Autopsy Round 2, 2023: Sydney torch Hawthorn

Day was great, liked Amon's game as well.

First game I've seen on the telly this year but at times a few of our defenders just didn't look like they were working back hard enough.

Could only watch the first half but I doubt much changed. We need a tackling coach or something, pressure is okay but I've had enough of completely slipped tackles.

Considering nearly all our experienced players are in the backline and all the marks inside 50 they were getting, it's very disappointing.

Midfield good, held there own but just lack class and polish.

Could be the worst forward line ever to set foot on an AFL ground.

Frost is just so god damn BOG average

Kellie Underwood is just so god damn BOG average, makes my ears bleed.

no doubt we will finish last and unfortunately we need to.

We have no presence in the air, we are a team of slow short people

I feel sick to my stomach after watching that. Was not expecting a win but the “response” was basically non existent.

Newk, Day, Ward, Worpel, Moore, Amon and Bramble can hold their heads up somewhat.

Improvement need to start with Sicily who was atrocious today and the coaches. If we were losing and playing with a system that would be one thing but we have nothing other than use the corridor. Teams know that we don’t have a plan b.

Can’t see how we will get close to North who are well coached.

2 ruck strategy has to be dropped for the short term. Only other tall bloke on the list, Ramsden, must come in to play forward and provide a chop out in the ruck. It’s desperately bad at present so we must try it

Tagger strategy must also be dropped for the short term as we can’t afford to play one down in the forward line
I think Finn went back and wasn't tagging... Problem is he cannot do much beside tag.

Only watched the second half, but that's poor from the boys.

I was hopping for a better result compared to last week, but forget that Swans was last year grand finalist.

It's second week of the season, will wait for a few more games to see how the boys responded.

Uncompetitive in three of four games (2 pre-season) to start the year. Pattern.

Love Sam, but he looks to be in shock in the coaches box. Needs to find plan b,c and d fast.

Getting belted weekly does not help developing kids. The opposite.

Dimma doesn't seem to have the fire this year, not sure what's up there.

CJ may aswell be the new Frost.

Worpel is back. Day was really good again, our best today. Bramble at least tried to take it on.

Can't keep getting smacked each week. We'll be a huge risk of big contending clubs raiding our young talent.

Must get Day signed.

Was expecting to get torched.. never fun though.

There were some individual highlights and glimmers of light in midfield.
But I find the lack of any sign of systems outside the middle, a bit concerning.

So what round do we ask for a priority pick?

Are we the first team in AFL history to have 1/3 of our list not selected in the national draft?

Midfield was decent at least in the centre. Just couldn't keep up with the Swans on transition.

Day was excellent at finding the ball, finding space where space couldn't be found but let down on execution. Just needs to back himself to be the main man as he has the most damaging kick of any of our mids. Stop ****ing taking a little bit off the kick and going for a little deft chip and launch it.

Newk, having a slow start to the year but is building. Had some nice moments in the second half.

Worpel has backed it up again. Found his mojo.

Amon's kicking under pressure was excellent today.

Moore worked hard but needs support. Too often we tried to use Moore as our outlet ball for the simple fact that he was the only one who found his way up the ground. We CANNOT use the smallest guy on the field as our outlet ball it is insanity.

Thought Meek was the best ruckman by far. Should be our #1. Noodle has been underwhelming.

Backline is poor. Frost was turd. Blanck had his colours lowered. Sicily had one of the poorest games I've seen from him. Impey seemed like he didn't want to be out there. Bramble had a purple patch in the third but so many terrible moments. CJ looks like he needs a few weeks off.

Forward pressure - non-existent again. Teams are waltzing it out. Zero forward structure. Too often we are kicking to a 4 on 1 or there is no one up forward waiting for the kick down the line.

Nash I thought was excellent. He needs to play every game. Physical, doesn't take a backwards step. Might not have the skills but **** me if he doesn't do the little things right.

Seriously can we ban people from posting about Harley Reid? We're not Carlton ffs, bloody embarrassing that our own fans are death riding us
Spot on.
I’m actually spewing about what I just watched.
There’s a lot to say about the performance but it doesn’t really achieve anything.
I just want the players to burn, the coaches to burn and for all and sundry to have a good hard look at themselves.
What we just watched is not the hawthorn I know and love.
