Play Russian Roulette often enough, you’re gonna end up dead.

We can’t keep giving up big leads and expecting to be able to click our fingers and reel them in.

We are especially poor in the games when we go in as favourites. We need to become ruthless in burying the dudes below us on the ladder but instead we give everyone a chance.

We are showing exactly how hard it is to go back to back. You only need to drop 1-2%

Disappointing game. Why we cant bring the last quarter intensity to the start of the game is just a complete mystery.

Frampton obviously had a poor game, but I don't get get why some are really sticking the boots in. he's been pretty good this year. And when you concede 68 inside 50s, a player as good as King is going to get on the end of some.

The midfield, other than Nick, was the issue. Crisp had a shocker, Pendles looked a bit under done, and Sullivan looks like he needs a spell. Markov was also pretty ordinary.

Up forward, I thought Bobby had a shocker, and HH was virtually unsighted. McCreery might be lucky he got injured, it will save dropping him. I'm a Beau fan, but I'm running out of patience. Richards was better than the three of them when he came on.

Cameron always struggles against ruckmen like Witts, now we see how important Cox actually is.

Not much more one can say about Nick. It seems that every week, he amazes us. That goal in the last was just incredible, as was his pass to Howe.

Huge game now next week. Hopefully Maynard & Noble are OK to play. Didn't watch the 2nds, but it doesn't sound like anyone really put their hand up.

I dont disagree that he’s been poor

The funny part is, when you watch on TV it actually hids a lot of how bad he can actually be

At the ground you see it all. You see him in no man’s land, you see him jogging back into defence rather than run

But again, as poor as he’s been this season, even I’ll admit he wasn’t to blame for

He’s definitely not the only one, but do you have the same expectation for most of the team?

Never seen Fly so frustrated as he did in his press conference. He doesn’t show much but I think he’s had enough of the pies playing one quarter of a game, just like the rest of us.

Anyone hear what injuries McCreery, Noble and Maynard suffered?

Noble out concussion protocols, McCreery likely out calf strain and Maynard they’re not saying

Big month or so coming up, with games against Bombers, Cats, Blues and Swans.

On tonight’s form, we’re underdogs in all of those.

Gold Coast haven’t lost at home. this was not a game to win easily

Unfortunately Frampton is probably not the crack key defender that we like to imagine him to be. He was well beaten by both King and Lukosius tonight. Moore seemed to trail his opponent all night. Our smaller defenders were also underwhelming. Although I am sure there is much more to the loss than our defence being beaten by better opposition.

I’m not sure anyone imagined Frampton was a “crack defender”. He’s a role player.

Gold Coast has a better % than us and have won one less game. They have won every home game this season. We lost by 11 points.

The competition is so even this year.

Those saying we wont make top four or top eight have no idea. Its impossible to pick. Our best is still very good.

We can't win every week. Its disappointing when we lose but we will lose. Its inevitable this year. We just need to win enough to qualify.

I am as bitterly disappointed as anyone that we lost this evening.
However, I see much that is positive in the dark clouds of defeat
a) Pendles, JDG, Checkers were returning after long layoffs. this game warms them up. Next week...watch out Essendon. The have blown off the cobwebs and are ready to go full bore.
b) Despite being 4 goals down at 3/4 time, and then losing both JFN and Bruzza to injury in the final quarter, came close to stealing an impossible victory. This team has the mental power of a steel furnace. Forged in the fire of adversity, will never accept defeat.
c) JoeR confirms that he takes this place in the team as our other small forward in the top 22.
d) Would have won tonight with Mason Cox. This game clearly shows how important his return will be.
e) Defence needs further consideration. King was able to run riot. To a significant extent, due to the fact that our midfield (with JDG and Pendles perhaps only 70% capacity after their extended time out) was not operating at its full capacity. However, perhaps we also need to consider personnel: should Dean have played, in retrospect, given that King was playing for them?
TBH, this game is a minor setback in my mind.
Yes 4 points in a tight competition is bitter to lose.
But we will come out rampaging next week, drawing the lessons from tonight, playing on the G, and Pendles/JDG/Checkers all the better for their first game back.

Disappointing result, but it's not a catastrophe.

I was happy with the inclusions we had during the week, but I do wonder whether having five changes unsettled the team more than we anticipated. Essentially, this was the match needed for the likes of Pendles and Checkers to blow out the cobwebs. De Goey had an immediate impact which is a great sign.

The last quarter comeback was admirable, so that deserves to be acknowledged. It shows our self-belief and fight is still as strong as ever. Have to give credit to Gold Coast for regaining their composure and winning the match after we threw everything at them.

Bad news on the injury front with Noble and McCreery being ruled out for next week, and Maynard had a knee issue as well so touchwood he'll be fine.

Onto next week now.

He’s definitely not the only one, but do you have the same expectation for most of the team?

No. Like I said before, I have Frampton a mulligan because he’s been great all season back there

Without Murphy there Moore needs to be the leader that holds it all together and he’s really not doing that

Exactly. The over reaction has been insane. As per usual.

He’s not playing as well as last year I’m not claiming that.

He’s not losing one on one’s anyway, or hardly any. He didn’t tonight - if you can find them then let me know.

What you are saying about beating a player one on one regardless of the pressure upfield is unrealistic. Every single defender in the league Can’t live up to that.

He’s averaging 0.5 contested losses a game for this year.

Genuinely curious for answers but is this going to be our “brand” of football now forever?
Constantly outmarked. The constant “late quarter comeback” BS.

At what point is the club going to take a hard look at itself as to why that’s not really an acceptable standard. It’s not a one off - it’s a repeatable exercise of playing like amateurs for the majority of the match and then suddenly showing up in the last quarter.

Pies deserved to lose and clearly nothing so far has served as a wake up call. The “well needed break” clearly also did nothing.

Kangas. Last in the comp. Thumped us and we stole a win.
GC. 2nd last in the comp. Thumped us all night.

So again - has this become our brand? Because it’s not cool with me. Play properly and with purpose from minute one. Not the last quarter.

Issue is not so much Moore himself, but the synergy that needs to be established between him and Frampton or Dean. And then the other issue we have is that with Cox out, this disturbs the back half synergy (and also the forward half synergy). I really think that the absence of Cox has been underestimated in terms of our structure both in F50 and in defence.
I think we will need to play Dean next week in the 22 so that Frampers can play more freely as second ruck.

Gold Coast 2nd last? They haven’t lost at home.. I say again, nobody has beaten Gold Coast AT HOME

Yeah fair call. None the less at least half of what I said remains accurate.

The whole “we only play for real in the last quarter” is getting old. It’s not to a professional standard. It’s a record on repeat that nobody seems to have questioned enough.
