Is it worth bringing in Goldstein as the sub? To use as a bench coach for the younger players. Hawthorn has used it previously with older players as the sub - ideally, it would be more of a utility-type player, but we are not blessed with many of them. Maybe consider it in a few weeks when the season is completely shot, and we shift to a development focussed year.

He would have better footskills off the halfback flank than McGrath and Shiel so can't see why not.

Yeh I don’t think that’s a wise move

Are we dropping Draper or Bryan in this scenario?

Otherwise if we have an early injury we are running with 3 rucks for the entire game.

The basis would be the senior team is playing like Scheissen. El-Hawli had solid form leading at the back end of last year, although not so much currently. There are few options to replace senior players who are NOT defending and deserve to be dropped.
Having said that, I think we won't see many dropped as the players in the VFL just aren't demanding a game yet (excluding Hayes)

You’re suggesting we replace an out of form player in the AFL with a player who is not performing in the VFL! Staggering logic.

IF we are playing a debutante then you'd think it would be either Saad El-Hawli, Zak Johnson or Angus Clarke.

Johnson been very good in his two games and whilst his aerobic capacity will be a work in progress, has the size (186cm/78kg) and will play in a position we desperately need some better foot skills in.

Saad El-Hawli has runs on the board and can play in a variety of positions. Did only play half the (VFL) game on the weekend so must be in contention.

Clarke the wildcard, skills very good and has size (188cm/86kg) that will hold him in good stead.

Would not be disappointed if any or even multiples debuted.

Hayes stat line was good but as eth-dog mentioned in the VFL thread, seemed to trail a fair bit. His stats padded by the chip, chip in the back half as well. Still, wouldn't surprise me if we did pull this one either.

It's Johnson for me.

From everything I have read he is exactly what we need.

agreed, seems to have the best runs on the board in 2025. El-Hawli needs to play at some point though, no point taking a 25 year old and not seeing what he can do at the top level, even more so when his runs at the lower level are decent enough

2023 Round 23 GWS 126 points
2015 Round 20 Adelaide 112 points
2015 Round 14 St Kilda 110 points
2016 Round 12 Hawthorn 108 points
2019 Round 21 Western Bulldogs 104 points

Fun fact. they are 1/3 of the 100 point losses we have suffered as a club.

I'd say ADW the most likely to play

If he would come in to play sub, it wouldn't be on performance (VFL performance). If we go full rebuild (you never go full rebuild) he would be to be another bench coach.
As the youngest team in the comp, I'm wondering if there is a way to explore using the sub as another bench coach - as Hawthorn have been able to use it effectively.

Yes, I think this is an excellent idea.

Out: Tsatas, Perkins, Shiel
In: Hayes, Ridley, Goldstein

Goldy can replace Shiel on-field.
