Didn't see the game yesterday but thought Petrie was one of our best against Essendon. Strange comment that his form is a concern.
He has looked slow and has been getting beaten in contests. He hasn't been awful, just no where near his best, which is the same for way too many of our players at the moment.

We're gonna kill Hawthorn then eat their children...whoever they might be.

Yum yum.

My son is Jeff Kennett.

Eat away...

North Melbourne to be 1 and 2 come the end of this round. Put your house (or for Kanga supporters, your cardboard box) on it.

Agreed. I thought his game vs Essendon was ordinary even though he was having a go. It's just that the rest were so piss poor!

The key for us will be our midfield pressure. We match up well (refer to recent record), but which North midfield will show up? The one that contests everything or the one that lets the opposition run through the middle like a training drill?

Yep, I like the direction that our forward line and back line are heading. They are becoming very solid units. Our weakness is still the midfield, so that definitely is the key.

Pumped for this match hopefully JWS is back.

Will be watching Swallow closely, his limitations have been glaring in the past 2 weeks.

-Decision making
-Disposal
-Vision

I'm sure all can be improved on but can't help but think a Grima, Ross or even Riggio could be more damaging in the lineup at the moment.

Our midfield shouldn't be a weakness with McIntosh, Harvey, Harris, Wells and Simpson in there - but it looks like we are trying to subsitute midfield depth with backmen and forwards rotating through there and it is making us look a bit weak.

We need another two real midfielders in there. Grima and Lower would be perfect to replace two of Power, Watt and Brown - and I thought Brown was good and Power servicable on the weekend - we are just sacrificing real midfield grunt for versatility at the moment.

Re: Round 3, 2008 vs Hawthorn. The Pre Game Banging on Thread

Our KPP's have to come to play this week as the hawks KP defenders are lacking and it wouldnt surprised to see Z.Dawson getting a game.

Harro has to show the league who is the extractor and who is the copycat.I think hodge is the key to winning this game and brady should put the clamps on him as he has done before.
We just have to move the ball well and quick to stop the hawks flood and we will be well on the way to victory.

I hope we win!!!!!!!

I cannot stand Hawthorn, they are my most hated club after Collingwood.

I hope Gibbo tears buddy a new one like he did for the majority of the game last year.

I hope Rawlings annoys Hodge so much he cracks it and gives away 5 Free kicks again.

I cant see a way their defence can handle Thompson, Jones and Edwards, and now Shagga!(Sewell stitched him up back in Round 3 (07), but that was back when Sewell was half decent)

Very biased but i hate Hawks :D

Future is Brown and Gold my ass....its blue and white and comes from North Melbournnnnnne :thumbsu::thumbsu:

We lack class in there. Our main midfielders are Harris, Simpson, Rawlings, Swallow and Grant. I've felt that Harro hasn't been quite as good in close and with his hands as in the past, and I think its no secret that Grant doesn't possess the silk of previous years. The other 3 play huge roles for us, but are poor disposers.

Wells and Harvey don't play enough midfield. Smith and possibly Grima would significantly change that. Having them would mean Grant being a full-time forward, which really needs to happen.

A slight injection of class would make a huge difference.

Grima has a long penetrating kick, which thommo and Azza would love before they have a couple of opposition players next to them. Unfortunately we seem to be just filling up the our problems with Selleys No-More-Gaps instead of starting from scratch and getting it right!
Laidely must think our 'premieship window' is open and must be scared that by blooding/settling young players with class permanantly, im talking Urquhart, Thompson, Grima, Lower...we might get subbed into the 'rebuilding stage' group....
who really knows?

Re: Round 3, 2008 vs Hawthorn. The Pre Game Banging on Thread

Tough game for us.

At our best and allowed to play how we want I think we can beat you guys comfortably. Don't take that the wrong way, but if allowed to be free flowing and open the game up I think we'd win.

The problem is, you guys are one of the best at stopping us playing our best footy. The footy we played against you guys in Launceston and in the final were probably in our worst 3 games for the year. We are better than that. Clarkson has become extremely good tacticly but I'd say Laidley and Roos are the two coaches who I think have got his measure so far in stopping us play how we want.

Telstra Dome suits us playing you, as its much harder to shut us down than it is on one of the outdoor grounds, and quick ball movement is inevitable at some stages, so its easier to break the game open.

Not sure, I think we'll win, but I thought we'd win the final last year too. I think we're a better side this year, and have a harder to edge to us, and Rioli and Stokes have added a new dimension to our forward half. You guys will stretch us though without Croad if given enough quick ball, so I'm not overly confident. Whilst I think our win against Freo in Perth was a big step for us, I think you'll be the first side to play 4 quarters against us, and not give us patches of dominance to the extent we've had so far.

Any team team when they are allowed to play the way they want look good and generally win as it means no pressure is being put on them! Don't take this the wrong way but Hawthorn like to run lots and rack up the uncontested ball and avoid the contests. If we are are switched on in the contests and you allow us to be free flowing when we've got the ball... heck, maybe you could just allow us to win?

:pROFL. I hope that's a joke. It must be.

Unless you mean he is now FULLY decent, as distinct from half decent.

2006 - 3rd B&F
2007 - 1st B&F
2008 - In the best 1st two rounds.

He appears to be going along OK.

Re: Round 3, 2008 vs Hawthorn. The Pre Game Banging on Thread

I think both teams will struggle to contain each others forward lines.

Defender/Runwith----------Offender/Midfielder

Hawthorn Defense

Gilham--------------------Thompson
Brown--------------------- Jones
Guerra---------------------Grant
Murphy?------------------Edwards
Ladson-----------------Thomas/Campbell

Midfield

Sewell---------------------Harvey
----------------------------Wells?
Rawlings-------------------Hodge
Harris--(head to head vs.)--Mitchell
Campbell/Taylor--(H2H)---McIntosh/Hale
Simpson-----(H2H)---------Lewis

North Melbourne Defense

Gibson & Petrie-------------Franklin
Firrito---------------------Roughead
Watt-----------------------Boyle
Pratt----------------------Bateman
Harding-------------------Rioli/Stokes

It will be the battle of the midfielders to get it to their forwards. Whoever wins the most clearances will most likely win the match.
