After Dan's disastrous comments this week, I felt sorry for Dimma. First bounce had Vlastiun in the guts and the mids clicked very early on. Hampson was doing well and our first 10 minutes was the best patch of footy his year. For 3 quarters, I thought the intent was there. More positives than negatives, but there were a couple of poor coaching blunders that pissed me off;

C. Elles on Breust. Too experienced and mobile. After his second goal, the change should have been made. Dimma too slow and the third Breust goal and then a change is made.

Vickery suddenly has his best 5 minutes of the year, kicks his second in as many minutes and is dragged. Ball comes straight down our forward line again to the tall timber of Lloyd and Lids. Jack on a wing. Seriously horrible coaching.

Houli in the forward line. He is low on confidence, so why move him completely out of his comfort zone ? He was there for 10 minutes, did nothing, and then he picks up Rioli. Houli has gone backwards BIG TIME.

Griffiths - as predicted, had less than 8 possessions and was pathetic. I have no idea why he plays AFL.

Our biggest problem is dealing with the spread late in quarters. We leak goals too easy due to either laziness, or lack of fitness. I think it is hard on fit players when unfit players are running around. Jack is injured. Favors kicking with the left boot. Lids was tired in the last quarter. Edwards was not his usual self.

C. Ellis was excellent in patches, and will be a much better player when settled in a midfield role. I thought he was the best of the youngsters.

Hampson was the dominant ruckman, and some of his work, especially with Miles and dusty was excellent.

Overall, I was happy with the first 3 quarters, but I left with more questions about the fitness of the players and carrying injured players into games. One thing is for certain - Vickery and griffiths need to be placed on the trade table and we need to phase out Chaplin quickly. Morris was ok tonight. Grigg was a liability.

Definite Outs - Griffiths and Chaplin

A target that rarely takes contested marks and refuses to provide any defensive pressure.
His ability to kick a few easy goals each week just adds to the frustration.
How to get him to work harder? He's been in the system long enough to know what's required. He's not a talented kid anymore.
A lot of people pot griff but fact is he does a shitload more work than vickery. Griff has a dip in the ruck whereas vickery just looks like he can't be bothered. Griffs work load around the ground is huge, all you see vickery doing is jog around and stick his arm in the air without doing the hard stuff

I would have called him a disgrace , tell him to **** off and suoport someone else .
never throw richmond gear away, we love the club, we just hate the coach and the peanuts campaigners running stuff :D

Unfortunately, your assessment has a strong element of truth to it. :(

Bruests second goal had everything to do with Castagna's brain fade and nothing to do with C.Ellis. We had control of the ball but Castagna thought he was up for a stroll through the botanical garden while Rioli was stalking him... inexperience, Ellis was just off side when this happened.

Vickery wasn't dragged, he was rotated. Coaches drag players, sports science muppets rotate them. Dimma stuffed up by not getting him back out there quicker.... JR decision to go the wing for that centre bounce is a player call, not a coaches... they simply didn't realise quickly enough they didn't have a key forward down there. Players make those setup calls after a goal, not the coach....

Griff attacked the ball well tonight and with purpose. Split some packs too and provided a lead up option when we needed it. Like the rest of the team, lacking in fitness. Has missed a few weeks with injury as well before playing 2 VFL games. Can't agree with your assessment but still should be getting a bit more ball.

Houli call is right, has lost a heap of confidence... has never fumbled this much in his life. Grigg's decision-making an execution was pretty poor at crucial times tonight and solid the rest of the time.... bit like the team really.

Didn't know any of that

It's pretty close to the truth. About 25.

I think about it like this.

They don't race horses in Ireland until they're about four, whereas in Australia we start them off as 2-y-o.

If you follow horse racing, you'll understand that the bones are softer and the muscles are softer in a young horse but the bone and muscle is harder in the older horse.

And so it is with blokes.

Watched the first half and thought you guys were playing good footy. Was pretty surprised when I saw the final score. Would have been nice to see the Hawks lose a couple in a row.
