If we get monstered in the centre clearances again could be very ugly. They have a descent midfield

Who knows which St.Kilda side comes to play next week. I'm tipping we go 0-2 and hoping I'm wrong.
Can’t flog them on the track travelling so really just need to make a couple of changes and try to get the players in the right head space. I’d play Owen again the kid deserves another shot at it probably drop Byrnes and Kent.

We really need someone running through the guts that has pace and can break a tackle, wouldn’t mind giving McKenzie that role & give NWM a run on the wing.
Owen although a bit lost at sea last night might be better for the run under his belt & worth another chance, also Hayes definitely stays, Kent definitely goes, as someone pointed out in the match thread, when the ball hits him on the chest it bounces off again, happened last night at a crucial stage.

If Hayes keeps up how he went in Round 1, how does Ryder come in to play? Ryder is clearly the best tap Ruckman, so it would seem to be a very top heavy forward line.

Sinclair into the midfield until Jones and Clark are back
Hill to the wing or out of the team.
Our primary centre bounce options should be steele, crouch, gresham, sinclair and Bytel until clarke and Jones return.

Move Wood and Kent into the "offer nothing for the future, use in case of emergency" category (read: Covid)

In general, stop giving game time to players that will never take us anywhere.

Give Owens time in Sandy until he is kicking down the door. One more week for Byrnes to see if that was an aberration.

Either play Nasiah or leave him at Sandy. If they have him as sub this week its bordering on negligence.

Bytel, Highmore, Sharman into the team.

If Ryder plays, I'd drop Wood and let Hayes play that role.

Sinclair to the midfield, Highmore into defence, Paton or Webster play a more attacking role to replace Sinclair.

Give Owens another run but then you'd have to leave out Byrnes.

Early call

B Paton Howard Wilkie

HB Highmore Battle Webster

C Hill Steele DMac

HF Higgins Marshall Butler

F Membrey King Gresham

Rucks Ryder Crouch Sinclair

Int Kent, Owens, Ross, Hayes

Pretty much agree.

Hill's disposal is only a weapon if he is in space. Wing or out. HB is not his gig at all. I doubt he would not be picked though, and you would certainly keep him over Owens and Kent.

Our midfield needs improving but cupboard is quite bare of available options.

Gresham will get better with games, and we saw this in the second half.

Sinclair definitely worth persevering with as a mid for now. He may even be ready now mentally to make it as mid permanently. If he does his smart ball use by hand and foot will be a welcome change from what we are used to from most of our mids.

The underdone Bytel is our only real on the ball midfield option outside of who played last night. He is a true mid and has gone ok in the past. Let us hope that he is fit and ready to play and is also ready to bloom.

I am not sure that we can fit both of Highmore and Sharman in. Highmore is possibly not quite physically ready at present.

Long has his faults but he would be a better option than Kent.

Nasiah would be a better option that Owens at present. But Nasiah would still be a developmental option is played.

Very similar to the MCG where we typically play well. King should be full of confidence walking onto that field too.

Optus is a but bigger yes, but the MCG is a lot wider (8m) which helps us and especially players like Hill.

Marvel is a lot closer to Optus in size than it is to the MCG which is bigger again in length and especially width..

Was nearly going to nominate Jimmy or Sinclair as a mid, but the way Sinclair is playing off a HBF would rather leave him there for drive.
So then it was out of Webster or DMac for me, with the latter getting the nod.

I'd bring Sharman in for Kent who was next to useless last night, Sharman not only gives us another marking option but he can kick straight which is a rarity for our forwards.

Our midfield was disappointing last night but with Jones, Clark and Billings unavailable we can't change too much in the short term, we could possibly bring in Bytel if he's fit or NWM. I don't mind the idea of shifting Sinclair into the midfield although we would miss his run off half back.

IN: NWM, Sharman, Long
OUT: Owens, Kent, Higgins

Others were quieter than Higgins but he took chances from others and wasted them, noting Long is not perfect either but I'd give him that spot for the week on a "as soon as you stop putting the team first you're back out" basis and see how we go.

There is no way Kent and Owens keep their spot next week.
