Wouldn't want to slip into old habits against the Bombers. Early doors, they did to Port at centre bounce what Port did to us.
They are very quick with handball around stoppage.
We will have to be on top of our game in there.
On the plus side they don’t have Peter Wright to tear us a new one.

Oscar will need to be at his best particularly with Draper playing some good footy, he’s is one that’s hard to stop when he is on.
But I will back Oscar in.
Draper seems really good at winning a clearance by bursting through any congestion and running clear of it.

He's very mobile ,a good mark and a strong ruckman.

Oscar will need a strategy to limit his influence.

I certainly don't want him rushed back.

We can win this one without him.

We just came off one of our best two way running performances. No longer relying on Zorko or Rich. It's great to see.

He runs hard forward after they win a stoppage and become part of their handball chain.
Running is not Oscars strong suit

Dermott Brereton team rankings today on SEN, the Lions at 4, 3- Magpies, 2- Cats, 1- Demons...

Not verbatim > They have beaten Collingwood, Melbourne, (Bulldogs LOL). and Carlton, some pretty good scalps in there, but I just want to see their big key forwards play real power forward games against real good opposition.

Say you don't watch Brisbane play without saying you don't watch Brisbane play.

Draper and Phillips would make me consider bringing Fort back in (feel like this will be a discussion every week).

I get what you are saying.

My two cents is that they aren’t incredibly damaging in the actual ruck contests like Gawn and Grundy. Phillips does alright resting forward and Draper gets hyped but isn’t revolutionary in his craft. Daniher will be able to break even at least and did fine against Jackson two weeks ago.

In the backline go Andrews to Phillips/Draper, Lester to Langford and Payne to Weideman.

I think Im also considering if we want to play both of them against Melbourne come finals, they probably need to work on the combination at some point during the year. So if we look at teams that are playing both rucks, then we should consider them as practice games with an eye to Melbourne.

If we dont do it, Im also ok with it. But then we have to question not playing both rucks against Melbourne and stick to the system we have played all year

Lmao let’s see:

Daniher kicked four against Melbourne but apparently that’s not good enough?

Daniher and Hipwood kicked two each against Collingwood. Daniher dominated in the midfield while playing backup ruck. Apparently though tall forward just needs five to be considered power forwards.

Daniher kicks two while once again doing well through the midfield as backup ruck against Carlton. Hipwood kicks one while playing an incredibly unselfish high pressure game. Cameron and Bailey don’t kick four each without some of Hipwood and Joe’s hard work throughout the game.

I’m failing to see how having a balanced forward line is apparently a burden. Not only was he objectively wrong in none of our tall forwards playing a real good power forward game but it’s also ignoring how proficient our other forwards have been throughout games this year.

Would be worth him examining how Hipwood and Daniher only managed one more goal compared to McKay and Curnow and yet they look ten times more present and effective throughout the entire game. Such a vague statement regardless holds no merit.

Watching the Carlton game (on the tv) I thought Oscar was good in the first half, but seemed to tire in the second half. I thought the Carlton ruck got on top in the last and that led to a mini come back by the Blues.

Rucks are a strength for the Dons around clearances (but make them slow). I wonder if the selectors would consider a soft drop for Oscar and bring in Fort.

Kiddy may need a break as well. I’d bring in AhChee.

should win given the form of both teams and Dons recent travel schedule. (Real stuff up at VFL house)

Brereton had us finishing outside 8 in the pre-season predictions.

Someone should keep reminding him that every single week.

If you have crappy forwards, you get marked up because they're overperforming. If you have good forwards, you get marked down because they're not meeting expectations. Basic punditry.

We have a good midfield and rank 1st for center clearances 14.1 per game just in front of our opponent Essendon with 14.00.
Lions are also ranked 1st at stoppage clearances being 29 per game but Essendon is ranked last with 21.9 per game.

Looks like both teams' defenders will need to pay good attention to their respective forward counterparts at all CBA's this week.

They will be without their best defender in Jordan Ridley this week. Can't see Essendon stopping our forwards from kicking 100+.

Does anyone remember maybe a decade ago we played Essendon at the Gabba and I reckon it was one of the coldest nights to be outside and at the footy. It was freezing!

Nobody remembers that moment.
