You don't 'send a message' to other players by who you list on the bench. You tell them to their faces. I expect players would have been told very clearly at the start of the season that out-of-form senior players will not be getting carried anymore. These guys are professional footballers, they know the drill.



Because the match committee probably figure an out-of-form Gaff is still more likely to perform than a raw, underdeveloped kid, or playing someone completely out of position. Not my opinion mind you, just logical speculation. IMHO, seems kinda unfair on Gaff to publicly announce he was being dropped, then (presumably) tell him he might need to suit up if there are any injuries. Wouldn't we be better off naming Trew?

Either way... it's just a team sheet. People should save their melts for Sunday.

Doesn't sound like it so far. Don't know who would be dropped for him either, unless we have one of those pesky last minute injuries to announce to Cripps or Brocky

Very different to guarded Simmo we are used to.

I think there’s a genuine attempt by the club to be more transparent.

It’s a reflection of where we are at as much as anything. Simmo would be well aware no one at GWS is laying awake at night wondering which of our kids comes in and how we set up the ruck. But wouldn’t be surprised if he has been encouraged to feed the fans a bit more info than previously

The Barnett/B. Wiams thing is interesting. Sounds like they think Williams is the better forward. So they'd rather lose the ruck and hopefully get more forward (with Barnett as ruck) vs better in the ruck (with Williams) but probably lose forward.

I don't know about it. I think Barnett could get smashed from rucking, which means it's bot going forward much anyway.

Barnett is coming in. Will play ruck so we can have Bailey play a bit more forward.

Maric is gonna be sub.

Chesser, didn’t do enough in pre-season to be in 22 but looked good on the weekend so he’ll start in 22.

That’s a lot more info voluntarily given up by Simmo than just spotting witho having a kick with Gaff and WAFL boys.

Simmo spoke at length about hit outs to advantage against Port and how many Soldo got.

Based purely off what Simmo gave up, it appears he wants to see if Barnett is able to neutralise hit outs in a way Bailey couldn’t

Also think Bailey training as a forward all pre-season and wanting to settle him probably factors in too.

They have changed things and when I try to put my ticket in my Apple Wallet it just sits there buffering.

Also tried to transfer a ticket to a mate and he could not download.
