Quite a few to choose from this week:

  • Darling - great game, 24 possessions, clutch goal, laid tackles/good forward line pressure.
  • Jasper Pittard - really like the look of this kid. 25 poss at 80%
  • Hamish Hartlett - is he eligible? 22 possessions, was crucial in the second half.
  • Reece Conca - 23 possessions at 91% efficiency
  • Jayden Pitt - 24 possessions, didn't use it that well though
  • One of the GC boys - Mckenzie/Swallow/Smith
I'd go for Darling. Had the biggest impact of all those listed. Only downside, his team didn't win, which may bring Jasper Pittard into it.

If only Darling and Pittard played for Victorian teams were they could get some of the credit and publicity they deserve after cracking games..

As for the rising star this week, I'd have to say Pittard. Such an outstanding game from a a 3rd gamer in a showdown is pretty rare.

Darling will get his soon

Pittard, with only 4 games to his name, has been probably in our top 10 players so far this year. That says a lot about our start to the season, but also the workrate and effort that Pittard is putting in. He had a very good game against Adelaide and unless he really goes wrong, I can't see him losing his spot in the team. I think if he doesn't get it this week, he'll definitely get one some time this year.

I'd give it to Darling this week, personally. Sure, the side lost - but they were a wooden spoon team last year and they've really improved. One of the reasons for that is Darling - he's been sensational this year. I actually really wanted Port to grab him at 16, and spammed the hell out of the Port board about it, but with Ben Jacobs going down with glandular fever, we won't know for a while yet if we made the right decision! Darling's 2 goals should push him over the top for the nomination this week.

I can't vouch for Pittard's game but Jack Darling is going to be tough to beat. Looked great all day and has the tank to match his size, very dominant. He's had the sort of impact Jack Watts needs to have. Fantastic physique, good skills and chase.

Do not get this logic. Why would the AFL have to gift David Swallow a Rising Star nomination? Do you really think there is any chance he won't get one this year on his own merits?

IMO they'll want to do it as quickly as possible.

I watched darling put in yet another fantastic performance on the weekend. Will be tough to beat, especially considering how the panel likes players to prove themselves over a couple of games before getting nominated. He would have to be one of the best chase and tackle big men in the league, essentially he has the defensive pressure of a small forward but provides a tall option, he is a player to build a team around.

Chris Mayne is the best tallish defensive forward in the game, and the number one defensive forward in the game, also happens to kick goals.

Pittard was fantastic. Not sure Darling had that much of an impact with ball in hand. Presented well though no doubt.

Others to consider would be Zac Smith and David Swallow.

Forget Naitanui and Kruezer, Smith is something else.

That is a very big stretch.
Darling was very influential with the ball in hand. Set up a few shots on goal.

Biased obviously but I just re-watched the game and Darling was certainly one of the most influential players on the field, particularly in the 1st half. He looks like he's played 100 games, I just can't believe the confidence and composure he has having played so few games. He consistently used the ball well.

You really love your petty grudges don't you.

Good thing people are on the Fyfe bandwagon so you don't have to put up with them endlessly spruiking Hill.

As for Darling, he has played 4 games I expect Mayne to be better but not for too much longer.

He does well for his height and I believe Darling is a similar player though more versatile and has the capacity to work up the ground far more. Mayne will stay pigeonholed in that defensive/pinch hitting lead up forward role.

Anyway, both Kennedy and Dawes are better defensively than Mayne without his considerable limitations.

Sorry?

Good thing people are on the Fyfe bandwagon so you don't have to put up with them endlessly spruiking Hill.

This is irrelevant and stupid.

Mayne plays the role that is required. He's more than capable of pushing into the middle as evidenced from his time with the Perth Colts.

He's just extremely good at what he does.

Well, they are not.

Mayne is the number one defensive forward in the league.
