They lost to a team they beat earlier in the season and to a team that got flogged by us and Sydney in the two weeks prior.

There is no way you are going to convince that we are better off without a key defender and that it’s all to do with how you let the opposition transition rather than personnel in your defence, both are obviously important but the reality is, the opposition are going to get the ball inside 50, it’s how you defend them when they do.

We won all the key areas against the Eagles, yet we lost the match, mainly because we couldn’t stop Kennedy who kicked his highest goal tally for about 3 years.

Eagles kicked unusually accurately. They also had almost 0 pressure on their i50s. A KPD wouldn't fix that.

Kick straight, we win. Turnover the ball less, we win. Defend the transition, we win.

A KPD was a long way down the list of reasons we lost.

They were accurate because that’s what Kennedy is, he kicked 5 straight…. anyway we can argue til the cows come home, we are a better team with the extra key defender in it, no one will convince me otherwise.

No, they were unusually accurate team-wide. 10.1 at one point of the game from set shots.

It's a thing. Like us against Sydney.

They ended up kicking 16.11 it’s hardly off the charts level of accuracy like Collingwood on ANZAC day.

A KPD doesn't make us kick straight, nor do they make them kick badly. A KPD is a fair way down the list of reasons we lost.

An extra KPD changes the whole structure of our defence, maybe Kennedy and Darling don’t have 9 shots on goal, maybe it allows Ridley and Kelly to play different roles, it was a mistake going in and proved so at the final siren, as I’ve said numerous times, you won’t convince me otherwise, I know what I saw.

You should try looking outside the D50 sometime then, there was a hell of a lot more to see.

Of course there is, footy doesn’t come down to any one particular element, but being able to adequately defend against the oppositions key forwards is certainly a decent part of the puzzle.

Do you really like seeing Jake Kelly one on one with Jack Darling at the top of the square? Or Josh Kennedy run around the front of a pack and take an uncontested mark because there was no one to put body on him and check his run?

The Jake Kelly who's about 2cm shorter than Darling? or Laverde who's the same size as Darling?

It's not as though we weren't playing Defenders. Ridley, Laverde and Kelly are all >190cm. If no one has body on Kennedy, it's not a height thing. Kennedy is also 'only' 196cm. He's not an ultra-tall KPF.

We allowed multiple unpressured kicks into their forwards. No defender can defend that. We turned over the ball horribly through the middle of the ground multiple times. We let them transition from our F50 to D50 unpressured multiple times.

BZT is slower than Laverde, so if Laverde is getting burned on a lead, so will BZT.

Maybe Kelly plays on one of Cripps or Rioli who kicked 3 goals each if we had another option to play on the talls….

Like I said pal, you are wasting your time trying to convince me we don’t need an extra KPD, give up.

Where did I say we drop a KPD or even say we do not need one . Have only ever said it was not the total reason we lost to the Eagles and we beat the Saint’s by playing good hard pressure footy and stopped any easy transitions allowing our undersized defence a chance . We where not lucky against the Saint’s. we played good footy and won.
BZK would not have held Kennedy while we allowed easy transition.
I am not saying drop a defender. . I am saying play 8 which we have done before.

In: McGrath
Out: Parish (inj)

That would seem to be the only change at this point.

In: McGrath, Ham, Phillips, Waterman.

No outs yet, Parish named.

Rutten should be sacked for his instance of calling up Ham every other week.
