What is this Laughton titwank's problem? All year he's been talking us down, he must be a Carlton fan with his contant disbelief that we could ever make the eight, despite never being out of it. Great predos, genius.

And as for this Cotton SPANner, like most of the footy media, particularly those employed by Fox, should have spent his time in English classes listening to the teacher, not dreaming of becoming the arselicker to footy heavyweights like Damien Barrett.

Good signs- a bit more thought into the field kicking, more players running to make space. The backline was solid and Cordy did very well and NWM was one of our best. Still worried that the forwards are not leading enough though. Sharman is our best field kick- he doesn't get huge possessions but rarely misses a teammate. Good game from Hill too, and Max looks confident, but needs to stop staging for frees. Top team effort. Maybe Billings will take Clark's place next week?

King moved more K's then he ever has, he was lot smarter on Balta, he didn't allow him to get one on one in a body wrestle.

Max's game today was one of the poorest 6 goal games I've ever seen. So many cheap frees off him moaning about minimum contact, if I was a Richmond fan that would be enough to make me hate him for the rest of his career. Shameful truthfully.

But hey we won so play on I suppose

EDIT: Fair do's, watching the replay, Max's first few goals were pretty good, and I just remembered the free kicks not the rest.
Yeah - I agree. Great to get soft free kicks for once but generally we need Max to be stronger and hold his ground better in marking contests.

100% success rate for me - only been able to get to two games this year for two wins.

Anybody want to kick in for my hotel costs next weekend?

Max kicks 6 in his second game back from what looked like a season ending injury and still cops it. Jeez we are harsh on our own.
He has kicked 22 from 9 games = 2.4 goals on average. On track for 52 goals this season.

If we remove Melbourne as he only played 40 seconds. That’s 2.75 goals on average.
On track for 60 goals this season.

That is an elite key forward air space.

I was at the ground and geez, I wouldn't take too much from our performance, yellow witches hats would have put up more of a fight today. Even the Tigers supporters weren't their usual feral-selves.....I reckon onfield and off, they realise the golden generation is done.

I think we're cooked, the older guys are a bit banged up and the youngsters are running out of gas at the end of a long year. Next week is gonna be super-tough.....

That sounds like the Cats too. I reckon they went at Friday night like it was a GF and fell short against Collingwood who kept getting injuries. Jeremy Cameron created magic and the umpires pushed them the whole way. Danger was playing like he 25 again. They couldn't have produced much more and still fell short. Those kinds of performances are pretty psychologically damaging.

If our midfield can perform like it did on the weekend we can get them. Seb Ross made a huge structural difference. He is a different type of player in our midfield. He improves the balance.

We need to start well and make their heads drop.

It's much harder to push from behind when you've already got the success.

I didn't see the game, what about Membrey,? Why not sub him out?

The short answer is that Sharman was playing a defensive forward role and I think we thought the game would settle into a more stoppage heavy game as the players got tired.

The structure looks better with Tim up front. Membrey stayed closer to goal than Hammer has been and we seemed to give Phillipou and Owens more time in the midfield and licence to roam. Nearly everything we did looked better this week. That first half against Carlton was very good but we looked better again.

Our transition game was on song and the spread and run were very good. The game became a whiplash end to end game and you couldn't work out who was driving it but we definitely did it better. As Ross said there were hardly any stoppages and that's where they probably would have had the advantage.

I thought there were a couple of soft frees but that is what guys like Curnow and Cameron get every week. You still have to kick them. If we got that out of Max every week he'd be considered a superstar.

Hate to see what this place is like after a loss
Ah no man...Why? It's great fun here after a loss...you just have to leave the bitterness of the first few autopsy pages to do its thing. By late Tuesday, the best personalities, a bit of truth and honesty, quips and analogies, and a few lingering wordy scraps that started out as an acerbic astringent, has softened like a cheap wine turning good.
If you stay for the ride, the best shines through.
In all honesty though I think, as a St.Kilda fan (especially the older crew that have been supporting since the 80's) our arses have been burnt so many times, that we become edgy and paranoid when it comes to these situations at this time of year.
It's easier to lean into our history of s*itting the bed in such instances, than look to clinking glasses with at that two faced whore that calls itself optimism.

Every press conference Ross Lyon seems to be at pains to point out how good our season has been. I think it's hurting him that what he's achieved with what he's had at hand is being downplayed to a point of being patronising.

Imagine any other side making the top 8 for the whole season and getting called frauds and lucky the whole time. Why are the Dogs not frauds? Or any of the others sitting in the bottom half of the 8. He's getting a lot of disrespect....including from us fans. It was a weird season with lots of hype and hope early and then just barricading ourselves inside the 8 and getting through. Was he's achieved with a very young and ordinary list smashed with injury is kind of incredible.

Harsh

Stuck some good marks. Kicked straight.

Frees were there. Could have had a couple more to be honest.

As long as King finishes the work, that's what we need him for. Gresham also finished his work.

An almost game for Higgins.

So much great running from Hill and Sinclair. NWM superb.

Windhager continues to impress. Owens so competitive even on a day where his disposal was off.

And a very good Rowan Marshall game.

100% Gringo, almost half the year sitting top 4, to date never being out of the top 8, percentage much better than last year, won more games than last year and if we beat Geelong, we're playing finals.

We were panned for not being active in the trading period, picked Pou and lucked out with Caminiti, as you say significant injury list, and if we looked back to the start of the season, we could have taken our current position in a heart beat - all in all, what's not to like. I think we're looking good for the next few seasons.

The Max King knocking on here is embarrassing. He’s putting together a very strong season for a player that has been smashed by injury.

Every free kick he got was there, mostly because Balta was just out of his depth and couldn’t compete with him in the air.

I would encourage anyone who thinks Max didn't deserve those free kicks to sit behind the goals on level 2 or 3 and pay attention to just how much illegal off the ball work is put into him by every defence he comes up against every week.
With the introduction of the 4th umpire this year I thought maybe he'd get a clearer run at it but it doesn't seem to be the case.

Yep, those Richmond fans must really hate that Tommy Lynch fella and his soft frees 😬
