The hacks on Gameday were banging on about it this morning. You wonder what tabloid journalism inspired bullshit the producers feed them to discuss. No mention of sewing up our first finals since 2013. No mention of being in the box seat for top 4. They're the real stories. Like one 50m penalty has such a huge impact on the game when the margin is 51 points. Ludicrous.
I have to disagree on this one. It was a poor decision that I would have railed against if it happened to us, as it has many times in the past. The failure to pay the mark to Swan in the 2011 Grand Final that turned that game still rankles. The final margin here was big, but that decision broke them. It was a game changer, and it was out of the blue, an over reaction to the incident in another game entirely.

It was the wrong call, but good teams don't go on to lose by 51 over one bad decision.

I have never been called out in a post before, which deserves a raised eye brow (o_O) and a LOL :)))
- We can tell you are happy by the pitched tent ;) your avatar looks like the bloke (google says Aragorn) from Lord of the Rings. It's what I watch in between Collingwood wins, since they are so bloody long. I haven't had much chance this year!

Cheers for the reply. Just to clarify - my avatar is very old/tired joke which has stuck. My BF name is the short version of 'The Sheriff of Wellingham' and hence the profile pic is Alan Rickman. But it is very pixellated. And I misspelt "Sherriff".

I would change it but just even having Wellers in my profile makes me think of Bruce McAveney and Tom Harley commentating as he waltzed in for another goal in 2010 Replay GF saying he was making it look easy. Ahhhh....

Just watched the replay and a few points :

De GOEY is a beast. He needs to have a 5-10 minutes run through the midfield every quarter for the rest of the season. The ball is attracted to him. He lays tackles, and is just so explosive. He’s our X-factor.

Grundy is a god amongst men. He’s another midfielder when the ball hits the ground. Scary good. When he comes OOC, we are screwed.

Crisp, Greenwood & Aish played the small defender roles, and played very well. You didn’t notice them, which is always a good sign for defenders.

Murphy shows so much composure for his first game. Will be a fantastic player. Does the basic things right.

Cox is a role-player. Our whole forward setup revolves around him. Fantastic.

Madgen is an okay-defender. Just a tad-slow and has the fumbles at times, but will improve with Howe in the team.

Adams played fantastic. Probably the most complete game he’s played for the club. Fantastic performance.

Langdon played Gray fantastically. If he can shut down the teams best midfield-forward every week, we are a big chance. Probably the best lock-down game that I’ve seen from him.

But my absolute favourite thing from the game was Sier. He laid 7 tackles, but I kid you not he used his body in several contests. When he lays a tackle, they stick. It’s scary good.

I recommend to every poster watch the game. Just keep an eye-out on Sier, he laid 10+ Tackles and half of them don’t get registered as tackle, but it disposes the opposition. Amazing.

I disagree on JDG. If he was 100% fit I'd think more kindly of that move but as we all know, he's not. He also adds so much to our F50 dynamics. For the remainder of this season I'm happy to see him given an occasional need based burst through the midfield. If Sier offered something forward and the 2 could wax midfield/forward time with ad-hoc rotations that would be Nirvana for me. Hopefully Sier's preseason includes lots of work on contested marking and forward craft along with building the tank.

On Madgen, I'm not so sure he's slow. I remember commenting during the AFLX how quick he actually appeared to be. Watching him at VFL level I'd also thought he had relatively clean hands. There's a couple of disconnects there. I'd say his biggest issue at the moment is game awareness and nerves.

Thanks for that, nice guy, interesting his comments about chemistry with players missing and those coming in, being part of a good culture and Bucks.

I just don’t think in finals you can play it safe. I agree he adds so much h to our forward line. But he’s also amazing in the midfield. I can see arguments both ways.

Magden definitely looks slow. Maybe just slow to react (ie awareness) but I see him getting beaten on the lead often, but not in a proper body-on-body marking contest. Plenty to work with.

There was a period early in the 3rd where Port were beating us in clearances. DeGoey was thrown into the midfield and helped stem that, helped get us back on an even keel. That's how he should be used. I don't think it's a coincidence that our scoring dried up then as well. I don't have access to the GPS data from games but I'd guess the mids are the guys who cover the most ground and at more pace, neither being a good thing for a shin hot spot I'd assume. His stress fracture obviously hasn't fully healed so why would you expose him to that risk unnecessarily. It's not about playing safe, it's about playing smart, ensuring he's got the greatest possible chance of playing every game going forward.

It was a soft decision but equally it was incredibly dumb of Motlop to do it right in front of the ump. He gave the ump little recourse when it was so blatant. It did affect momentum but I don't believe any one decision has an impact such that it's the difference in a 51 point margin.

My comments weren't so much about the decision but the fact it was focussed on as the main discussion point of the game when we've just guaranteed our first finals series in 5 years and set ourselves up to be every chance of a top four finish. This off the back of some pretty impressive footy. I was looking forward to some good analysis (hope against hope) but instead I got a bunch of panelists trying to beat up a story. I find that really dissapointing and I expect more from our commentators.

Just finished watching the replay......in the first quarter his opponent was Polek.

After that I have no idea who it was watching on tv.

It would be really interesting to see his minutes played. Mayne and Aish I saw often start on the wing after quarter time.

P.S It was a better game on tv than watching live.

P.S.S. Maynard was massive and Langdon was also very very good.

Just quietly Grundy will win the Copeland by a mile.....what a year so far.

I will say it again........this bloke should be our next Captain.
Steel or Adams will be, with Grundy next in line.

Yes, the Copeland is a Monty.
Will also poll very well in the Brownlow, due to his midfield numbers, tackles etc.
Estimate TOP 5 in Brownlow.

Edit: is it Grundy? Yes it is....it’s GGGrrrrrrrrunnnnndddy!!

Was great seeing Varcoe carried off and it really gave me the feeling that he's a true Collingwood man now. Hopefully a few more injury free seasons and a few more medals :trophy:
He must have been light headed...sitting on Cox & Grundy shoulders

The Change of Culture is a Huge Reason for this

Sadly your expectations are unrealistic...
