I'm not sure on the injury status of any of these guys, but you'd have to think most if not all of them will return this week or next: Coniglio, Cameron, Patton, Shiel, Cornes, Brogan, Mohr, Tyson, Adams, Smith, Kennedy

Shiel and Tyson would be the most questionable of that lot as there hasn't been an update on their status, the rest seem to have been rest/soreness against Freo.

I wonder how many will turn up to see this one..

But yeah, big challenge for the Giants. I wonder if any Pies will take it easy because they've agreed to join the Giants for next season?

I'm looking forward to a lot of good ins.

In one way, it's a pity we're hosting the pies at this point: all the youngsters are cooked, pies desperate for a big win - the timing of our meeting could not have been worse.

It would be nice to top 10k for this fixture - but we have to be honest - it's very, very hard to generate interest in a one side fixture.

The early season excitement of some genuinely good performances has evaporated entirely, and the idea that we had assembled a better list than the Suns is starting to look like a bit of a myth - our season will end up looking far, far worse than the Suns' debut season.

Quite frankly as a Geelong member I am worried about our 37-13-239 vs the bears at Carrara with this one. If we get smashed by Melbourne and Freo, what are Collingwood going to do to us.

The problem we face this year that the gold coast didn't last year is the evenness of the competition and the consequently important focus on percentage. Whereas last year a team up by 70 at three quarter time would ease off the pedal and win by 65-80 say, this year with % a key, they are putting the hammer down the whole way. They cannot afford not to. And it's not just the top four, but there are four or five looking at 8th spot.

So our thumpings are magnified as a result.
Collingwood has a worse percentage than both Essendon and wet toast who sit behind them on the ladder. They have no incentive to be nice.

Going by the injury report we can expect Cameron, Coniglio, Kennedy and Mohr back for this one; all listed as test.

Add to that Adams (BOG for UWS), Patton, Smith, Cornes and Brogan (if required) who we're assuming were all rested. Those eight, sans Mohr, were all outs last week.

It will help a lot - we need them in the team.

No doubt about that. I know they're giving a couple of games via rotations to the guys who have only played one or two, add to that the token debuts, but from here out I'd like to see them really balance that out with the bulk of the team being a best 16 or 18 plus rotations/tokens. For example:

B: Power, Mohr,
HB: Cornes, Davis, Bugg
C: Scully, Ward, Palmer
HF: Treloar, Cameron, Adams
F: Folau, Patton,
Foll: Giles, Coniglio, Greene

Then fill the remaining 6 spots however they please with rotations: Smith, Townsend, Clifton, Darley, Bruce, Brogan, Phillips, Edwards, Hampton, Tomlinson, Hombsch, Miles, Wilson, Haynes, Whiley, Hoskin-Elliot, Ugle, Aylett, Buntine, Frost and on and on.

Shiel and Tyson still to return from injury in the next week or two of course. Not to mention if there's minimal 'rested' players and most of these guys stay fit we could have 14+ listed players with UWS rather than 8...

I write all of that then take a step back and think: it's the first year, a development year, they know what they're doing. haha :D

I think GWS will play better this week I reckon it will be less than a 50 point margin the pies were fairly bad last week

hopefully you guys get a bigger crowd for this one

Some very solid ins there, Coniglio and Shiel still yet to come, even Mohr too.

Disappointed to see Clifton out for one, I thought he was pretty solid in his first taste of AFL footy but I guess that's just rotations.

Good ins.

Amazing that Coniglio, Shiel and Mohr still missing - three consistent performers this season.

Kind of like that team actually.

Frost/Folau to help ruck. Haynes should be better with Cameron and Patton on the field. Not sure I like Cornes in a KPD role. WHE always surprises.

I have no idea where to post this but your club song is awesome! It's so catchy even though I dislike GWS

That's awesome! Lol @ Israel not knowing the words.

I saw the round one clash v Swans. GWS played behind the ball and clogged up the Swans forward line.

Are GWS expected to play a similar game to that today?

If they do, I expect it to trouble us (Collingwood) because our forward line hasn't been too functional lately. I think the game will be a lot closer than many people are predicting.

It's a sunny day in Sydney. I'm looking forward to checking out Skoda stadium and seeing how the Giants go. Hopefully it's a good game of footy. :thumbsu:

I hope it's a good game of footy. Generally, theres 3 types GWS games - we keep it tight and hard till we run out of legs, they blow us away in the first quarter and then relax and some point, or they blow us away in the first quarter and keep going.

The two games where we didnt run out of legs - Richmond and GC - went right down to the wire, and we won one and lost one.

My feeling is we just dont have the depth to replace Mohr and Coniglio, unfortunatly. But I hope we play as hard as we can for as long as we can, and match Collingwood in two of the score, the contested possessions, the tackle count and the fights.

Interesting points. It's been mentioned the last few weeks that the pies don't like having some of their running backmen who like to get free manned up with defensive forwards. Obviously we don't have the personnel to tie you guys down for too long, but it's something we should try and maybe keep it close till at least half time, maybe even well into the 3rd.

We could perhaps try blokes like Power and Cornes manning some of your running backmen, e.g. Power on Shaw, Cornes on Maxwell or O'Brien, etc.

Have a good day out!

According to the team sheet, we have Palmer and Townsend on the HFFs. But like that means anything playing for Sheeds.
