through the middle then ran on to help out in attack and defence. He was Steele's direct opponent but Steele was unable to match Horne-Francis' speed or stamina and while Steele performed quite well at times, he didn't hurt Port anywhere near as much as Horne-Francis hurt us.

He looks to be visibly hobbled to me.
Has no explosive power- plus he looks to be kicking with way less than full extension- ie with his knee bent.

Chalk and cheese from the first month of the year where he looked powerful and had penetration in his kicking

Definitely agree they need to change King's role. It's just not working on a number of levels for him and the team. On a night with a lot of lowlights, giving away that free kick for the petulant late hit after a nothing performance in the preceding contest was to me the most damning. Should've been dragged right then and there.

King looks really depressed to he honest. See him around Hampton Street regularly, just doesn't look like an upbeat happy person.

Looks like the weight of the world is on his shoulders. Sad really, and I have empathy for him if he is going through any mental health battles. Hopefully I am wrong.

As a footballer, he is never going to amount to much I am afraid. He is a Rhys Stanley type IMO. Has some natural gifts you think would make them a gun, but just not a natural footballer.

Staggering how weak he is in the contest. Not getting the ball is one thing, but the amount of times he let's his opponent mark is frightening. I would be shocked if he isn't the worst full forward in the comp when it comes to the opposition marking it in a contest.

I would put him in the reserves for the rest of the year and see if he can learn some ruck skills. Needs to put on 6-8kg of pure muscle in the off season.

Need to somehow take the pressure of him. It's obvious he is not a star and will never be one. Expectations must change. However, needs to be careful he doesn't fade away into obscurity completely. Can still carve out a decent career if he is up for the hard work.
His posture needs to be more like Joe Daniher and less like Dustin Fletcher for a start. He needs to get bust, his career is falling away. Get some fire in that belly and do whatever it takes to be The King of Kings.

Nice statement , totally lacking in evidence.
When has Clark been less fit?

Dow has no cardiovascular fitness, but i'm not seeing him do great stuff even at the start of the game.
He was a dud at Carlton and we bought the dud.
SOS should be sacked for knowing what he was and still getting him.
Interesting view SS. Both players struggled to get on park this year though. I really liked what I saw from them when they got back. Time will tell and we'll see how they go for the rest of the year but output is down since they got going again.

At last sense!
The Chicken Little brigade alive n well !!
We were smashed out of the middle all day - we are effectively playing with THE worst midfield in the comp
Lost by 2 points
Our defence is rock solid
HB line is elite - NAS/Sincs both hard to stop at once
Marshall forward worked
Yes we need to free King up, get him up the ground but time to experiment now
I’d give Wilson a spell - Hastie/Garcia/Pou another taste
Like to see Heath this year too
That's all well and good but Port were ripe for the picking and we lacked the skill to get it done.

If we don't find a way to improve our midfield then we are stuffed. We basically got beaten by three players yesterday.

I am a country member and used up my first game membership yesterday. Well i was very pissed off with a few things.
1. The umpires they are cheats honestly unbelievably
2 Why did we recruit Dow done nothing has done nothing, Henry at least tried
3 Max King what a sook is he injured or what seemed to be disinterested in playing doesnt try cracks it when things dont go his way Need to trade him USELESS he should hand back his match payments

Wont be coming back again this yr sorry

The captain and Max don’t look like they want to be there- the body language is ordinary. Disappointed that too many Saints got beaten in one on one contests, and were slow to recover when the ball hit the ground. Looks like Lyon is just stuffing around with the playing list and it doesn’t make for good football- they all look like they don’t know what they are supposed to do.

Heading down from Sydney to watch the game this week. Spewing we are actually playing Sydney. Entire family will be there, over 20 of us. I just hope we get there before the game starts so that we can sing the song. And kick the first goal so we can cheer something. After that it’s all just bonus…

It's all confidence for Higgins. If he gets the first then he'll slot them from anywhere.
That kind of sucks though, doesn't it?

Basically means he doesn't trust his technique.

I was bemused that he started with the drop punt on a tight angle (on the wrong side, mind you), but finished with a snap from pretty much in front.

If he misses one, maybe he should skip the huddle or half time break and take shots to restore confidence. Is that allowed?

Maxy don’t look like he’s in a good space.
I’d be giving him the rest of the season off to get his knees and shoulders right and more importantly work on his head space and work on his positional play.
Get him in the coaches box on game days.
Turn him around for 25.
