Coaches votes. I reckon Goddard gave Bates votes just to annoy Starce.

HAWTHORN v BRISBANE

8 - Ally Anderson (BL)
8 - Isabel Dawes (BL)
4 - Emily Bates (HAW)
4 - Dakota Davidson (BL)
2 - Jasmine Fleming (HAW)
2 - Tahlia Hickie (BL)
1 - Bridie Hipwell (HAW)
1 - Catherine Svarc (BL)

Dawes is lifting to the level we needed her to. She is still adjusting to her central role but I think we have yet to see the best of her yet. She may genuinely be turning into the sort of player that turns games. That tackle on Sunday was an example of how she wills herself to have an impact.

Ellinger’s improvement has been noticeable and she has much more involvement in games than previous seasons. She is shaping as something of an important link player.

Hickie seems to be getting back to her best after what I thought was slow start to the season.

Dakota can take big marks and kick big goals and her stepping up into the key go-to forward role wouldn’t have seemed likely even mid last season. Now she plays like she owns the forward 50.
