My guess is that they can't bank on Crouch yet. As for Ross, he is there for structure, like a mid version of Zaine Cordy.

I don't think that there would be a question about whether he wasn't amount the best two mids we had in '23. He played against the Suns twice last year for 34 and 28 disposals, so I doubt it is a match up thing.

I'm genuinely surprised Bonner survived the cut, and Butler/Ross must be considering themselves lucky.

Who are Sandy playing this week, pretty excited to watch the further development of the U24s again.

How many teams play a midfielder who doesn't get the ball or stop the opposition from getting the ball for "structure"?

Fair question, but it looks like a Ross move and resonates so much with Zaine Cordy selections so far. Somehow, Ross (as in Seb) offers something to the mechanics of the whole thing, like a tiny washer between a spring and a nut, that allows the clock to tick…
It does seem kinda odd that Seb gets a handful of touches and survives. He is an incredible survivor that way. I thought he would have been let go years ago. But ‘22 and ‘23, does just enough to survive.

The only alternative theory I can think of is some contract shenanigans-conspiracy theory, and I hope I ain’t thinking about them things anymore!, silliness.

I am trying to stay sensible.

Joke , he has been a liability - structure / well you can see our weakest link has been the midfield and he has been one of the reasons we are under achieving - for sure he has been a club champion , but clearly he is not up to standard in today's game.

He was needed for sure due to the lack of experience we had in the midfield due to the injuries , but now having Clark , Dow and now Crouch - really he should be pushed out of the side.
To me he is still to good to dis-guard and I would make him the sub / he is above the VFL but he just is not up to the best AFL mids and would be a very handy sub.

Club Champion , good guy and they are finding hard to tell him he is not good enough.
Tough call for a guy who is in the last year of his contract , most probably wanting a extension---- so being dropped now would basically finish his career.

Offering something like mechanics , well we need a far better part.

Or... the coaching group are dickheads

I reckon they are still not 100% convinced on Crouch's match fitness. That was the vibe from RTB's press conference.

We can't afford to carry too many slower inside blokes and they need to be cherry ripe when they come in. Based on the VFL, Crouch is still not quite there. Harder to change a team off a good win too. Ross gets a last chance to hold his place in the side.

Crouch getting 30+ touches in a couple VFL games is more than enough to show he is ready to go - they just can't have Seb Ross and Crouch in the same team - IMO Crouch should be straight back into the team.

Can only assume they want to wait on Crouch until he's truly 100%, as we cost him half a season by rushing him back. Even without him, we are a way better midfield with Clark and Dow. I will readily admit I have never given up on Clark after seeing what he was doing in 2020/21 before his first major injury, and I still think he provides a point of difference with his creativity in close. Will be keen to see how we go against the super talented midfield from GC.

I hope Clark shows what he is capable of , we need him too.

He has elite poise and decision making, but I feel he's kind of sacrificed that to be a contested ball winner and extractor in the last couple of seasons. Not saying he's anywhere nearly Pendles obviously but he has shown that ability to slow the game down to his pace. I hope he can get that confidence back, he had moments against West Coast where he displayed his full talent outside of the contest stuff.

Pretty obvious that Crouch's knee is an issue as far as seeing out game at senior level- ok at VFL level with less physical intensity, so they are taking no risks.

It's just so unfortunate he's no good at AFL level.
The mysteries of life.

1.Why do I keep finding crumbs in the cutlery draw, even though everything I put in there is clean

2. Why do I keep putting money on the Saints when they are heavy favourites, even though I know they will probably shit the bed.
3. Why do I keep reading Cairnsman's posts, even though I know they will somehow pot Sharman.

On another topic, I'm keen to start a new group called "meet thy maker"
Schoenmaker that is. RTB get him into the team somehow. Last week one of his kickouts reached the wing, and he can pass the ball 50m without issue. He has to get a run before the end of the season. Surely!

Crouch was pretty gassed in the last quarter of the Sandy game last week. Still got it a few times, but was laboring to stoppages. Borderline at worst.
