The Hawks play the Cats in a "curtain raiser" to the AFL game between Hawthorn and Geelong in the afternoon at the MCG. The Hawks won their first match of the season over the Swans up in Sydney, then cooled their heels with a bye last weekend.
The Cats have started the season with one win and one loss, having beaten Carlton by 16 points in the opening game of the 2023 VFL season a couple of Fridays ago. However, the Cats were steamrolled by the Suns in the curtain raiser to the Suns-Geelong AFL game last Sunday, losing by 107 points, 28.14.182 to 11.9.75. Highly drafted key defender, Mac Andrew, had a field day for the Suns down back, having 17 disposals (including 15 kicks) and taking 13 marks in defence for the Suns, while Chris Burgess
torched the Cats with five goals.
Unsurprisingly, given the final score, the Suns jumped out to an early lead and were never challenged by the Cats, with the Suns leading 9.3.57 to 3.1.19 at quarter time, 15.5.95 to 8.5.53 at half-time, 22.8.140 to 10.8.68 at three quarter time and then blowing it out to a 100+ win by full-time.
Teams and coverage details to come (although the game can be streamed through the AFL website).
