Review Round 2 Postgame - Loss Against Sydney at Home

“We needed to send the ball to different areas at times…yeah, um, it might’ve meant we had less opportunity to score, but we wouldn’t have got hurt the other way”

This is almost a direct quote from the presser
I listened to this and honestly thought it was 2016 Ross speaking. It is so bleak that we are being coached to worry about turnovers, instead of attacking and scoring goals. Like the mental message there is so grim.

I cannot believe we are still playing not to lose rather than to win. I really thought midway through last year when were were scoring 100+ consistently that he had changed and evolved to fit more with the direction the game is going in. Why the **** does he think there is room for a defensive first game in this day and age.

Don't worry it get's better.

“There are times when we can control the footy and we don’t have to play a fast game.

"When we have them on the speed dial and we've got them locked down, we can keep our foot on the throat and play smarter.

"It might not just be go quick all the time and keep trying to score, it could just be control the footy a bit more and take the sting out of the game, and the momentum out of the game.

"I just feel like we weren't playing momentum well in that last quarter."

Like seriously we didn't try to go fast all game. Why the **** is JL telling them they need to hold the ball up MORE than they already did.
This is actually the scariest thing I have read, the clubs mentality is completely and utterly ****ed. Don’t even think a coaching change can get this right. **** me. Talking about not taking the game on after that performance? Well and truly ****ed.

While I'm venting, I'll get this one out there because it will be unpopular. I'd play Bruce ahead of a lot of players but his speed is probably going to put a ceiling on what he can become...

Maybe…didn’t hurt Diesel.

Kid has it.

If I'm being extra petty, usually it takes a few seconds after 0.00 to sound. This siren was instant.

I cannot express my hatred for afls protected species that is Sydney.

Worth noting, even if we won I'd still demanding we sack JL because our gameplan is pure trash

I 100% noted that. If you want to compare to some of the bullshit we've suffered on sirens previously, including THE AFL DOCTORING ****ing video sound footage it was crap. That shit blew dead on or just before when I've watched 100s of game where it hits zero and takes 2 seconds to go off.

Lol the deliberate OOB paid to Sydney at the end of the first quarter that was literally identical to that North game a few years ago where it wasn't paid for us.

Siren wasn't an issue in this game though. Amiss only marked it because the Siren went when the ball was in the air and the Sydney players didn't compete.

"Speaking post-match on the Final Siren podcast following the loss, O’Driscoll said some of the 'little things' hurt Fremantle in the final term when things were going their way.

"It's little things like holding the ball in at times. We don’t need to play on at times when we are up by 15 points and there are 10 minutes left," O'Driscoll said.

FUCCKKK me if that's what they're being told. I don't think there was a single time we got a mark and DIDN'T hold the ball in.
The only time we ever looked like scoring was when we moved the ball fast.

So doesn't that mean he can take the kick. The balls live if the siren goes off while it's still in the air, am I right?

On.a positive note I thought Erasmus played his best game for the club
Is that sarcastic? He got caught HTB right in front of goals instead of getting a HB out, then he missed a set shot 30 minutes out and he was the one shown of Fox's First Crack ball watching when the Swans defender kicked one of the two goals in the last quarter. A 50% fit Fyfe would be better than anything Erasmus can dish up.

I'll throw a random discussion point out for anyone that's interested.

We got smacked in stoppages, usually a strength, usually pretty dire when we get cleaned up in them.

Despite this, conceding field position, we had 59 i50. Did we actually move it ok, (dare I ask) did we actually just bang it in too much?

Just seems slightly strange number (3rd highest for round) for us in particular getting belted at clearance.

I think any team can get bulk inside 50s these days. It's about the quality of them which is why it's all moved to fast movement.

The majority of our i50s were slow bombs because we could not transition the ball with speed. It is incredibly hard to score like that in modern footy. Teams are too good at defending it.

I've long been a JL backer but not anymore. I am fully in the sack now camp. I can't fathom how he can watch the best teams move the ball quickly only handpassing to a teammate in a better position and/or forward of the play yet he seems to think an over-handballing game will work. The players are not skillful enough nor are most of them smart enough to execute such a game. It falls down every time under the slightest pressure.

Our backline sucks balls. I've said it for years but Cox is not a defender' arseh*le. He can't defend 1v1 to save his life. I said it in the vent thread that we will not win anything with Cox, Ryan, Wagner, and Walker in our back 6.

Why in the actual hell was Draper the sub? The sub should be someone with some x-factor about them and not a ****ing KPD. That is the height of idiocy.

We will lose to the blue and yellow cretins next week and I have seen nothing these first 2 weeks to change my mind.

They both lifted when it mattered in their one and only final. Kicked our first two goals and got us going.

They have both been underwhelming so far this year. It's pretty damning on the whole organisation that if the Doig was decided this week it would going around an 18 year old 2 gamer's neck.
That was 3 years ago and we've utterly failed in 2 seasons since then. One by losing our last 4 in a row. They haven't been at their best for a while

Sharp is not an afl footballer. The amount of times he aimlessly bombed it in was ridiculous. Football has moved on from that kind of player.

Similarly football has moved on from Erasmus type player. Inside mid who can't drive his legs out of contest with questionable disposal. How much contested possession does he need to win to cover up his deficiencies? They should give his midfield minutes to Reid.

Between Brayshaw, serong, Erasmus, sharp, MJ that's too many mids who you would struggle to call above average kicks.

Cox is shyte. We've all said it for awhile. His lazy ways has finally cost us big time. There was that preseason video of training where our KPPs were battling one on one and Cox got done time and time again.todays effort should come as no surprise.

Clark and Ryan provide nothing off halfback. Albeit they are good defensively. Zero vision and flair. Chapman Wagner and maybe even draper open the game up more. I swear Ryan just likes to kick long to protect his disposal efficiency stats. It's like NBA players who refuse to heave shots from half court at end of quarters.

What's wrong with Jye? has he put on too much size?

We are so similar to Carlton it's scary.

2 more marks in the game and getting tje third tall defender can be as much luck as anything with how we move the ball. You can see Jye working and getting ignored pretty quickly and easily. I'm not jumping on the slander train while we play with this insipid ball movement.
Why do you think that is. Yes, maybe it looks more obvious when watching but yes when we move it fast you can see open players but they choose just to slow it down or just bomb it..

Same thing happens with Amiss and I suspect Bolton is also going to know this frustration intimately soon enough. It's **** painful watchin Amiss getting burnt having got 5m separate on his defender 5 times a game.

We have some smart forwards, but no ****er up the ground has the composure, skill and confidence required to continuously make the most of it.

Just imagine how much more dangerous they'd all become if Daicos, Pendles and Sidebottom were up field of them.
Good comment. Thats why 3 years ago I wanted Clark and Young higher up the ground. We need our best kicks and decision makers distributing into a leading forward line. Instead we had Blacres and now Sharp delivering 55m rainmakers.

I have nothing to back JL up anymore, the whole structure and gameplan is cooked

Holy shit our mindset is really ro try and protect a 2.5 goal lead with 10 minutes to go. With the way things are now teams can reel in 5+ goal leads in that time.

I've noticed this for a while. We have become a bit too Treacy conscious when going forward. He does need to make more of his opportunities but he is not getting the amount that he has had previously.

The shot Voss had in the first from outside 50 when it went on the full, he had Amiss on a good lead inside an empty 50 after he managed to get separation on his opponent and Voss just completely ignored him.
