Game Day Round 3, 2017: Gold Coast Suns v Hawthorn

Our midfield is being beaten. Our ruckmen are traffic cones. We look slow while Gold Coast look fast.

Our small forwards are unable to get into the game. Our tall forwards are unable to take anything resembling a mark. Our Forwardline is a mess and no player looks like they want to stand up.

Our backline is forced to bomb it long because of the way Gold Coast set up. Our backline looks flustered when the ball is sent into the backline. Our backline is generating no run.

Gold Coast look like this game means something to them and are running hard. Our players look like all this game means is a pay check.

Is there a single positive from this game up till half time? Maybe Brand limiting their tall forwards. Maybe Hodge's efforts. Definitely no serious injury to Burton.

Apart from that this was the worst half of football I've ever seen us play. And I'm not even exaggerating.

Expectations of this supporter group are always high, but they may need to be revisited by a few who expect us to compete well with the top sides(myself included) as we currently seem like we'll choose when we want to be interested.

Agree. I would rather not even play a Ruckman. Drop McAvoy and Vickery and play 2 more runners. Worst ruck combo I have ever seen.

Thing that stands out to me is that there is no plan by our mids to win first use at the ruck contests.
Not one player tries to read either our ruck or theirs and get front position, on the move, to head it our way. It needs reflexes and belief and traning.
All of them stand static, hoping it falls into their lap.

I've seen it this bad for a couple years now, but we've always thrown Burgs when desperate, Hodge when desperate, to create momentum and Mitch and Lewy have at least dived to create contests.

This new crew look clueless.

Our mids coach should be sacked. Fair dinkum.
I don't see a single ruck contest where there is an attempt to palm it to a particular spot evidenced by a player moving to that position. Even if we lost every ruck, the vagaries of the odds would have one of our blokes in the right place every now and then.

Hard to watch.

The finger should be pointed fairly and squarely at the middle tier, i love cyril but fair dinkum he is not interested at all atm, has had an average start to the year as well. Seems content with his career from what im seeing just cruising around not having an impact. Shiels is supposed to be stepping up in mitchell and lewis's absense, he is a good ordinary footballer when given responsibility and thats about it. Reality check to were we are at right now, geelong will spank us next week and will rub our noses in it as well. Play the kids ffs.

That, and we have no quality half back flankers outside of Birch.

I don't see it I'm afraid, his disposal is terrible.

Still hoping for a frustrating win.

Beaten all over the ground. Lack of leg speed is seriously worrying. Gunston needs to be put back forward.
At least Burton and Hodge have been good but other than that this half has been a disaster.
