I don’t imagine that Gardiner will be suspended, but in the unlikely event he is, I would play Lester before Payne. We need a little more composure in defence at times and I think Lester’s football IQ would help us down back.

to reiterate, we are not anywhere close.

After a few years in the top 4, we are clearly just making up the numbers.

Skills again leave us wide open to any team. Generally our game play improves and stacks up but our defence and conversion in general play fails over and over.

Darcy Gardiner clearly is not up to the level, I don't need to give examples.

Generally our defence is a hope for the best outcome rather than a pressure based system, I don't know why we think this will stack up against the best.

Offence wise we seem to bank on numbers over skill. eg 100 inside 50's will give 100 points rather than 50 inside 50s with skill and execution will give less. This won't win premierships. again we are just making up the numbers.
I couldn't care how we did it. We won.

Maybe when we start coughing up games you can jump to a few conclusions then.

no, if we want to be the best and win flags this crap doesn't happen, we are ruthless, we win big, we are highly skilled, we take no prisoners. At the moment we could lose to anyone. it is what it is.

We are getting smashed in inside 50s this year apart from north, but winning with efficiency. The opposite of what you have said here.

I watched at a pub, can anyone confirm that was arguably the worst officiated game is living memory?

It was shocking. One umpire in particular just looked out of it and another umpire almost overcompensated to cover the bloke.

Melbourne lost to Adelaide last year and then we beat them by 9 goals a few weeks later. Did it matter? It's round 5 pal. Come back with these takes in 4 months and it may have some relevancy.
Absolutely. We're not playing great at this stage, didn't last year either. This year, we're getting the points on the board anyway. We need Melbourne-beating form from mid-August onwards moreso than now.

Melbourne only beat the suns by 13, struggled against the lowly Bulldogs and Bombers and got lucky against Port who had no forwards. Worst undefeated team in history!!!

Well lazy and poor I would describe that performance. Throw in lack of pressure , responsibility and effort

Exempt being Neill , Daniher , Rayner Hugh and Bailey. The kid showed a bit too , keep off his back he will be a player

Need to improve 100% to beat the suns !

what rules especially would put Gardiner in trouble? it was nasty to see and undeniably stupid, but will that be a fine/weeks?

Later on in the game we saw Cox put the knee into Starc. There was definitive aiming and adjusting going on with that knee point as he zoned in on starc there, i swear :p

Atrocious .

For both sides.

Sometimes the umps were looking straight at the contest and paid it the wrong way.

If the AFL don't do something decisive about htb the game will become just about unwatchable.

It seems now you can hold it for as long as you like when you're tackled until you spot a way out. Then out of nowhere they go red hot before the bloke hardly gets hold of it.

I've got the feeling to start the year that we're just in a bit of cruise control, doing just enough.

Nice to see Achee take his game to a new level this season.

Danniher is another example of why players coming back from long injury lay offs just need a bit of patience and time.

Our midfield will have to improve if we're to have any chance come finals.

We seem more vulnerable than years past. But out bursts of goals and momentum patches are stronger?
Still much to fix up:
Centre clearance.
Disposal into 50.

A real focus on shutting a game down with not long left.

“Hands out is 50 Harris”
Laughable. They’ve stopped paying that, then all of a sudden.

Any team can lose to anyone every week. It happens all the time.

Teams play poorly for parts of the year and win flags all the time.

Where have you been ?

Push in the back
Holding the ball
Insufficient attempt
Marking contest stuff

There were upward of 20 decisions tonight (both ways) that just left the group I was with (me and non lions fans) going ‘whaaaaaaat?’… just horrible.

FWIW this year we're the fifth best side of generating a shot on goal from an inside 50. Melbourne are fourteenth.

I recall a number of years a go Richmond had a scrappy, yet winningy start to the year which lead me to brand them 'the worst 5-0 side of all time.' Right now, I'm going on record as naming this Brisbane Lions outfit the worst 4-1 team of all time.

That Richmond call was in 2017.

1- I thought Rayner showed some really good signs tonight.
2- Daniher was good and I thought his urgency to chase was a lot better than usual.
3- McStay has sticky hands now.. awesome.
4- Ah Chee is a lock in our best side.
5- McCluggage is so silky, wouldn't want anyone but him delivering ball into F50.
6- Charlie and Linc have been off for a couple of weeks but we are still finding ways to score.

4-1 and not playing our best footy, good sign for me, we're months away from September.

You are watching the wrong game if you think that’s the case!! Maybe jump over to the premier league or Ligue 1!

I watched at a pub, can anyone confirm that was arguably the worst officiated game in living memory? It just looked so horrible both ways.
It was laughable. And certainly not from a biased lions point of view, half the free kicks we got were horrible as well.
