IN the case of McLennan and Allison, it's probably "we expect it to be the whole season, but may manage to get themselves back for the last 2-4 weeks, we don't want to commit to it".

With Jones and McKenzie, I'd wager it's about "when can the muscle meet certain loading requirements + a short "preseason" block", which you wouldn't want to put a hard time on given they are recurrent injuries.

Essendon had some patches for sure but I thought an equal contributor to the game tightening up was decent periods where we fell down at half forward. Especially in second and third quarters we rebounded too quickly for our zone it seemed and had essentially nothing in front, which often becomes a difficult play to score from as you tread water waiting for options, but their defence folds back too. Not a criticism at all, just a trend that unfolded for a while there. Whereas the early and late blitzes we put on, we had our smalls in particular ready to pounce!

Apologies wrong thread, I can’t copy the article & haven’t seen this elsewhere BUT small interesting article in the Age interviewing Sincs who spoke about how the back 6 are building trust and how RTB has simplified the team defence. All the good teams have a settled back 6/7.

Although not mentioned, I reckon Corey Enright and RTB would be like 2 peas in a pod & loving working together!

Team defence is a RTB trademark & will remain, but watch out once we get some key forwards and midfielders back which will give us more flexibility with Owens, Pou etc - I think you will see a significant increase in our scoring which will really worry a lot of teams as we will build leads they can’t chase down!
