It almost never happens. I don't think any of those players are playing for their careers today, only one would be Stocker as he isn't contracted but it would be a huge surprise if he were delisted considering he's played nearly every game.
almost? so it does happen?

And so these fringe types are fairly comfortable then with what they bring to the team?

I'd like to think they are nervous about their careers at the club because they are very average players and have been getting games because of the list issues.

Because we'd be paying out a player fully and it will still come straight out of the cap. There's no upside to that, it's not like we are desperate for list spots right now.

The only player I can remember us doing that to in recent history is Robbie Young, who was one year into his draftee contract so in very little money.

so clubs never move on contracted players? I thought it happened all the time. disagree we aren't desperate for list spots, all the indicators suggests a rebuild of some magnitude will start at seasons end.

I can remember it happening once when we delisted Robbie Young after one year aside from that it never happens and I can assure you none of those you mentioned will be delisted while under contract.

You said they're playing for their careers which would suggest being delisted. Being traded to another club isn't the end of a players career.

playing for your career can also mean you need to impress potential suitors at other clubs because you have fallen out of favour with the coach, how many players would be worried Ross doesn't rate them, many I'd suggest.

Clubs trade contracted players, which is very different to delisting.

If you are traded to another club it does not mean your career is over.

Dunstan is a really good recent example of a player being traded to another club but essentially his career was over as he was bought into Melbourne as a break glass in emergency type. Very common.

All four players I mentioned appear to have reached their ceiling and will most like only ever be seen as fringe back up types.

Dunstan was delisted....
yeah delisted, traded, whatever career was over before he left the club, my point is we have many players who aren't capable of taking us to the promised land and will feel like they are playing for their careers in this final few weeks.

Last time I checked. Luke didn't have a contract. And he moved to Melbourne as an UFA.

I don't know how we can win by more that a goal or two, as we can't kick a big enough score- sort of crazy the we are in the top 8 but struggle to kick 100 points

No. He was delisted and was a UFA

Hickey and Stanley two "fringe" players traded, both of whom are still playing after many years. And both got better after they left us.

Went to Oppenheimer last night instead of today George. Decent flick, though not Nolan’s best. Muffled dialogue as always with him, some shallow character development which could be trimmed - but worth a watch xoxo

Yep also went to Oppenheimer last night. Agree re the shallow character development.

Believe there should have been more time on the Jean Tatlock character. ;)

I'm sick of his muffled dialogue set up but I'm a sucker for anything based on a true story about war or crime so 🤷.

Glad to hear it's not a complete flop though xx
