We lose this and we're done for the year.

tbh i think we're done anyways but our % is keeping us in it.

We can never beat these campaigners. Their midfield always smashes us. Won't help if Gianfagna decides to line up for the dogs as well.

didn't we beat them last year

keep the same 22. Can make calls for a few of players to be dropped but I don't think it'll make much difference.

I would play Clarke, we need a defensive forward against the zillion WB HB's especially Daniel.

I've been waiting all season for the swans to finally break through and stake our claim as a genuine premiership threat, but we once again failed that test against essendon.

Sadly, I think this match against the dogs will see us break out in the opposite direction where we'll be fighting for top 8 survival.

I've realised that were not a genuine contender and are at least 1-2 years off becoming a more consistent team.

In saying that, I was almost certain we'd take care of port, so I'm happy to be wrong again (Is that how karma works? 😉).

Apologies for the pessimism but this season has burnt me one too many times.

We are weirdly more likely to beat the better sides anyway who on earth knows why but you can only laugh

How disappointing has our senior core been this year? Mills the best of the lot but even he's been kinda inconsistent.

We just aren't getting enough from any of them. Buddy, when his presence isn't stuffing up our forward structure (not his fault), too often misses goals he needs to kick (which is his fault.) Parker's not close to elite. Rampe, besides the odd turn-the-clock-back performance, has one foot out to pasture. Heeney is either amazing or awful and has seemingly lost anything resembling a middle ground. Lloyd & Cunningham frustrate more than they impress. Hickey has barely managed to string two decent games together all year. Papley has seemingly bought into his own hype, bringing more "energy" than actual ability. Florent & Hayward are the same as they've been their whole careers. Reid is the only one whose actually improved, and even then it's not like he's gone to an elite level in any way (which isn't his fault - he's done his best.)

So yeah we needed all of the above to be better than they've been this year, especially after losing two very good and very consistent senior players in Hewett & Dawson. They've failed to do so, so I'm pissed.

Watching for the youngsters for the rest of this season, hoping to see plenty of promising signs for the future, because we ain't doing shit in September if we make it.

If Logan is dropped, then it should be Amartey or Ladhams in. Have seen a few mentions of McLean, which wouldn't surprise me as he has had 1 good game in a row at reserves level (and like a few others, that might be all it takes). Some calls for Reid to be dropped, but don't see that happening after he at least kicked a couple.

E.g. Amartey has kicked 20 goals in his last 6 outings since a couple of interrupted games with injury. Yeah McLean kicked 4 on the weekend, but only 6 goals in 4 games before that, since coming back to reserves. That and Amartey generally does more in the ruck at either level.

I kind of agree with the idea of just making them front up again. Like if the team we put out on the weekend, which if everyone is in form, is only 1 or 2 players different from our best 22, cannot perform, then we're not challenging this year anyway.

But having said that, form should matter. If we're not using Campbell and Logan effectively, may as well play them in better positions at reserves level and build confidence there. I don't really think Amartey would do more than Logan, but form should be rewarded. Although given Joel had an off week, maybe it'll be Ladhams back in. For Campbell, it's got to be Cunningham in. Hopefully the reserves run has helped him refresh, given him some extra motivation. 35 touches and 15 marks isn't bad and just goes to show how established seniors players in questionable form, will dominate at that level (so on the flipside players that dominate at that level won't necessarily do better than established senior players in questionable form). I'm not sure where another statement should be made, but I'd be ok with Clarke getting back in to play on Dale since he probably shouldn't have been dropped. Or give Hayward that assignment.

Calls for Papley to be dropped are overreactions. He does need to be told to pull his head in, play for the team. But unlike some others, he was at least in the game, making and (should have been) providing opportunities. Others missed gettable shots too, hardly all on Papley.

Do or die this is. Lose and finals destiny is out of our hands. Not what we want.

I'd also be bringing Clarke back in. There's a few he could go to (Daniel, Libba, Treloar), and could have impact.
Then I'd be leaving team as is apart from that. I don't want to bring Cunningham back in as would probably move Florent out of the back line which (yes he wasn't great last week but who was), he's been good at HB.
In: Clarke
Out: Campbell

Cunningham and Florent aren't the same (i.e. Cunningham is not a HB), bringing one in shouldn't impact the other. Maybe Florent or Blakey will have to start on a wing and push back at centre bounces but that's it.

Anyway, agree on Clarke. Bailey Dale seems to be the biggest rebounder at the Dogs in recent weeks, probably who I'd put him on. Similar role as he did to Sinclair. Similar size player.

Cunningham's first game back, Florent played predominantly on the wing/mid. He was poor. Best used off HB flank.
