* it’s been a long day.

We have asked the question on Bailey Smith.

Mowman Joffaboy StCicatriz can all vouch I went earlier than Sam McClure on this.

Whole league is asking however.

We really like Holmes. But I can’t see it happening personally.

TDK should be a saint if the season ends today. Ross thinks he can get a lot more out of him. Rates the key attributes.

Wants a key back. But setting sights lower than McKay Himmelberg now. Latest whisper. Tom Jonas.
Boss wants a legitimate key defensive stopper with height and power.

Gresh is gone IMO. Ross not a huge fan.

Really wanted Bergman. Ross wants players who have height power and can intercept mark.

Wants to find more penetrating kicks.

And if they can’t bring good players in. Just wants to load up for the draft. Happy to play kids.
Jonas? Seriously?
He’s 32!

Can't see much value in our list but basically I'd trade just about any of them for picks. Only safe ones imo are:

  • Mitchito
  • NWM (if we can)
  • Pou (if we can)
  • King (unless three good first-rounders)
  • Stocker (just because I like him)
  • probably Windy
  • Wilkie
  • Sinclair (unless two good first-rounders)

Listen to offers on all the rest, none of them are crucial, and the older ones are heavy contributors to the shit culture and attitude we currently have.

Won't happen but would be cathartic.

Look all well and good to have a list. But we need the picks. And if we fire sale we won't have the high picks that we would want. Why would clubs offer top picks if they know we are trying to clear the decks.

Our biggest issue has that we've been way too quick to give up our top picks for the quick fix. And that fix hasn't come.

We need to be honest and continue to build with youth. Teams that have had most success have been the ones that have built their own list. Time to do the hard yards.
Ross wants to hit the draft. It all depends on who we can convince to join us. We are talking to contracted players.
All sounding good with the exception of Tom f*cking Jonas lol
As I said - we are pretty far down the list of targets to bring in another key back. I heard Tomlinsons name 6 weeks ago.

Don’t think we are grabbing McKay or Himmelberg.
If we were Carlton we would be ropeable if we accepted a 2nd rounder.

And I doubt he chooses us anyway. Can see him going down to Sleepy Hollow with his brother.
He has been shit this year and got dropped. They won’t get a premium

Well hopefully we scrape into the finals then.

Because there are a number of teams at present that are showing a bit. And if I had to choose as a player between a team that has missed the finals in the same fashion 2 years running or go to GWS or Adelaide etc, I don't think we will be high on destination lists. Just personally.

It all sounds great but who would want to come to St.Kilda we've been dishing up dross for like 10 weeks now

That's the thing. We need to show that finals are a possibility. We either show we have some promise or we end up getting more Hannaberys who are just looking for a retirement package.

That's another gold star for the CEO Mowman 🤣🤣

Or coaches

I wish it was the list.

You can’t possibly draft 49+ professionals that all can’t kick and make decisions.

These players ALL give effort and tackle constantly. They are just, to a man, sick of the drudgery of these horrible defensive gameplans. They need a coach to excite them, teach them something not defensive and how to create, and join the modern football age.

This is 80-90% on coaches who are incapable - as in they just don’t have the ability - to coach and teach running patterns and how to move a football under pressure in a modern sport.

Without the above, we are screwed as there are plenty of teams now that can do it in the league. Most have coaches that have learned how to design ball movement drills from other sports.

Because of Ross and the past years of Richo/Ratts we have a list terribly underdeveloped when it comes to footy IQ.

Sadly, Ross is obsessed with effort, defence and tackling. So was Ratts, so was Richo.

How the club thought a coach like Ross was the answer is beyond me.

He’s about 15 years too late with that philosophy. It didn’t win anything back then and sure as hell won’t win anything now.
We were top 5 for scoring efficiency early in year - weve declined and in fairness Lyons stated that’s the drop off he’s putting on players and coaches to fix. Not accept fix. That’s not the game plan. That’s surely been impacted partly by what’s left and not injured as well as sone incredibly dumb players who play like headless chooks. We have a few.

Or coaches

Look I want the coach to work. I want every coach we select to work. Because at the end of the day if they are working well it means our club is doing well.

But my issue at present has been the mixed messaging from the club.

We got rid of Ratts because we didn't think he was getting the best out of the list. We thought it was better than it had performed.
At the present moment the same issues and problems are still there. The same senior players getting games when they really shouldn't be. Ross, Hill etc
A number of senior blokes in my view have actually stagnated or gone backwards.
Players continually played out of position. Hello there Sharman.

People saying that we have to cut deep into our core. But that we will magically become a destination club.
I think it's fanciful in all honesty.

In all honesty I think that the board and Pres were hoodwinked by our now CEO into thinking we were on the cusp and that our list was so far ahead of what Ratts was achieving. So they did what was needed and went for the guy who has had great success in getting those near ready made teams to take the next step.
And yes I think Ross is great at improving ready made clubs. He had a great list at his disposal when he arrived in 07 for us and in 11 when he arrived at Freo.

Problem is that Lethlean managed to save his own skin and blame it on everyone else.

We've been lacking big time in the midfield. Have done for a number of years, but we havent really changed it at all this year. Hell our number 10 pick has barely played any time there and the bloke who wears the 10 hasn't had the chance to show up whether he can play a pivotal role in the midfield.

We need more mids at minimum. If we get rid of Membrey and Howard we need at least 2 backs and 2 forwards.

So there could be more pain to come. But instead of the Pres saying that we are close. Perhaps it's time to be honest with what we have. I'd rather a bit of short term pain with honesty rather than sitting mid table being mediocre.
