If we finish 5th - 8th we would need to win 4 finals that would likely include wins against Brisbane, port & woods… why not test it out over the next 4 weeks as we play 3 of the top 4 as a mini finals run?? Brisbane away, Freo home, port home and woods MCG. Let’s see if we can do it…. Would be a good audition for the real stuff… would give some credence to Scott and others who think we can win 4 finals on the trot…..
Has anyone won two interstate finals b2b then a grand final win?? Seems incredibly steep and a pain in the ass given two interstate sides sitting top four

So there's no in between? We lose, we're cooked, we win, we're not?

Can't be a close loss against a juggernaut at home to show we're still building and will play finals - and may still be able to bring our best when it counts?

Seems a huge lack of nuance combined with your standard Eeyore style pessimism, to me.
I guess since Coll lost to Bris at the Gabba earlier they are cooked as well.

Maybe - and hopefully ive put too much emphasis on the recent Bris v Rich game and Martin was a late out - so that didnt help the Tigers

But apart from say a 3-4 minute period in the 1st qtr where Rich seemed to have settled things down a bit - they were just totally obliterated - and i think the Tiges kicked the last 2 goals of that game to bring the margin back to 81 pts good players like Bolton and Baker couldnt get a kick - they were just non existent

Id love the Cats to win and win by 10 goals - but for mine Geel have not played 4qtrs - eg the Port Ade game - the 1st qtr was brilliant stuff - but look what happened in the 3rd qtr

For Geel to win - Rohan has to play - when they have got the 3 gun big forwards it just makes that forward line so much more dangerous - and Rohan often has brief spells at FF where he is a damm hard match up

And for Geel to win - they need more players like Dangerfield and Atkins - in respect to their aspect of giving 100% at every contest they are involved in

And that is probably why Atkins on this forum is often listed in the best players ( but doesnt allways get coaches votes ) it is probably a reflection that the supporters really like/appreciate Atkins application and determination in every contest he is involved in - where as some other Geel players just coast

But i want a Geelong win because i want Flag number Eleven
Why do you keep comparing us to Richmond? They are shit. They haven’t even been in the 8 this year.
They were also missing a heap of players in that loss.
Just because a weakened Richmond got flogged, doesn’t mean we will as well.
Yeah they beat us early, but we were missing half a team and we weren’t fit.

The Swans got within 10 points of them up there. Compare us to them instead.

Most likely is us finishing 5th and Melbourne 4th. Thus a Victorian semi final and then Brisbane at the Gabba or Port at AO (tricky) in a prelim. That's not too bad.

It's an absurd notion that we need to win every single game from here to be a remote chance. Ideally we win one of the Brisbane and Collingwood games - this would then give us 3 wins and 2 losses against top 4 teams in the backend of the year if we can beat Port at home. Beat Bulldogs and St Kilda and our record Vs top 8 teams would thus stand at 7-3 overall. That is a more than competitive record heading into finals.

If we sneak into fourth and beat Collingwood Kingy might end up in a mental asylum....it's going to be too much for him.
And did you see him on 360 do his best to break down and show how Geelong works … might as well just be a lions coach for the week..
if he didn’t have a hard on so much for seeing us fail it wouldnt be so bad..

I think a bad loss will be demoralising, the thing is someone else mentioned Collingwood but they are top of the table, all their finals will be at the MCG.

Beating Brisbane will have them shitting themselves if we finish 5th and then play them in a SF at the GABBA.

If they smash us here, they know we aren't finishing top 4 and have the mental edge if we have to go to the GABBA for a knock out final.

Close loss is ok in a sense, but this is must win.

Yes it does piss me off when he does these break downs - of us generally. Still it's one thing to know what to do but another to be actually able to do it.

I doubt it. You use the word cooked- I am only referring to the flag here. A dose of reality. We are talking flag chances. Assuming Pies will be there, if we can't win interstate in H & A, what gives you confidence we turn that around in finals, assuming we get that chance. Not saying cooked, the discussion is purely about are we the threat to Collingwood.

Collingwood were beaten by the Lions on the same ground, so a loss here won't add any clarity to the debate re: our standing v Collingwood imo.

If Geelong win tomorrow, is the season still over? ;)
If we don't make top 4, I kinda agree with David King as it makes it hard. My frustration when I said that was due to me believing Brisbane would beat Melbourne and Geelong being a big chance to make top 4. Still possible but unlikely.

We have to go toe to toe with them for 4 quarters. It isn't as simple as a 1 point loss ruling us out as contenders and a 1 point win with Daniher hitting the post from 10m out after the final siren meaning "we're back!". Nuance exists.

True, it'll definitely be hard and unlikely from 5th (but not impossible, especially if we go 5-1 or 4-2 from here). But we would be the most credentialed non top 4 team since the pre finals bye was introduced - and 3 other teams since then did make it to the GF from 5th or below.

Trying to find that segment Daz, does anyone a link to that online?

If we are competitive against both the Paddle Pops and the Pies (and win one of the games, at a minimum), I think we're still in with a shot. Lose both, and I figure we're done.

And then there's the small matter of winning all the other games as well, of course. Saturday night's football suggests a strong and sustained resurgence is not out of the question. But there can be no more picking and choosing about when to bring our best. It's got to be basically full throttle from here till September now.

That's a sobering reality for us to face, of course. The sobering reality for all the other teams is that our best is still clearly good enough to worry them all.

Would they be going today or tomorrow? Just out of curiosity
I wouldn’t mind wandering to there training if they have one
He said they're arriving tomorrow so I'd assume they'd leave tomorrow morning.

I'll see if I can find out where they're training.

Thanks, Geelong are normally pretty good with updates regarding interstate training just nothing been said yet, that’s why I agree they must be in tomorrow morning, then train in the afternoon and have the night off

I received an email on Tuesday, announcing that the boys are having a run at the Gabba at 2.30 p.m. on Friday afternoon. Enter via Gate 2...
