Come the trade period (this suggestion might be 'over the top'), but I reckon we should make a serious play for nick reiwoldt. I know this is a post best suited for Drafts and Trading, but if we were to trade perhaps one of cachia, bell or curnow and a first round pick to the saints, could snag us reiwoldt for his last remaining years as a footballer.

Biggest obstacle will be salary cap, with Judd signing a new deal (hopefully) at the end of the year without aid from Visy...
Reiwoldt won't demand nearly the amount he is getting at the saints, just to have one last crack at a flag.

If Riewoldt was 27-28 and not 31+ then I'd be all for it.

He's been terrific this year to date but at his age and with his injury struggles, it may be just a bit too much to hand over a first rounder for.

CARLTON

With Jarrad Waite suspended for one match and Chris Yarran being substituted out of Carlton's game against Melbourne with back and hamstring tightness, there could be two enforced changes for Monday's clash with St Kilda.
The Blues are likely to welcome back vice-captain Andrew Carrazzo, who withdrew from the Demons' match with a corked calf, and could also regain Bryce Gibbs (hamstring strain).
There is no shortage of options in the VFL – Tom Bell is in great form, key forwards Levi Casboult (four goals), Luke Mitchell (three) and Sam Rowe (one) are pressing their claims, as are the likes of Dylan Buckley, potential debutant Troy Menzel, Aaron Joseph, and defenders Matthew Watson, Nick Duigan and Jeremy Laidler. - Ben Collins

Daniel Bradshaw anyone?

Speaking of injury prone tall forwards in the twilight of their careers, our own J. Waite copped Caro's arrow last night and for the first time in history I not only agreed with her, I agreed with her every word.

BUT...

Only just seen the footage of Buddy Franklin trying to put some hapless bastard into a wheelchair for the rest of his life but was not deemed worthy of any sanction at all. Waite gave someone an eskimo kiss two feet from an umpire's face and the umpire did not report him, presumably because the force would not have squashed a mosquito. I think Waite is copping a delayed whack from the backheel to the nuts of someone a while ago that he got off, much to the outrage of all the Carlton haters in the media. Anyway, he should have known better but we all know Waitey better that to think that he ever will know better.

Expect St Kilda to try and bully us on Monday night. The only way they can beat us is to make us play poorly because they are a very average team right now. They tried to stop Collingwood from scoring freely the other night I imagine in the hope that they could win a dour low scoring game, very throwback to Rossy Lyon, but it did not work and it will not work.

My big worry is that they have an out of form, B Grade small forward named Saad who could well kick 8 or 9 on us, given our propensity to play such types into once-off matches of their lives.

Hope to see Kreuzer come in for Waite and Carrots for one of Ellard, Cachia or Curnow, any of whom would be very unlucky to be dropped. And if Gibbs is ready I will dance a jig on my office desk and call for the coach to drop whoever he damn well pleases.

Don't see why we'd omit Hampson. Started slowly against Melbourne but worked his way into the game quite nicely.
What annoys/scares me is that he only started contributing when the game was all over, and against Melbourne. Nearly threw the remote at the TV several times in the first half, it frightens me to think how he'll go against a decent opposition. If it was up to me he'd be out for a more demanding forward in Casboult, especially with the now absence of Waite. A Casboult/Mitchell Forward line this week would probably be my new substitute for pr0n.

maybe the midfield was against crappy opposition but Hammer was on Frawley the whole game, a former AA full back.

No way hamper basket (case) will be dropped. Really worked into the game. He is a confidence player, wouldn't surprise me if he went for 10 marks and three goals this week. Especially against a back line of short people.

Is yaz really gonna miss? Hope not. No team will cope with the amigos rotation. Great chemistry with brock too.

My ins are carrots, levi, menz to sub

Outs: waite, ellard, cachia ( wasn't bad but has had the carrot dangled) or yaz if he is really hurt

Not rapt with Hammer..But must play this week, we can really stretch St Kilda's defence with height and on ground speed..He will be a vital part of it..

Mark my words though, I will prob be back next Tuesday saying its time to drop him...He needs to step up this week..I don't care for marks in junk time, make an impact when it is needed..

Rubbish.

St Kilda are no doubt on the decline but they remain a side who trouble us time and time again.

I'll take a win, and any margin will do thanks.

Again, I couldn't agree more. I don't know why any Blues supporter, unless incredibly bias, would have confidence in smashing the Saints. They match up well against us and have given us trouble previously. Not only that, we were just ok against a woeful Melbourne team who, if we showed a bit more ruthlessness, we would have smashed them by 100 points.

I think the game will be very close and is a 50-50 proposition at the moment.

Gibbs said he will be back against port. Doubt they would risk him, even against a bogey team.

Just quietly, how good is white going.

Well ahead of duigan to keep the list spot for mine.

Anyone tell me if patty mac will play games this year? Must be in the barrel this or next year if he aint close.

And St.Kilda's backline isn't that much better than Melbournes, in fact if Frawley can ever get back near his best, their backline will have the Saints' covered.

I find it very unlikely that we would risk Gibbs. Make sure he is absolutely right to go and if he is then bring him back against Port Adelaide.

White is performing very well at the moment and has found a spot in the backline next to Jamison and Henderson. Obviously did not start in the senior side but worked his way in past Bootsma and Davies and has not looked back. Clearly reaping the rewards of an uninterrupted preseason and is producing some very solid football as a result.

For information on Paddy Mac and how he is progressing make sure you have a look at the Northern Blues thread as well as his individual player thread. Plenty of good information in both those threads. :thumbsu:

Oh nice one. If he can get some meat on his rig, we will have some serious depth.

I concur. We are a better team for sure but still have bad patches, patches that will cost games if we don't eradicate them.

See, that's what I thought. Then my Saints fan friend (a former mod on BigFooty no less, perhaps he still is) said we'd give them a big time flogging. I tried to counter the opposite and pushed that they're a big time bogey team and he fears 12+ goals being a realistic margin.

I just want Milne to be obliterated. Could care less on the margin.

Could make it interesting come the trade period.

Sorry to intrude, but Riewoldt isn't on much this year with us (he's taken a massive pay cut over the last few years so as not to be one of the highest paid - he plays for the jumper), and there's simply no way that would get the deal done. Saints might be in full rebuild, but that doesn't mean they'll simply decide to trade out their captain for a that. I'd say it would take a lot more than that to get it done, but the intangibles of trading your captain who single handedly sets the example for the entire team next week means that I seriously doubt any deal would get it done. Just my opinion.

Your right but stating the obvious anyone would have to silly in the head to think nick would go anywhere.

There isnt many tall forwards that are superstars these days.

I favour bringing in Casboult for Waite this week, but I'm concerned that if neither he nor Hampson get going (especially kicking-wise) it may cost us the game.
