Apart from the umpiring, there are a couple of glaring deficiencies that I have noticed.

1. The clearances are 21-8 Port’s way. Yeah we generally lose clearances, but this is a pretty crap differential if you ask me. We need support for Nankervis in our side moving forward (like Soldo was in previous years), whether it is CCJ or Samson Ryan.

That’s the major thing that we need to fix today if we want to win (and if we’re able to that is).

2. Our contested marking is almost non-existent today. One contested mark for the whole half isn’t enough given how many times we kick to the contests. We’re also down by 23 contested possessions so there is no point in continuing with kicking to contests. Short kicks is probably going to be the way to win against Port while we have Vlastuin and Prestia out.

3. Our tackling is woeful. Port have more of the ball yet we’ve laid less tackles? 19 is what some get in a quarter, not a half. Needs to improve by a lot more

Afl is the hardest game in the world to umpire imo.
You have to constantly make judgmental decisions and also run 15km.

It would help if they didn't keep making so many stupid rules that are open to interpretation.

From memory - two legit goals from our mistakes (debutants) - the rest are from free kicks. The most lop sided and cheated half I've seen since 1979. The umps are doing EVERYTHING they can for Port, but Port are so crap that they can't kick straight.

Lynch has been atrocious. for a big man on big $, he should be dropped unless he finds 3-4 goals this half.

Not fussed if Lynch kicks goal but agree his endeavour seems woeful compared to Dixon up the other end

I don't see how we win this. A couple of these guys aren't ready and we're effectively carrying them, and they're getting a total ride from the umps. Frees 13-6. If this were fair dinkum it would be around 6 square a piece.

Unless DeBoy is medically subbed, we can't win - even if Port are inaccurate for the rest of the game.

Umpiring is rooted and has been heavily skewed in favour of one team in just about every game. Reckon you guys got a raw deal last night too.

I'm a bit amazed how often we are kicking to contests and how often Port are first to the fall of the ball.

If we're going to kick it long to a contest we need to do more with the ball when it comes to ground.

As it is, it's just rebounding back in.
