:think:Who is/was more enigmatic Joe Daniher or Jared Brennan?

Damn, that's a tough one. Probably go with Brennan just. Spent the better part of a decade thinking "THIS is his year" every pre-season.

Not so worried about Joe. He's still getting 4 shots on goal a game. Joe out of form is a lot better than Hippy out of form
Need to get the ball in quick to Joe.
Slow ball movement and he has no chance because he is more likely to give away a free kick than kick a goal.

Damming footgae of our fwd line and in particular Hipwood on the First Crack. Kane Cornes also showed horrid footage of our fwd line on teh footy show clips i saw.

I hope the coaches show this sort of footage b/c it is evident that Hipwwod doesnt know how to play as a key position fwd. Hasn't he played around 130 odd games?

Im starting to come around that Hipwood needs to find a new position or down back - even further they think we need a new key - what a shame we just gave one away and with next to no currency, its not like we are getting 1 anytime soon.
Vid in this link shows the segment showing how Hippy is constantly in no mans land.

That looks to me as though it has been a directive to play that role.
The problem that I see is that it should have been Lincoln McCarthy out there to run back in and get front and centre if the ball hits the ground not Hippy.
Reverse the roles and put a small out there and the structure looks fine.
Can’t see how that is Hippy’s fault other than that he needs to get back a bit quicker rather than just labouring in.

2 examples? These videos are bloody pointless

First one looked reasonable drawing his opponent away but slow movement meant we couldn't capitalise. Second looked a bit worse he perhaps should've realised his role then was to crash a pack and set it up for the smalls

Wonder what it would look like if they analysed his finals game against Melbourne last year

I dont agree and agree with the experts who are clearly showing where Hippy should be going or leading to. Even worse if that is the directive of the coaches to be redundant in the fwd line.

No doubt a lot better, but that was over 6 months ago

It looks to me as though it is to clear space for others which is fine but it is just the wrong player.

Clearly the point being that our fwd line isnt working - 7 goals on a quick deck should say it s not. Further 2 gaols from Hippy is pretty poor for one of our KPF that we are relying on

How was our ball movement off half back? How many times did we handball our way out of stoppages to get an unpressured kick inside 50? How many times did we perfectly weight the kick to a teammates advantage?

It didn't work but it's a lot more complex than 2 examples of Hipwood not getting to a dangerous spot on the lead and we still had more scoring shots

You may also find that if the tape was checked further you might find that on other occasions it may have been Gunston out there or Charlie or Linc or Daniher?
Looks to me as though they are just trying to find faults in a particular players game just for the sake of their argument.

Don't get me wrong, I'd drop Hipwood this week but that video and in general the Joe and Kingy talk is just reactionary rubbish.

Champion data fed Kingy the stat that Hipwood is their lowest rated 100 game player 2 weeks ago, so he'll be banging on about it for another few weeks until he gets a new drop of talking points.

Or until he kicks 5or 6 in a game.
And then he’ll be talking him up.

Having read the article now I think the bit I'm most offended by is their commetns on the defence. To me the problem on Thursday was the total absence of dare and risk in ball movement, and our players were overly concerned with helping out in team defence and then were unwilling or unable to run hard in attack, not that Joyce and Payne were being beaten by their forwards.

Joyce and Payne have been fine enough from a defensive point of view, but they present big issues in terms of their ball use right now. I don't mean in terms of making mistakes (although they have, but so have others), but in terms of speed of decision-making and willingness to bite off difficult kicks. Too often we ended up with one of them with the ball having to make the call to quickly kick in board to the corridor or switch, and they don't have the skill or the willingness to do it consistently. We needed to get better ball users ready to take a quick handball from them more often.

After ranking 1st for scoring from chains started in D50 last year we are now bottom (only 3 rounds so a fair bit to play out, but not a good starting spot). We have to find a way to transition the ball more rapidly whilst still continuing to correct our defensive system and helping out the back 6.

We have too many players run forward of the ball in those situations leaving no one left to run from behind.

I agree normally but that was not the problem Thursday night. There was a lack of willigness to run forward or progress the ball forward with speed - defensive running from the mids and backs was actually ok for the most part.

Don't know about that, but I'd prefer to watch Brennan.

Those go go gadget arms and Gumby impersonations were awesome to watch.
90% of my all time highlights from watching the Lions are Jared.

That is a huge worry, although still a small sample size the good sides this season are playing gut running, quick play on, running past receiving handballs, running in waves footy.

After his first game I thought we had a hall of famer, 5x AA on our hands.
