Review Round 18, 2020 vs Collingwood

We had 6 frees up until half way through the last quarter.

Im currently watching the replay. There's Port frees galore on offer but not getting paid. Same shit happens to a Collingwood player and there's a whistle.

I'm all for umpires putting the whisle away and letting the game go, but you still have to pay the genuine ones.

I think there were no injuries, and no potential suspension concerns (otherwise there would be an ongoing, extensive forensic investigation!). So we need to squeeze Butters, Clurey and possibly Burton in.

the non-call HTM on SPP in the goal square was incredible, they gave collingwood every chance to get a run on in the 4th.

You're letting your disdain for him cloud your judgement. It was an intense pressure game. He wasn't the only one handballing teammates into trouble. Not sure what you're on about him missing straightforward kicks and yes that double fister was horrible.

I actually don't particularly dislike bonner as a general rule. But he looked like a finals liability tonight.

That was a professional, clinical performance. Smashed in hard from the opening bounce and didn't let up against an opponent that had plenty to play for.

The game itself was quite a lot different to most of our games. Collingwood defended pretty well and worked the ball out of their back half slowly and methodically. We seemed to have little problem defending this sort of footy - in the end, they were lucky to score as much as they did. Jonas, DBJ, Lienert and Houston all terrific down back.

Our midfield was once again fantastic. Rockliff superb, Wines and Boak very good and Robbie Gray back in the thick of it doing Robbie Gray things.

Our forward line was held together by the experience of Motlop and Ebert. We're going to need a lot more out of Dixon, Marshall and Ladhams against Geelong if we are to win that game.

Such a significant moment to top the minor round ('away and away' season if you will) from round one to done bar none, especially in the context of our last decade, and this our 150th season. It's the heritage the Vic footy buffs talk about begrudgingly and in a historical context , but with no real nod to it being our LIVING heritage. Today, we took a small step in reaffirming that heritage. But that's what it is, a small step. The real challenges await. Glad the team got to enjoy delivering in a big moment after a big season, and now can nuckle down and deliver on the position we've worked hard to get into..
A big shout out to the senior boys - Rockliff, Boak, Gray, Wines, Jonas and Hartkett - stood up time and time again, and were complemented by the brilliant half back flank play of DBJ and Houston, and contributions right down to the 21st and 22nd picked players with Lienert willing himselve into and above the contest time and time again, and the sheer doggedness of Woodcock. A heroic nullifying effort by lycett on Grundy - set us up from the middle. Great contributions after a match like this, too many to mention, a great day and even greater things to come. Love ya Port, so proud tonight

Viva Le Gabba specialist Thomas Rockliff. Sorry I'm still in Tour de France mode.

Getting Rocky for nothing under free agency might prove to be the biggest piece of serendipity in our AFL history.

Voss being an ex Gabba specialist also is important IMO. I really like he is on the bench talking to players, especially the boys in the engine room, given that's where he produced some of his greatest deeds.

Not Gabba specialists but McKenzie and Dixon deserve mentions as being formerly Queensland based too.

Respect where respect is due. That Collingwood skipper has been probably the best stalwart of a club in the last -15 years. We have been exceptionally blessed by blokes like Boak, Robbie, Westhoff who are all gifted at the game, but also play honourably and fair. Pendlebury is that same ilk, and respect should be shown.

Certainly deserves to be chaired off after the record tonight, even if the result didn’t go his way.

13 kicks 3 handballs highest DE and most meters gained for the team. But all they can say is always hand balling team mates into trouble..... madness

Pendles is probably my favourite non-Port player. Champion footballer and bloke and a joy to watch.

Fair point, but I don't really understand why blokes should be chaired off the field if it's not their retirement game.

That sort of performance puts him breathing down Clurey's neck at best, or ups his trade value at worst.

It was only one game against a team that has had scoring troubles all year, tough his game was great tonight - it's too early to be making big claims about his future at this level.

So much pressure before game and during game. So much not caving into pressure.

Last week I was at AO for the game v Essendon. Go home, watch replay. Wow. Seems I was at a different game if you're listening to tv commentary.
Tonight, watching the game live on tv, lasted all of 5 minutes before muting tv. Sounds like I made a good call. (Besides, nothing like listening to yourself commentating the game anyway )

What can I say? Jealousy is a curse.

He is the all time games record holder now, I reckon that is a fair pedestal and worthy of a chairing for sure. Especially given his status in the game.

Besides, teammates do these things. It's not as if he would have requested it and he was certainly within his rights to accept the offer.

Brilliant effort by the players & coaches. Ken has done a top job this year and proved me wrong. Have loved the team spirit displayed all season, the timely dropping of non-performing players and the way Ken has assessed games throughout the season.

Good win guys, your class and polish prevailed against the Pies. I reckon Geelong are a harder matchup than Richmond for you since they have Hawkins against your undersized backline so you'll need to beat them in the midfield.

Good win guys, your class and polish prevailed against the Pies. I reckon Geelong are a harder matchup than Richmond for you since they have Hawkins against your undersized backline so you'll need to beat them in the midfield.

Lienert will have his work cut out for him if he stays in the side, he wasn’t in the side earlier in the year vs Geelong and could be the key difference, but I do worry Hawkins’ arm lube will be too much for anyone.
