Some thoughts from being at the game.

We smashed them. Faaark it was good.

Also.

It was a unique atmosphere. You could hear every crowd sledge that would usually get lost in the general noise. Most were good.

Seemed to me that just about every Port person there knew that what they had to do they had to do loud. Cheer, clap sing.

Players were gassed even with the short quarters fair bit of puffing off the ball later in quarters.

Lots of love for the bars.

Players showed a lot if love for the fans as they walked off. Maybe they are getting what it means.

They cut the audio of the song at the end of the game part way through and it was like when they first turned down ntua a slight pause and then damn if those last few lines didn't get sung with passion - deliberate by the club?

And in something that will surprise no one as I wasn't far from a food outlet the sma (bunch of cnuts)have halved the size of a serve of chips (but kept the same price).

Could talk about the game all night but others have done it better , butters, rozee, duurs, Motlop dbj sensational. And we can get better much much better.

Was that pumped had trouble sleeping.

Damn fine night.

I feel embarrassed for Tex here. Surely the pic has been doctored?
Kane never lets it go does he.

Kane generates outrage because it gets clicks. Clicks = revenue = people wanting to hire Kane because he makes them money. He couldn't give two shits that he is abused on social media as it merely adds to the aforementioned cycle. The best bit about everyone going 'GRRR KANE CORNES DUMB DUMB' is that its merely making him a more profitable asset in the eyes of media management and Kane is perfectly aware of this.

I actually agree with Kane here for once. That contest where Charlie snapped his third stood out, even though Charlie didn't play his best game, he was never tired and competed all night. He looked fit and determined to make a impact physically in each contest. As for Tex he was barely sighted and the game looks to have sped past him. He isn't fit that stands out and the game is to quick for him now. The end has come for Tex extremely quickly and it's not sad to see for me.

We could hear you loud and proud. Well done!
As for the SMA .. ****ing thieves.... the MCG and Marvel are paying the Vic clubs to play there this year but what do the SMA do? **** all, apart from trying to fleece the punters even more.

Just watching the replay and have a few random thoughts we may not have covered yet.
  • Rockliff was important - his disposal isn't always well executed, but he adds real spine to the midfield. Didn't notice his contribution until watching more closely
  • 17.8 is a very pleasing scoreline for a Port fan. Yeah there were some gimme misses, but the glorious speccies made up for that. Hope the accuracy is here to stay. Didn't even get nervous when Westy was in front ;)
  • Yeah the umpiring was at times perplexing and inconsistent, and they were losing control in the last when the rabble threatened to turn the game into a dust up. But hats off to all of them for agreeing to 14 days isolation so we could play at home. Without them doing this, this game would have been a fizzer in Queensland
  • How good is it to see the #1 on a Port guernsey again?

I do not want Hinkley pumping up the tyres of our opposition anymore. We need to make our players believe that they are the best team in the league, a Richmond, Hawthorn and more similar Geelong. We are starting to move the ball with authority like Geelong did in their prime years, that mixed with our influx of xfacfor players. The players need to mentally believe they are the best

Quick shoutout to Brad Ebert as well. Most of this board had him written off after a couple of poor practice matches, but he's come back averaging 17 touches and a goal over his first two games, more than handy numbers especially considering the shortened quarters. Playing his role and deserves his spot.
Absolutely. And whats more port than an Ebert in a headband in the PBs thumping another team from adelaide

Can anyone please explain to me what Rory Sloane was getting his knickers in a twist about towards the end of the first quarter after the Hoff snapped our 4th goal?

He said he got knee’d in the back I believe but I see no evidence as such on the available footage.

He had a few choice words to say too that got picked up quite clearly too.

Is this yet another example of the butter wouldn’t melt in his mouth Rory showing his true colours in a showdown.

The guy is the biggest faux nice guy in the league.

The reason the Hawks were okay with parting with Burton was because of his ongoing injury management concerns. We'll need to find the right balance with him.
I’m fine with that. We got duursma mayes and traded up for rozee out of that trade.
burton is also a guy I’m not worried about being rusty. Feel like you could rest him and bring him back in and he would still be sharp.

Do we think he playing next week?
Garner needs to get a go again some time soon, and would be a like for like replacement for Burton, although I agree with the suggestion of moving Houston back.
I really like Garner and want to see him get games. As long as we are winning it’s hard to see him finding a spot. I think he is the current Hartlett replacement.
So how does George get back in, and wines?
I’m not sure they do. I absolutely want Georgiades to get games and wines to get games to get value for him at the end of the year if he goes, but I’m not sure I’m dropping anyone from last nughta
Houston's game as a midfielder has gradually declined.
so so. It getting the huge disposals we saw in flashes last year but he is doing some very good things. Playing as a defensive mid and shutting opp
They were short stepping all night, whether it was to avoid contact with SPP or with Butters. This is the softest team the crows have ever put on the park. No heart, no toughness, Weak.

yeah I called during the telecast that 2 crows players pulled out of contests.

they should have been called out on the commentary but weren’t. I would want them dropped if they were my players. One was Murphy, forget the other player.

This, so much, this. He’s just started to talk us up as emerging into one of the best teams in the competition. Maybe he’s been told exactly what you’ve said above.

Shit club no history!

They witnessed how a real football club goes about it tonight.

They could never hold a candle to us.

The wheels are coming off the franchise experiment and without the strong culture of a real club it might be time for the AFC Board to consider disbanding? It is not as if there is any kind of tradition or history that would lead to anyone lamenting the disappearance of the crows too much, in a couple of years they would just be a curious historical footnote in the annals of SA footy. While the crows franchise was an interesting little experiment perhaps it's time they disappeared and another real club was elevated from the SANFL. Food for thought 🤔.

you are right about Rockliff. I was surprised how much of the ball he actually got, you just didn’t notice him on the bottom of the pack. It was the same for Hartlett last night.

with Rockliff and SPP (even though he had low disposals) having a decent positive influence on the game, I can’t see either going out for Wines. And it would throw the balance of the team to play all three. Will be a very interesting selection this week.

Maybe he actually believes it finally. This year is wide open with how it's come about, and we have the look of a very good side this year.

The two games against West Coast and Brisbane in the hub will tell us a lot, even the game next week against Freo is no easy game. If we get out of the hub at 4-1 we'll be well placed.

I don’t think you can take much away from this round in general.

Teams have come back at very different fitness levels. the results don’t surprise me, there was always going to be an upset or two.

Ports concern is that they haven’t really played anyone of note yet And still a few weeks away from that.... the Suns, Crows and Freo are not good teams. Brisbane is a 50-50. West Coast will get better.

although Port looked really good last night, not getting overly excited yet.
