The VFL takes a week off to participate in a match pitting the VFL State Team against the SANFL on Saturday, 6 April 2024 at Glenelg's Stratarama Stadium. Box Hill Hawks utility Callum Brown has been named as a vice-captain for the VFL State Team, while Box Hill Hawks coach Zane Littlejohn has been given the honour of coaching the VFL State Team, with Steve Daniel (Southport), Ben Hudson
(Brisbane Lions) and Adam Skrobalak (Port Melbourne) named as assistant coaches.
Brown is the only Box Hill Hawk player named in the 23, although former Hawthorn listed player Ned Long (now with the Collingwood VFL team) also is in the 23 named by the VFL. Callum Porter
is an emergency for the game.
Once the State game is done and dusted, attention will turn back to the VFL, where the Hawks will play their third consecutive away game to open the season. This time, they will make the trek up to the Gold Coast to play the Suns, who have only played one game to start the season (for a loss to the Tigers back on 23 March by 23 points). Meanwhile, the Hawks have got off to a winning start to the season, having defeated the Casey Demons by 41 points in round 1 and the Cats by 38 points in round 2.
Teams to come.
