Does Boydman get invited to family reunions with Russell and Greg ;)

You blokes lost in 76 and 84 blah blah, Abernethy hit the post in that final in 86 :p why did they sack Ebert in 87  Cahill only won those flags in 88 to 90 due to being at Collingwood

Sturt's 5 in a row were better than the Magpies' 6 in a row. Fos was a hack.

Umm. Do we know each other? Is that you Chris?
Hmm. I think i've just been psycho-analysed.
For the record, sturt never were better than ports

You blokes lost in 76 and 84 blah blah,

84 we psyched ourselves out. i dont want to think about 76

Abernethy hit the post in that final in 86
dont take me to 86. woodville

:p why did they sack Ebert in 87
it was time to go

Cahill only won those flags in 88 to 90 due to being at Collingwood
there was more than that but those 3 were IMO the best flags we ever won

never

Fos was a hack.[/quote]
nope

pstew2dstew, I'm just confused about why you think Travis Boak's 16 disposal, 9 contested possession, 4 clearance game while playing injured and with a heavy tag from a guy who has kept Chris Judd to less than 16 disposals in the past was bad and yet Matt Thomas' 16 disposal, 7 contested possession, 2 clearance game while playing fit and free across a HFF was excellent?

You know what the funny thing about it is? It was the worst game Travis Boak has played all year and the best game 'Big Matty T ' had played all year, and yet Boak was STILL just as good if not better. That's because Boak is, always has been and always will be a much, much, much better footballer than Thomas and you display either a lack of football knowledge or an inability to prevent whatever weird agenda you have against one of our best players and for one of our worst players from clouding your football knowledge whenever you suggest otherwise.

this is the relative argument
and matt thomas is better than lonie was
roger james was better than boak ever will be, as was francou
my point in this thread is if he doesnt renew his contract- im sure we'll be compensated sufficient that we_should_consider a good offer.

tag or no tag
"injury" or no "injury"
i believe we've seen his upside. It is good. no one questions that. but its not elite and i do not believe he ever will be.
Boak is a 1-2 playmaker at best IMO
He doesn't even do 1-2 give and get 50m downfield like real gut running mids do
I don't know if i can ever remember seeing him run and carry the ball.

the only players on our list i believe might be elite are: Wingard, Butcher & Trengove. As in, potential AA inside 3 seasons.

But if Primus remains coach it won't happen

You dont believe that we should have higher expectations of an allegded A grader as opposed to a plodder like Thomas?

EDIT: Where has someone at the club said that Boak is injured?

Well wtf does his manager say things like "oh hes going home during the bye to have a think about it" when realistically hes going home to say g'day to his ****ing family?

Pushing up his price? Probably. Frustrating? Yes!

Shits me.

I doubt the club wants to make it official that he's playing through injury - showing signs of weakness, becoming more of a target during games, etc.

But Tredders alluded to the fact that he gets injections before every game in his foot and a few posters have it on good word that he definitely has a pretty severe foot injury.

It's the manager's prerogative to get the best possible deal for his client. You shouldn't have any issue with it.

That is the role of the manager, otherwise they are paying money for nothing.

This will be a big contract for Boak, 100% confident he will sign up but he is allowed to stay loyal and ask for more money.

God knows we have offered some terrible contracts over the years, offering our most important players decent $$$$ is the least we can do for a small market club.

Yes, but putting expectations aside and looking at things objectively, Boak wasn't any worse than Thomas, yet we have the same people using Thomas' game as evidence that he's a good player and Boak's game as evidence that he's not.

As far as I'm concerned, the only people who should get some leeway for their form in comparison to others when determining who should be in the side are the younger players. Not only is Thomas not a younger player, he's actually older than Boak. His better games aren't any better than Boak's shit games. If one of them had to be dropped, I know who I'd pick.

Tredders doesn't seem the type to make things up. As Bernie said, the club probably doesn't want to make it public and rightly so.

Does anyone remember two years ago?

This exact same thing happened, "Boak went home to talk to his family."

The media swooped on it.

Its a good managers job to get their player more money, which is what will happen. And Boaky will sign up.

Boak isn't leaving.

You've been right a few times before. I hope you know something we don't. This reminds me of the Butcher episode we had last year.

I briefly heard on the radio he will decide in the next 3 weeks. I wasn't listening entirely so I could have it wrong. At least he will put us out of our misery sooner rather than later.

Whilst it's fun to consider what he may be worth in a trade scenario this seems like nothing more than a media beat up to me.

Given the passionate words Travis spoke about the club pre-season it seems a stretch to think he would have a done a complete 180 in mindset in eight weeks. According to the media in the past we would have already lost Boak twice, Butcher would have returned to Victoria, Trengove would be playing for Richmond or Essendon etc.

Boak isn't going anywhere.

I highly doubt he's giong to want to go to Geelong. Think of it this way, he's been at Port and gone through a massive low point, lots of losing and stress and now when he thinks we are starting to come up again slowly he can go to Geelong which is on the downward and ready for a rebuild. Doing this he gives himself the possibility of being in a losing team most of his career whilst the probability is Port will rise past Geelong and play finals for multiple years in the future which he'd miss out on. I know what I'd do and I also think it's why GWS and GC didn't really attract our guys even with big cash offers, if you've been losing for the first 5 years of your career you don't want to risk then going for money and losing for the next 5 and having no success to show for 10 years of toiling at an elite sport.

Yeah but in a game like ours for the extra money I really doubt he's going to want to put up with more losing. Look at it when clubs are winning players always choose a lower deal over more money because they want to keep winning, it's when they've had success they are happy to move for more money but maybe not winning ie Ablett etc.

If Boak were to try and **** off, this would be a good year for it. Yay superdraft.

Move on nothing to see here

Do you think Geelong 3x premiership players would accept a good average player getting 700k a year.......in your dreams

He is going nowhere, just manager milking PAFC for cash

Go from a number 1 player on a list to number 10, not in your life
