If we’re talking ceilings & they are obviously hypotheticals, but his ceiling could be someone like Sam Mitchell. At this early stage his speed of decision making & his skill execution is very good & not dissimilar to Mitchell.
He needs to continue to build his tank to make the most of getting into positions to utilise these skills.
I’d take 15 of Mitchell’s disposals over 30 of someone like Gaff. Quality over quantity every time.
His kicks are nicely weighted but he'll need to learn how to spear them a bit more to get to Mitchell.

He's a gun, don't get me wrong but you can see why clubs had concerns of some sort.

I wonder if the club is aware of the pressure from supporters in removing JL?

The socials are a cesspool of inarticulate dribble, I guess people will start emailing the club.

I am personally disgusted the way this season has started, he needs to be sacked this week.

I don't think the club really care, to be honest.

OK I challenge everyone to tell me one positive thing about the game.
I’ll do 2
We managed to get my father in law who is suffering from severe depression and chronic pain out of the house for the first time in about 2 years and he came to the game with us and enjoyed himself

And

The old blokes behind me were buying me beers

If you watch that game in isolation of the expectation, the coach situation and our end to last year, that loss is squarely on the players.

Expected score we win by 9 points.

Blame the players who missed the high percentage shots.

The mids got outworked at stoppages around the ground but halved the centre clearance and they got us enough quality entries to win it.

I'm usually very forgiving of the players but not today, they may have killed their much loved (internally) coach there.

Tried to say the exact same thing in the vent thread but got shouted down
Banfield shouldn’t and won’t get a game next week
Voss would be on tender hooks

He's probably slower than Ras by foot and not a big frame. Again, gun, will play a lot of footy.
I think this is a long way off, I don't know why there is this misconception. His 20m sprint time in the preseason last year "nearly pipped" 3 seconds which is very solid. He is not elite leg speed but he is quick. Not once did I think he was slow today, just clearly needs a bigger tank which is expected at 18, so he can run at top speed longer

Mitchell took 3 or 4 years to get to the player he was. As long as he’s hitting targets I’m not fussed on spear kicks & one of Mitchell’s best features was putting the ball in a position that would advantage his team mate. He put it where he wanted his teammate to get to in relation to where the opponents are. Hawthorn are now the best at this.
Reid is already is very good at this.

“We needed to send the ball to different areas at times…yeah, um, it might’ve meant we had less opportunity to score, but we wouldn’t have got hurt the other way”

This is almost a direct quote from the presser

Sounded like was specifically talking about moments late in the game where we gave Sydney turnover possession. He said it was 3 or 4 moments in the context of the players from both sides in the 2nd half being fatigued.

He was going to say young players, and realised it was going to sound like an excuse so he said "youngish players getting caught in the moments" which doesn't add much nuance but I would guess he would have been referring to moments like where Voss got up a head of steam and arced around and bombed it centrally, probably miskicked it off the side to an area where the turnover risk was high, where maybe if he went to a pocket with his kick we could set up defensively and then "play the game in their area" by getting the opportunity to create pressure on their defence by locking it in, via a ball up or a boundary throw in rather than have to chase tail on the way out. Sydney's field kicking was much more precise than ours all through the game, and eventually their shots at goal improved enough to score more than us.

Maybe also a couple of kicks from Sharp where they went long to a spot that looked dangerous but aerially it was where the tall Sydney backs controlled the contest and then they just rebounded. We got the ball in there enough times "31 second half inside 50 entries for 4 goals".

I disagree, he looks below AFL leg speed to me, those speed times.never feel reflective of in game speed.

He will play 200+ very good games though

I've noticed this for a while. We have become a bit too Treacy conscious when going forward. He does need to make more of his opportunities but he is not getting the amount that he has had previously.

The shot Voss had in the first from outside 50 when it went on the full, he had Amiss on a good lead inside an empty 50 after he managed to get separation on his opponent and Voss just completely ignored him.
Yep that was arrogant and f*d
Pissed me off
Hes D grade

Simply lovely. Players in crowded areas continually trying to take possession knowing full well that they will be tackled within a second, Banfield took possession from that NOD kick out of the defence and he was lucky he managed a half arsed handball to a player running past because the Sydney player grabbed him immediately. We ended up with a shot at goal (Voss from an angle that he missed completely) but it Shows a mentality of taking possession when a simple tap was a way better option. But taps don’t go on the stat sheet, do they?
Even Eagles today on several occasions they got the ball out of the congestion effectively with a tap. Lot’s of teams do it. Not us clearly which is strange for a team more than happy to use hands rather than feet. Nah, let’s just handball to a stationary player surrounded by opponents if not tackled before that

This is a coaching issue, it’s stating the obvious but some people still blame players
There was one in the forward line where Amiss could have tapped it to Bolton who was primed and ready and instead took possession and got tackled
F F*ks Sake !

Im on the bus coming home from the game so apologies if I repeat any comments.
Shocking coaching
No tag on the Chad, just waltzing around singing Free Bird.
Ten forward 50 bombs to a pack, no one ever front and centre crumbing except red and white.
Eight consecutive attempts to clear the defensive 50: Ryan long 50 m to Jackson, no crumbers front or back.
So many easily fixable structural setups.
Some players who are not soft, play soft because of non existent instructions. If instructions have been supplied and they still dont want to tackle, then why are they playing.
What are the tackle stats?? ( genuinely dont know)
Freddy has no idea how to crumb
Surely this gets coached into them ?!
It’s 101 FFS

We’ve got players in our ammo league who kick straighter than him mate

The thing that shits me most about him is that he has the tools. If he was a reliable set shot he could be a very good AFL footballer.

Once again... you're pointing fingers and not answering the question? Is Graham still highly regarded?

...Wait - Jaymie is that you? No wonder your dots aren't aligned...
If you are Flagmantle **** off back to the rock you crawled out from... You are not a supporter, you are a toxic cretin who thrives on the misfortunes of others.

Either that or you are a toxic West Coast supporter who thrives on the misfortunes of others.

Not sure why everyone is piling onto Voss? He made some mistakes but also did 1000% better than Reidy? He is a forward target and just needs some confidence - he also provided an outlet which Reidy wasn't able to - it was the midfield that failed big time - also Voss better than Amiss today? At least he competed

Because it was Voss’s series of clangers at the end of the game that lead to Sydney’s scores. If he kicks from 30 out directly in front we go up 3 goals and win it.

Instead he hits the post, and then moments later he has a chance to send it i50 where we were set up and instead goes lateral to a Sydney player who’s able to go straight down the other end for a goal and instead it’s a 1 goal game.

Add to that his shot towards the end of the 3rd where he should’ve centred because he was never a chance from there.

He’s easily better than Reidy and honestly Amiss at this stage imo, but it was his successive clangers (and Brennan cox) that lost us the game when we were in a very good position to sew it up

Cox is an experienced player and his effort was awful. Voss has played, what? 10 games? It was a miss kick into the middle - he tried to center the ball to an outnumber - why no hate for Amiss who did nothing all game? How many goals did Bolton kick? I hate hating on young players - if you guys played Reidy there would have been no miss kick - no goal or 3 points - and no marks down the line - Senior players like Serong, Brayshaw, Ryan, Cox etc. were terrible at times - that's where the loss comes from - not a young guy

With Reidy you don't even get a kick from 30 out . . .
