Autopsy Round 4, 2019: St.Kilda v Hawthorn *BLUE RIBBON CUP*

Great win by the boys. Their effort this year is great to see. Ross was great today, and i'm starting to see Billings show some good signs. He was level headed and reliable today. Marshall is having a solid year so far.

Kent needs to improve to keep his spot

I concur with all the comments about our obvious good players.

On a different subject, we partly beat Hawthorn doing what they did several years ago, and that was having a whole host of left footers. Great to see us using Wilkie, Webster, Billings and Ross together to release the ball down the left hand flank/wing.

Was so sick of hearing Hodge talk about Hawthorn players, but in the last qtr he mentioned that players from sides that had played us had been speaking about how we are playing as a team.

Just need to keep developing together, but the young nucleus of our side is stepping forward. Clark will continue to be a part of that as well. Great experience today getting battered in tight. Wasn't one of our best, but battled away, and this game was as good as several games of development.

By the way, shut the door on the way out Kent - nothing personal.

Lonie 3 votes. Just absolutely awesome today.
Lonie was as Strong In The Contest as it gets and hopefully Richo mentions it.

Billings was great, he might have made a wise choice waiting until his performance improves before signing a new contract.
Ross. Being captain suited him. He was huge.

Sinclair did a lot of good things. Long - great having him back. Has an X factor we've been lacking for quite a while.
Parker showed again why he deserves to be in the side. Some big tackles and just has enormous pressure.

The not so good:
Membrey might as well have had the day off. Bruce didn't do much. Gresham wasn't there, Brown had a shocker and Kent needs to be dropped.

All things considered - that was a huge win.

Great analysis. I’d just add that Acres played his best game in quite a while. Has a weird knack of pulling off the impossible and certain makes our midfield more dynamic than Dunstan does.

AFL can EAD.
Umpiring can EAD.
Hawthorn can E many AD and emulate Carlton some more.

I said it during the thread, the parallels between our game and the GCS v Carlton game was eerie, there you had a team, trying their best to score but onyl managing to score a few times and not really lead by much so the other mob always had a chance to come back and hey presto, we both did.

That game was rather shit, some good highlights, some players stood up, but if that is where we ant to be and where we are headed as a game it's a shit experience.

Membrey had a mare despite having a couple of moments, Kent can piss off to Ireland, I'm liking that Billings has some confidence to actually take the game on and by more physical, Lonie is probably our smartest forward and I'm still banking on Ross being a decent mid with Steele that we can wrap silk around. Roma continues to grow and impress but similarly was very worried about Battle this match.

We need to get much better, we need to continue to grow and we need to find someone like Parker who takes that leap into the goal square, rises 3 high and clunks that mark or kicks that bag or we will get nowhere and do nothing.

We’re actually literally hurting the opposition and we haven’t done that for a long time.
Whoever plays our opposition the week after us just get it that wee bit easier.
And Kent will not get dropped next week and neither should he.

Geeeez, what a game!
This is what we as supporters have been waiting for.
The emergence of our younger players to become consistent contributors each week.
Take a bow
Jack Lonie, Jack Billings, Rowan Marshall, Blake Acres, Jack Sinclair, Callum Wilkie and Jade Greshem.
These lads were huge.
The belief is there. I thought we were out on our feet in that last quarter but we found a way to win. Great persistence.
Bravo St kilda

Wilkie has been enormous in the absence of Carlisle and Roberton.

What a finddddd we have in him, just does what he needs to do every week, undersized, inexperienced, was absolutely massive today.
He may never have played a single game with those two available. Talk about grabbing your opportunity and making it count!
