I feel for Hunter as he was thrown into the wolves with limited time in the system, but I'm a bit too scarred by both him and McKernan. I'd rather just go Carlisle for most of the game with chop outs from Battle if Marshall and Ryder are both unavailable.

Yes. Carlisle showed against Nic Nat why he is vastly better than Hunter for the ruck. Carlisle continually manage to position himself to fairly impede Nic Nat's run at the ball thereby giving Carlisle a good crack at winning the hit out, and at worst case making it harder for Nic Nat to tap the ball to advantage.

Whereas Hunter is pretty clueless on how to position himself.

Then in general play he is much better as well. Carlisle is a better ruck option than either Hunter or McKernan

Watching it again, Carlisle's second and third contested efforts were fantastic - better than Hunter or McKernan by far. If he can keep that up he's a lock for the side.

How is it a good sign?
No injury would be a good sign wouldn’t it? Pls explain to a pleb
The injury is one where it is more painful during the early stages of the injury or when it’s partially torn.

Once it’s fully torn, you just need the pain and swelling to subside and then it is tolerable to play on. The trouble is fully tearing it. (Search Rob Harvey as it is the injury made famous by him).

If you look on the first or second page, I have a comment quoting Dr Peter Larkins about it.

Tossed up between them but thought Carlisle and mckernan tag team was a better option.
Think I would prefer to bring in Wood or Joyce than give McKernan another one. He needs to show us something in the 2's before he comes back.
Send someone else into the ruck for short stints eg. Battle or Howard or either of the above mentioned players. Particularly if we can get Max doing the inside F50 ruck work.

It's going to be tough backing up that huge effort against West Coast off just a 5 day break, Richmond have the extra days break but they also had interstate travel so that at least helps to even it out.

The shorter break could even work in our favour if it helps us keep the momentum going from the West Coast win, a longer break and that momentum could evaporate.

I doubt they would go down that path though, I think they'd prefer to have a more versatile player as the sub like Long, Ryder would only be useful to replace a ruckman or a key forward.
Thing is we almost have the perfect sub playing in our best 22 in Battle. So no matter who we have as sub we can shuffle the decks a little and cover it.
Not that I want Battle as sub don't get me wrong.

My concern for Ryder as ruck as he would have very little time to 'warm-up' if he does go on and is at a greater risk of injury. Also what if we need him out there but no one is injured. If he is fit enough to be sub then we play him for the whole game

Anybody a social club (level 2 reserve) member not heading to the game tomorrow and can lend a barcode?

Will be indebted to you forever.

Go saints!

Going to need a crowbar if you do that :)

jokes aside, stoked by your win last week and looking forward to a good rematch from the finals. You guys will surely be hungry
Not actually suggesting they do it but fk me it was an ugly look for the AFL. Didn't even rate a report from the amazing supercalafragilistic Chrisso!

Would it put too much stress on our rotations if we played both Ryder and Marshall on very restricted minutes? Roughly 50% game time each so essentially when 1 is on the other is off? Ruck wise it would be awesome and would give both of them a good run to have them primed for Port

Who suggested Ryder as sub? Surely they were taking the piss. Couldn’t think of many worse sub ideas.

My biggest concern for Thursday is the toll that 4th quarter effort took on the guys with only a 5 day break.

That and having either Marshall or Ryder fit and available.

I agree. I don’t think you can use last season as a guide that short breaks don’t matter. Most sides had short breaks but also a shorter game last year. We really need to start well. That vital I think.

Did you watch the Port and Richmond game?
That was a physical contest with a lot of sore bodies that will be involved.
I don’t think the 5 day break will be the reason we lose this match.

Definitely not but given the physicality of the contests and appropriate recovery from them etc I think Richmond will be just as banged up as well. They have a six day break which is also pretty brutal especially coming up after another six day break.
