No mechanics...WE NEEDED TO KEEP A FIRST ROUND PICK IN THE DRAFT, we didn't need points, we needed the FIRST ROUND PICK. Ffs, how hard is this to understand???? I have actually spoken to people about this and every one of them said the same thing, money was not an issue on the deal THE FIRST ROUND PICK WAS THE ISSUE.

The points system will not get us Ben King or any other player we need to use first round picks on UNLESS they are father/son or academy picks (like ugle-hagan was for the dogs). You of all people I didn't think I needed to explain this to this much
My god you are a moron.

if we could afford Treloar - which we couldn’t as explained in the article from the other day. It would have cost a second round pick.
There was no need for a first rounder to change hands if we traded for Treloar. As clearly explained in that tweet for Callum Twomey. Pick 14 was traded for additional points to match the number 1 pick bid. WHICH WE WOULDN’T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT.

We probably didn't have the 600k plus just sitting there in the cap ready to go for that length of time considering we had already committed to Crouch on a similar deal. But we could have re-worked some exisiting contracts if we had too IF we also had the trade assets to get the deal over the line, which we didnt.

But also, the entire Treloar scenario shows just recklessly handing out contracts without any planning or that goes against your salary cap plan is just setting yourself up for failure.

But do you have a PHD in draft mechanics?
We will soon find out which one has a PHD in draft mechanics and which one has a PHD in daft mechanics.

Twomey said the deal theoretically worked out to be worth a future 2nd round pick, not that any club could have just handed over a 2nd round pick to get the deal done.

Saying we could have got a similar trade deal done when we were operating under a different system last year than the Dogs is just misleading.

Mate it was 2 deals done at the deadline worked into one.
The cost of Treloar was never a first round pick. The pies initially asked for one and were told no by everyone in the market for him.

there is enough media on it if you can’t believe me.

Moron? It's not about points....bulldogs wanted draft points, Collingwood wanted draft picks...they wanted a first round pick for him.. saints weren't giving them one...I don't understand how hard this is to understand???

If we hadve traded the first round pick...because it was so late in the trade period, there was every chance they wouldn't have gotten back into the first round by off loading them in time. Thus, didn't trade them a first round pick they already had...once again, not hard to understand. The bulldogs first pick was collateral because ether didn't need it as it would have been swallowed up in the ugle hagan pick, this the 4 second rounders worked better from them, we would have had to hand over the first rounder. We may have got seconds back, however we would be without a first rounder I'm the draft, which we needed for future trading.

If we didn't use a first last year, would have had to have been used which would put us in a horrible trading spot this year

It may be WORTH a second round pick on points...but saints didn't need points, they needed a first round pick. That's it, saints said under no circumstances we were moving out of the first round. At all.
Stop with the points, its about the PICK. If we got treloar we wouldn't have had a first round pick. Therefore we would HAVE to use this year's first, now we can be flexible with it.
The contract was no issue, as others said, other contracts could have been re jigged. We needed that first rounder and weren't giving it up

At the point of time when we publicly pulled ourselves out of any dealings, it was still a first round pick being discussed in the media. Especially when our first rounder was projected to be pushed back into the 20s.

We also didnt have a 2nd round pick to use with our other trades going on. So either way, we didn't have the picks to get a deal done.

I reckon we would have got a second back, but it was the first rounder that was the sticking point

I sincerely hope Long is not anywhere near the emergencies or the 22 next week. i have a feeling I’m really going to have some melts on Thursday.

It was the double of Crouch going off at the exact same time.

Our best mid and a key structural piece at once is hard to cover.
Good point. That just knocked the wind out of our sails. Crouch was close to best on ground at that time. Boy he’s been a solid pickup. Can’t complain about him at all.

Word on the street is that De Goey is gettable, if we can get Hanners off our books to free up some cash we should make a play for him.

He can kick straight for goal which is a big plus.

I was never the biggest fan of him at Adelaide, buts he's really surprised me. His disposal is much better than advertised, strong tackler, his clearance work is great.

He's been the perfect partner for Steele, allowing him to spend a bit of time forward and be a bit more of a round mid rather than inside only.

I was the same. I had him pegged as an accumulator in the Tom Mitchell mould. Lots of possessions but doesn't hurt you much. I've been really impressed with him since we got Ryder and Marshall back in tandem. Combining those two with Crouch and Steele was a big asset for us. Such a pity the combo is going to be split up again with injury. They would've really tested the Dogs next week.

I heard from someone I trust that we are close to maximum cap and couldn’t afford Treloar’s contract. A lot are legacy contracts from the past.
