Don't go winning meaningless ****ing games at the end of the year.

It'll be the third week in a row that we come up against a team that has been spanked or played horribly the week before. West Coast's turn next week I suppose. Long season ahead!

My family and I have had a serious family discussion this evening and as a family we've taken the difficult decision to withdraw our 7 and 9 year olds from the Lions members coaching clinic at the Gabba. At this stage in their football development we feel that the children need to be around people with the kind of football skills and nous that is more likely to lead to their long-term success in the game.

Was not going to be suckered in to post here but...

You cannot be serious???

Forget your role models for coaching - on behalf of your kids, get some help on parenting, please.

The most frustrating play of the game for me was when we botched what should have been an easy kick and mark, and then Stefan Martin tapped it to Richmond instead of letting it go out of bounds. Richmond gets the goal from turnover.

And then two more quick goals from the centre square.

Although it didn't show at times on Saturday night, but every single player that lined up for us has exceptional skills and would be able to teach your kids just about anything. Every bloke that wears our jumper is a fantastic footballer, it's just some are not good enough to perform at such a high level and intensity all the time, particularly when they are young.

Poor move, in the end it's your kids who need to learn to play football, the Lions players can, and they are damn good when compared to 99.99% of the population.

And also Paparone is a ******* joke.

Paparone is trying hard but not being played in the right spot. Upgrade Bourke and leave Paparone on wing or at least third tall in defense.

Lose a bet too?

What I don't understand is why we took on 3 more midfielders in the off-season (Beams, Christenson, Robertson), when we have a reasonable midfield, but lack quality down the spine, i.e. Full-forward, Centre-half forward, Centre-half back and Full-back. Just filling two of these spots would be a massive boost. Even my 12 year-old son asked me what Brisbane were thinking of with their recruitment?

Why are we playing Rich in defence when he is one of the best midfielders around?

Beams has been racking up disposals, but effectiveness is lacking significantly. Christenson probably the pick. Robertson just keeps slipping over.

After 18 years membership, not too many more trips down from Nambour planned before we bail out. Note, we were members before the 'glory years'.

Brisbane will be playing opposition sides into form all year.

Also wondered what the stats are on games won in the red strip? Fitzroy started out as the Maroons and then were the Gorillas up until around 1954, then changed to the Lions, but continued to wear a maroon jersey.
Given that maroon is a Queensland colour in numerous sports and was the original Fitzroy colour why the board panders to disenchanted Victorians by wearing the red jersey in Victoria is beyond me, particularly given the Fitzroy jersey changed to this colour only in latter years. Give it the flick!!!

He has zero awareness. Wouldn't matter where you put him.

Mitch Robinson - 14 Disposals @ 64% Efficiency with 6 clangers. (Also 3 frees against).

I know he tackles well, but can we really afford to have someone in the side that gives it back to the opposition so frequently?

Can we see stats on the bottom 11 players from that game? Where does his performance really put him, relatively?

At least we will get the #1 draft pick this year.

Though that draft pick will return home in 2018

Don't have time to go through 11 players but here are others below him in turns of DE:

Staker - 4 possessions, 4 clangers, 0% DE
Stef Martin - 20 possessions, 6 clangers, 45% DE
James Aish - 21 possessions, 5 Clangers, 52.4% DE
Marco Paparone - 20 Possessions, 3 clangers 60% DE
Mitch Robinson - 14 Possessions, 6 clangers 64% DE

Problem with Mitch being his clangers make up appox 50% of his total possessions - Giving the ball straight back to the opposition almost every 2nd time he gets the ball.

Add the 3 frees against, 1 for and more than 50% of the time he registers a stat the outcome is that the opposition gets the ball.

Yeah I see that he had a bad game, but if you just look at stats, it appears Aish and Martin had a rough night as well - and they did.

Particularly, not a whole lot (again looking at just stats) different between Robinson and Martin on the night. Pretty sure Stef gave a few away too.

DE is certainly a team wide problem and not just Mitch.

His 14 disposals with 6 clangers does stand out a lot more than 21 with 5 clangers or 20 with 6.

Difficult to justify a spot in the team when you register 6 clangers, 3 frees against for a total of 14 disposals and 3 tackles I would think.

Clangers include frees against. It doesn't excuse the situation, but it does mean you shouldn't count them twice.
