Very happy with those changes. Stewart maybe unlucky but he'll have many more chances in the future and it will be nice to have Whitey back, hopefully he can make an impact.
Having Brand back helps enormously with the team structure as a whole. Hopefully means Gunston won't have to spend as much time behind the ball and can start hitting the scoreboard

Finally a strong, tall defender who can mark & run! Yeah. Go Brand

Also loving the addition of WX to the team, cannot understand why he had been out in the first place.

Good to see they stuck with Miles and sad for Stewart although thankfully wont be the last we see of him.

Now all we need is a big tall built like a brick outhouse ruckman. Emphasis on above 202cm and stands and plays tall, I personally would be very happy.

Stewart stiff, i reckon this would've been the game for him in greasy conditions on the gold coast. Having said that, our line up looks better each week. Having Brand in will strengthen the backline and should make it easier to stop Lynch and 2 Meter Peter. White X gives the side some experience and poise that we have been needing (not to mention he is a queenslander). Very confident now. Hawks by 42

This Litherland you speak of - is he the one who no other club picked up as a delisted free agent or in the rookie draft? Crazy that we let him go!

That means nothing. How many clubs would have touched Gibson if he had been delisted. I doubt Subiaco would have been chasing Gibson either with a lucrative contract.

How a player can have such an extended run of producing complete crap is incomprehensible. If Litherland had been given a reasonable number of opportunities, which he should have got last season given the form of Gibson and Duryea, I think he would still be on the list.

Whilst, Litherland was a player with limitations, you knew what you got from him. He ran straight at the ball and knocked over opponents; was versatile being able to play tall and small; he had good leg-speed which he used to take the game on; he could have resolved a number of the backline issues the club is currently experiencing; and for mine his kicking was fine. It was no worse than Gibson's or Duryea's kicking who are both one-sided and rabbits in the headlights when the pressure is on. The same posters that point out Gus's kicking deficiencies also like to bring this cliche out for Will Langford, without watching how his kicking is going. There is nothing wrong with Langford's kicking action; what he does have is a problem making the right decisions on occasions.

There was a reason why Sam Mitchell stated that there were players that should have been further up the list in having their football career at Hawthorn brought to an end.

I like Stewart but his big downfall is his inability to accumulate enough possessions. As a midfielder/forward he needs to average at least 18 + possessions a game, don't think he is anywhere near that level at the moment.

Love the fact that Sicily and Hartung have to really fight for their positions now, gonna either make or break them

I can't believe you guys are having a go at Gibbo seriously.
He has bled for the jumper over the years and one of the lynchpins in defense.
He has played tall and small and put his body on the line.
The 10+ years of hard knocks takes it out of you and he is paying the price now.
I still think he has value if he isn't the primary defender similar to fletcher and scarlett in their latter years,
He has all that experience he can pass on to our younger defenders in Burton and Sic.

How do you think he has been going since round 2, 2016.

Did he bleed anymore than Sam Mitchell and Jordan Lewis? No player has a right to a place in the starting 22, let alone a player that hasn't performed for such an extended period as Gibson.

The club is always number one, individuals will come and go. Whilst, they are at the club the players get the very best, along with the big pay packets. Ultimately, though every player has a finite playing career.

It would appear in Gibson's case this has been mis-judged by both the player and the club's football staff.

Are you going to post this every week?

i do agree with Gibbo been the one tapped on the shoulder before Lewis or Sammy but most supporters here actually DO! and yes, you are correct that Gibbo's last 15 or so games have been underwhelming and I believe 90% of supporters knew this before a ball was kicked this year. But you seem to be way over the top with the vitriol and pent up angst you have towards :
a) the club's decision of Gibbo over the other two champs
b) Gibbo's average performances
there are 20 games to go so lets back Gibbo and Clarko in.

I love your enthusiasm! Need more of that around here :thumbsu: Really looking forward to how our boys respond this week, hoping for a gutsy hard fought win (preferably a thrashing though) :D

People have a short memory. Hawthorn played its best football with Brand in the side last year. The club has been idling while he was out, and Gibson has had to fill the breach once more. Grant Birchall has been in a rut too. Is he finished? Opposition teams have tagged both he and Gibson, because we have been so reliant on distribution from half back, due to our historically poor clearance rate. That is why you see Chip Frawley left to his own devices with ball in hand so often.

It is incumbent on the rest of the backline, Burton being a prime example last week, to take the initiative and run off their men and make the play. With Birchall out, how much attention will Luke Hodge see this week? The team balance is improving, hopefully that equates to a winning side this week.

Don't really buy that goldies will bounce back harder than us. Surely we are prouder

And if they have rifts inside. They fight each other as much as opponents

Is your name Angus? Or are you related to someone named Litherland?

It's got me stuffed why people want our old heads to be dumped from the team...

10 months ago, when we sat on top of the ladder our our side was being lauded as "having the best set of onfield assistant coaches in the comp", and now our supporters want to see them play out the year at Box Hill, while we let youngsters come in and get torched with no support.

You don't dump your leaders to Box Hill, and send the lambs to the slaughter if you don't have to.

Most other clubs don't get to regen their squad with such support, they go to the draft wholly and solely and with not much else on the list end up sending their kids out to get smacked around(Lions, Blues) without much guidance or protection.

Gibson, Hodge, Burgoyne...all a luxury for our youngsters to learn from each week.

Compare Litherland's and Gibson's ages and get back to me on the recruitment if delisted front. Stupid comparison.
