Weekends are just better with a Friday night win!

Not that I’m going get to ahead of myself. Fool me once, yadda yadda… Suddenly the game against the Crows is very important, and although I still stand by my view that this season can’t be measured in the wins and losses, a big number in the W column come season end would sure be nice.

It’s one thing to respond after a shocking game, as the team did this week, but Essendon needs and must back it up next week against an underperforming Crows unit. Essendon, on the back of a great win going into an away game against a lower-on-the-ladder interstate team.. I’m worried.. And yet I appreciate Brad’s own awareness of this based on his post-game press conference.

The Round That Was

Well, that was a hell of a win against a team that all too often makes fools of us…

I wonder if Stringer will ever forgive Langford for that goal.

Duursma is proving to be a great pickup. Durham is a beast! Double Ds for the win!

As for Adelaide - They did the world a favour and beat the blues in what's being called the upset of the season so far. Which is confusing, as I'm not upset at all they won; I'm elated.

The Last Time We Met

Round 17 2023 was an important battle for a place in the final with 7th taking on 8th.. Except then the arse fell out of both teams and neither made finals in the end, so I guess that win kinda meant nothing in the end.

The Selection Table

Possible Outs -
Menzies
Hind
Hobbs

Possible Ins -
Roberts (Might be worth saving for an Anzac Day Debut though)
Tsatas

There is a concerning lack of pressure on spots currently with so many poor VFL performances.

My Prediction - I think we’ll win, but it will be a tough one. Dons by 8.

Going to this one. Get me the win lads!

Out: Menzies (inj)

In: Tsatas

Hind into the best 22. Tsatas as sub.
Please no. Either starts in AFL or full game VFL. Not as sub.

Probably fair. Just not sure who to come in for Menzies who I feel will go out injured. Davey and Wanganeen are too rusty/unfit. Could potentially bring in Shiel to be sub instead.
Maybe Heppell rests as sub to manage him?

Reckon Goldy gets a freshen up for Anzac day.
Go with draper as first ruck with cox chopping him out.
Hayes gets a debut

In. Hayes, tsastas,shiel
Out Menzie( omitted) Laverde ( omitted), Goldy( rest)

OUT: Menzie
IN: Shiel

Cox McKay McGrath
Redman Lav Martin
Kelly Parish Duursma
Gresham Stringer Shiel
Jones Langford ADavey

Draper Durham Merrett

Bench: Caldwell Hobbs Heppell Goldy
SUB: Hind

If Menzie is injured (and maybe if he’s not) I’d be keen to see Archie Roberts come in to the side.

If he goes well again in VFL this week he’d have to be considered.

The opposite of Port. Port have now beaten Essendon the last 8 times and if we win this, we'd have beaten Adelaide the last 7 times.

Setterfield if he recovers and Tsatas are probably the only chance.
Menzie is not doing enough to stay in the side.

Lavs not getting g dropped after last night

Out: Menzie
In: Setterfield (if fit)

Otherwise keep the team the same and make Menzie the sub.

I really think Menzie needs to stay in. He was still able to chase and pressure, which we need. I'd rather Setters plays 100% confident rather than half ready like against Port.

Edit: If Setters comes in, maybe Hepp is rested.

He struggled tbh. I love him but JUH looked like he could do whatever he wanted….that said, he’ll make better players than Lav look silly over the course of his career.

Match up might save him….hes a reasonable fit for The Big Texan.

Based on the VFL I am only considering Hayes / Roberts / Tsatas.

Did not think Shiel did enough. Just cruised around like he was in some sort of match sim getting miles in the legs and half his possessions where easy sideways gets behind the footy. IMO he needed to pull the finger out and show some urgency.

You could give Tastas a go but my view is although he has done what he can to fix the contest issue I do not know if it is a good thing he comes back as a wing. Midfield is his spot.

If they can get 3 or 4 games in a row into Caddy he will make selection interesting.

I think he did well enough. I don’t think Scott will drop him for Hayes tbh
