Not great. How the defence can let that many open players and easy goals through is beyond me. Poor discipline.
Q prob the most overrated player in the competition. Could actually be dropped with the 2nds defenders playing well.

Experienced players like Adams and Crisp just not smart players, so are always a liability to be exposed. Nick and pendles showing all the other established players how to actually handle pressure and display consistency
Agree. Our defence was in disarray. I think except for Frampton and Maynard, every one else took things easy and was not accountable. Even Moore was giving too much space to their forwards ending up in many uncontested marks. Not enough effort as we have been used to. Hopefully it's only one off day.

As part of our journey at winning a flag this year. We can have around 5 losses in the H&A season and an away game against Brisbane is one of them that is easier to take.
I'm encouraged that our scoring shots and I50s were higher.
Our difference in scoring accuracy was definitely because of the midfield contest. We lacked the defensive pressure after quarter time and polish in ball movement. Maybe back to back 6 day breaks, the ruck issue, the crisp distraction, broke the conhesion of the group. While Brisbane were motivated being the underdog and at home. This overpowering from Brisbane meant they could enter 50 quick and cleanly, and kick over the top of our pressing back men for Cameron and Rayner to run forward for easy close range scoring opportunities.
On a different day, with our group motivated and structured properly. Brisbane would have had their shots at goal further out or not as often.
They were only missing Rich, and if we meet again at the G. There's more upswing for us next time

Whilst I am disappointed with the loss, i took positives away from the game.
We were disorganized, that second qtr with the free kicks out of centre was a debacle but easily fixed and learn from it.
Lack of ruck and height in around the ground caused issues. Not alot we can do but try different things until troops arrive.
We have proved we can match it with anyone and we will get our structure back in a few weeks.
It is a long season and we will be there in September when it matters, so a couple of losses whilst we try to find the best way around our ruck stock problems, i can take.

Also another positive is Ash Johnson.
I think he is going to be a player of some merit, very athletic, good size and kick.
I just think Buddy, though with good hands overhead.

Things just didn't work for players like Jaicos, Crisp, Sidebottom and IQ. I back them to be back to being very good players. We can all have off nights. It feels like 10-15 years ago all the best teams had 5 or 6 bad games a year. Doesn't seem as many these days, but there are definitely some.

If we were to play finals now, we would not win it all. We have far too big a weakness, because taking Cameron and Cox affects both midfield and forward and we really seemed worried kicking long to a contest.

Fortunately we have guys like Howe, Cox, Cameron and Lipinski out who could come back and assist.

We lost a lot of crucial contests where Brisbane kind of gambled they would win and get it forward and they were through our defence. However, on another night we win those and we are in the other way. You play high velocity footy it is sometimes gonna backfire.
Geez we now mark Jaicos hard and high. Still had 23 disposals at just below 80% efficiency. Again over 450 metres gained, 7 score involvements, 4 I50. Only Nick Daicos 38 touches, Pendles / Ashcroft 26 touches , Maynard / Dunkley 25 touches had more of the ball. I thought he was solid and steady for the bulk of the game.

McStay & Ash don't have the tanks to ruck and hold formation like Cameron and Cox. Our system and structures are always going to be stretched and tested by all sides until we can at least get Coxy back.

I thought we didn't adjust after their obvious plan (after qrt time) was to hit all ruck contest to the outside or long. We were caught flat footed while they were able to gain advantage on the outside clearances. Hopefully Fly can make the necessary adjustments everytime oppositions combat our sharking tactics. We are a good team with a solid foundation so we need to hang strong until we get some reinforcements. Hopefully Freddy comes in to fix the forward target and when Cox returns we will be motoring again.

Another Big shout out to Checkers. Love the guy xxx
Blokes have won Brownlows roving to a losing ruck.

I didnt get to watch the match, but from the highlights it looked like they won based on system rather than execution - which is a bit of a concern. They seemed to have an effective tactic of winning in the contest and breaking out of packs and getting out the back once we had run forward. Is this a fair assessment? IF so, it will be up to the coaches to tweak our positioning and movement a little. Not simply an off night as people are saying.

That was always my frustration with Grundy. He seemed to have some aversion to smashing the ball long to our advantage. Oscar did it and constantly had us on the back foot.

Shows our game IS flawed, you can't outnumber inside and out at every contest in every game and expect to sustain it, our intensity dropped from the 2nd qtr.

Had an inkling in the first 3 rounds that we couldn't keep that standard up. We need that standard at the right time of the season and all good, if not window closed.

Despite the end score line, you guys looked the better side for most of the night. The kamikaze style football is enthralling to watch, it’s like watching Rocky with a sherrin.

Manic, both can be true. I'd rephrase: we didn't execute our game plan and missing Howe is a part of the reason.
I thought it was more a case of our handballs through the midfield missing their target or being intercepted by Brissy. With our game plan, if we don't do those things well, we get smashed on the turnover and scored against easily. No defence can stop that

This game wasn't a disaster!

McRae said it: we created enough opportunities.

We created enough chances to win, but we were inaccurate. We need to fix that up.
Many of our shots on goal were from some distance out and therefore highly miss-able. Brisbane on the other hand scored many of their goals by running rings around our last line of defence and goaling from close to goal. The opportunities we created were far less gettable than theirs.

Coming off the long run here.

Games like this we expose our front runners or downhill skiers in the team.

If we had depth in the 2's IQ should be dropped with the game he played, he was fantastic at being in the wrong place at the right time!

Secondly: our smalls are timid bunch of players, IQ, Noble, Sidebottom, Crisp, Daicos x 2 first reaction is always to stand back in a contest. Need to be better than that!

Thirdly: The "Globetrotter" style, pick and choose Pies it aint going to work all the time, when teams get a run on we need to slow it down and hold the ball and get *EN composed!!!

Fourthly: McCreerly experiment is over for now! no use running around like a headless chook hitting a few packs but picking up a handful of possessions

Fifthly: More goal practice, 2 misses at the start of second (would have put us 4 goals up) and Third back in it, put scoreboard presser on the oppo FFS!!!!

Not disgraced: Frampton, Maynard, Nacois, AJ, Hill, Checkers (3rd qtr only), Pendles, Murphy and Moore

In a nutshell, a lot more key wins in KPIs but and Lions had their GF which I expected so we move on but need to nail the Saints and good next week. PS play Steene couldn't be worse than what we dished up last night.

Footnote: Crisp was clearly rattled and should not have played!
Drunk so early in the day?
First 4 points are absurd overreactions, to a single game.
Your emotional and unhinged reactions in the game day threads,
have now morphed into the post game thread.

At least you understand you’re being completely unreasonable - “coming off the long run”

Interesting read this thread, very glass half full which I’m unaccustomed to on this board :D

To be brutal, I feel we were as far off the pace as Richmond were off us last week. Won’t be a popular opinion, but hey, that’s what the disabled dislike button is for 😂

Rarely is any small defender in a side's top 3 players. Q had an awful night tonight - no doubt about that, probably his worst game for us - but he's a very good defender and neutralises most contests and wins plenty. The rare horror night happens, but otherwise he's incredibly reliable. He's 23 and will play 250 games of mostly great football.
The review on the AFL website has IQ listed as one of our best players - must have been watching a different game.
He fumbled early and often, and by the second half he seemed to lose all confidence & looked like he didn't want to go near the ball.
It seems a good time to spell him in the VFL and give Ryan a gallop.

Was absolutely putrid.
