After a surprising win in round 1 against Carlton, the Tigers hit the road to face Port in Adelaide yet again as 28 of 42 games against them have been in Adelaide.

The Tigers will be full of confidence after the round 1 win, while Port will be smarting after a shocking performance against the Pies in what was the first game of the final season of Hinkley in charge. You really have to wonder whether the players may well have checked out knowing that he won't be in charge after this year and that his message just doesn't have the impact that it should.

Port really looked like a bottom 6 side the way they played last night, they had no structure/system in their forward line, their midfield was poor despite having a mountain of possessions and their back line struggled to stop the Pies from scoring especially in the 2nd half as the Pies did as they pleased.

Now the question is how do Port respond? As mentioned is it a case of the players have checked out on Ken or was it simply a case of a bad R1 performance against a side that was also looking to respond after a poor game in their first hit out. For the fans of Port, you'd like to hope that it is a case of the latter otherwise 2025 is going to be a long long season with mounting pressure on Port & Hinkley to maybe part ways sooner than anticipated.

As far as the Tigers are concerned, this game provides an opportunity for us to prove that R1 wasn't an exception but is the type of performance that we should be expecting from week to week. Now that's not to say that we're going to go on a winning streak and put ourselves in the mix for finals, after all we won just 2 games last year, including beating last years runners up, so we have shown that we're capable of a big performance occasionally, but more often than not we were found wanting.

So before we get carried away with beating Carlton, lets see how we follow up that performance. If we can play with a similar level of intensity and effort the scoreboard will take care of itself.

Predicted Line Up:
Out: Lynch* (suspended)
In: Ryan/Fawcett

B: Miller Blight Broad
HB: Short Vlastuin Trainor
C: Banks McIntosh Trezise
HF: Mansell Campbell Green
F: Bauer Fawcett/Ryan Lalor
R: Nankervis Taranto Hopper
INT: Brown Dow Armstrong Ross Sonsie
EMG: Fawcett/Ryan Smith Alger

FWIW I don't believe that Lynch should get suspended, but the tribunal is a raffle and given the previous suspensions handed out for bumps like Lynchs, I am expecting him to miss a week. If somehow we can get Lynch cleared, then I'd go in unchanged as you have to reward last weeks side with a chance to back it up.

Prediction:
Port to hit back hard and put the Tiger cubs under the pump early on and see if they are capable of backing up the R1 performances. The heart says a Tigers win by 2-3 goals to get the season off to the perfect start, but the head says Port will hit back and get their first win of the season by a similar margin.
The coaches moved KMac out of the centre of when the Blues jumped to a 41 point lead. I would suspect that Dow or Ross will start in the centre while KMac might keep his role as second ruck or start as sub to give Sonsie a run.

Nice analysis.

I don’t share your optimism.
Port are a very good side and we are playing them at home.
Lynch out will really hurt and won’t allow Harry to just compete.

Samson will be next man in and the ball will slingshot out at pace.

Keep playing for the future.

I’d drop Green and bring in Kmac2 to shore up the midfield. Allows Kamdyn to move to the dead wing to help the defence.

Sonsie was ok as the sub.

Fawcett in for Lynch. Would be great if Faull was ready but he’s needs a block of games to build conditioning. Let’s see what the tap can do.

Sonsie did f all when coming on and On green i suggest you watch the game again the amount of great work he did must have been missed. As were others whom hardly got a mention eg Tresise he was really really good.

going to be interesting the reaction that Port put up after the wooping they took vs the pies.
They are a good team, but will have the pressure on them big time.

I'm not feeling good about this game at all our young fellas will have no crowd to help them this week ,the young fellas really feed off the energy when we were coming plus port won't play that shit again this could be really ugly .....God I hope I am wrong feel free to rub it in if we win will be too happy to care

Stats say otherwise as McIntosh Taranto and Hopper attended 20 of 24 centre bounces, Nank attended 19 of 24, Dow 9 of 14, Ross 3 of 24

Sonsie had 7 possessions in 25% game time. Provided a link out of half back and didn’t do anything wrong.
Did more in his time on ground than Green did IMO.

I thought Trezise was good too.

WTF?

Melbourne FC should hand in their licence to play AFL…this was their first game of the season

Even Fitzroy in their last days had bigger attendances

Wet weather kept them away i guess lol

we can only hope. Bring the relentless heat like you did Thursday and we will fold.

The observations of the OP on the lack of forward strategy and midfield stat padding is right on. If you put pressure on the ball our plays will panic handball to space and you'll sweep it up and counter attack.

I'm looking forward to the booing that comes...
Our game kinda felt like peak 2017. Pressure & scoring heavily from turnover. I can't see Green being dropped. I like McAullife but no one is being dropped for him.

Lynch presented well, got beaten a bit, Fawcett debut in SA be great but it puts a win out of question.

yep...Trezise was good and a stayer.
Sonsie we need to play and come to a conclusion this season on do we persist or he won't make it.
This season is a development year and a who continues the journey and who doesn't.
Sonsie - in ... Green - sub

Pity about Balta's brain fade and resultant Club imposed suspension. He would probably have been the player to relieve Nank in the ruck and may still be after serving his time out. It's so early in the season and I've no idea how our side will look like at the half way mark when the ACL boys present for selection. Very exciting times ahead. And the Port game, for better or for worse, will show us how close we actually are to being a side to be taken seriously by all opposition Clubs.

rest the 3 debutants this week, bring em back for rd 3 along with Lunch n whomever else ,its not a must win game n its a very long season, gotta look after the magnificent 7 this season along with Gibcus n not push em too hard, this season is for HRS,Dow,Sonz,Ross,Brown,Banks,Clarke,MRJ,Green,Tresize,Miller,Young.Kozi plus anutha 5/6 guys to prove they're worth

i know many will disagree as it disrupts fluidity and connection but it aint bout making finals this year
they'll( the players) will play enuff games together this year,15-17 maybe, to form a nucleus for whats to come
there wont be any unfamiliarity

Wouldn't be quite as crazy if we did it, given that the player currently leading our b&f would be Nankervis
lalor ruck

dumma wouldve done it
