We'd want to fix up our first quarters. Won't want to give carlton a 6 goal head start.
We'll need to be better at clearance, and keep our pressure game up as they are good at that too. And be wary of the two headed monsters
I was listening to the 2nd half of their game against Giants on the way home last week... I seriously did not hear a Giants player mentioned in the 3rd qtr. And the Blues pressure rating was through the roof. It broke some type of record, apparently...😩

I never ever look forward to Blues games, because I want to beat them that badly.

Schultz could age into something resembling John Banner in HH (not Harvey Harrison). He could all too easily go to seed once his career is over. There's not much of him height wise, so outward spread is going to be obvious. He's one of those chaps who needs a partner that diligently ensures he stays in shape via diet and lifestyle. He could become a pin up boy for Lite n Easy or Jenny Craig.

Our players need to tweak the game style to better cater for our pesky mosquito fleet. Our smalls must become hunters not huntees. We thought Essendon was making a big mistake going in tall, while we were the smart ones playing small. There was that smug feeling of us being better at reading the room than the Bummers and that horrible Scott Brother.

The game didn't exactly vindicate our belief that talls would be a liability. As we don't have any spare healthy talls, the only ones with which we need concern ourselves are those that the opposition employ against us, often to good effect. Without Murphy, our tall defenders can too readily become liquid wax figures in the fiery oven of a game.

Watching the likes of Noble stream recklessly out of defence makes offence seem worth the risk. He cops a lot of flak, but he's easy to spot and fun to watch. He does some silly things, which we like when he gets away with it, but loathe if things go amiss.

Sidebottom out and Markov in for me.
Markov showed more than enough last week to say he could play wing. Probably just needs another good game tomorrow and he'll be in

The game is such a long one I am not feeling optimistic about our capacity to keep the Carlton forwards quiet for four quarters. Our mids have been getting smashed at centre clearances for most of the season so unless we address this pronto Mckay and Curnow will have endless supply and our defense will be under siege.

The idea that adding "bulk", if by that you mean muscle, lowers your speed is an idea that was eradicated sometime last century.

Increased muscle mass might make you slower over longer distances because it is more to carry, but presuming the increased muscle has been put on in the right places,it should increase his power/speed.
Ben Johnson agrees with this.

plus we have the yellow umpires that love Curnow to deal with, could get ugly.

Not sure why Schultz is copping so much on here compared to some of the other lacklustre performers yesterday. I've said this 100 times if we used a first rounder on a kid rather than Schultz we possibly wouldn't be seeing them consolidated in the 22 for years, let alone playing one of the hardest roles in footy and kicking a goal a game. He's more susceptible to quiet games than even WHE or Lipinski in that role.

Anyway, Carlton are known to smash us on the inside. Even Cerra has been known to look like Diesel Williams against us. And Curnow will worry Moore as always and Frampton will have his hands full with McKay.

BUT if we can bring it to ground... We need to exploit spuds like Owies, Cottrell and Hollands rebounding out of the D50. If we can't do that, we don't deserve to win. I'd be tempted to bring Markov back in to play alongside Noble but I'm not sure who comes out of the backline to cater for it, unless he starts on the bench.

As others have said, I'd expect the running players of WHE and Sidebottom to bounce back after a longer lay off.

I'd like to see HH onto the field as well, deserves his spot.

The only player I can bring myself to drop for Markov is Lipinski... 🤷
yep, i'd give Lippa a spell in the ressies. just doesn't do enough for mine (last week an aberration) and is still found wanting in the clinches & refuses to go when it's his turn

_Lippa given a spell in ressies
_HH or Sullivan can play his role
_Personally, i'd play Sullivan. He can play that hybrid forward /inside mid Adams role ie. he can start forward and play minutes inside on-ball
_allows you to also move Nick back into defence, not full-time but he's more effective when he splits his time as running defender & mid.
_also gives you a semblance of precision & creativity in our defensive kick-outs. Yesterday, we either had Moore kicking 15 metres sideways to a dead pocket or Howe turning it over, off his one-step routine. Either way, our attack from full-back is totally nullified sans-Nick cos we lack a half-decent kick-out option

i'd also give Sidey a week off ..
_Reef comes in for Sidey
_WHE to a wing, to roll back & help out a porous defence
_Reef plays forward to help out Checkers
_allows Cox to be given more CS ruck time to prevent the CS bleeding. Cameron has been fine as a follower but still badly outbodied in CS ball-ups

Geez.
Yeah I reckon they might be as good as a pressure side as us, which doesn't give us any advantage.
Doesn't help if they win a clearance, they had two talls to take a mark, or.. you know.. get a free lol

Stop. I feel sick already thinking about next week.

Cannot understand those wanting a Pies/Blues GF. I personally could not think of anything worse & seriously don't think I'd get through the week.

Dreading this game. Won’t be there because I can’t really do Friday night games. Not sure I could handle it if they win. Those “fans” are just too much to stomach. I miss when they were all hiding in the woodwork, or tearing up their memberships.

The first game we played them last year was a fun game to attend. That's when they were playing shite, their fans were at their abusive best & they were literally laughing about how bad they were.

Fk it was a fun night & the walk out of the G was a hoot.

Their presence in the finals, all the way to prelims, really put a huge damper on the finals series for me last year.

They’ve been dormant for 20 years or so and I’d forgotten just how much I truly hate them!

Now you have mugs like Curnow who is untouchable like Craig Bradley in their previous heyday

I presume it’s muscle. He looks far more heavy set than last season. And last season he was more heavy set than the year before.

It makes him look more cumbersome. Whether that’s the cause of his decline in form or not is debatable. But he doesn’t look as athletic to me now.

I am yet to check his sprints stats. If he’s still running as fast. I’ll be surprised if he is.

We’re not absorbing pressure from opposition all that well this season. We cannot let them get off to a start like we’ve allowed the past two weeks.

How it makes him "look" is in the eye of the beholder. All things being equal, more muscle mass on an AFL footballer makes it more likely his top end speed is faster.

You got my attention at Carmichael. I reckon he's the type of player who plays better in the AFL if given a chance

We were able to snatch a draw yesterday off the back of forward pressure. Add Carmichael in his current form to the forward mix and the cost is forward pressure.

At some point we need to get more creative with our midfield.

Why can't McCreey, IQ Scultz, Hill get a run through the middle? I wanna see something fresh and dynamic.

All four of the above players were under utilized yesterday and/or not influential.

As for Sidey I reckon he would be more dangerous up forward
