Rumour Rumors of cat player in big trouble

I don't think this is hyperbole to say, that if found guilty, this could likely be the worst incident involving an AFL footballer, in modern AFL history.
It has shades of Stephen Milne's incident 20 years ago. It took a decade before he was kinda, sorta, found guilty to some of the charges.

Little prick of a shit.

I'd like to think that ball bounce was some kind of karma.

Not that that makes up for any of it. Was just amusing AF to watch

Look im not smart person lol. What does that mean,

The magistrate has decided that to protect the victim, certain things cannot be discussed in media. Such as the name of the charged person.

So here we are.

I think you’ll find that due to the error of the court in naming a said person, which I believe is available online, the suppression order will be dropped at the next appearance.

Cat supporters on edge
Nonsense.
Pure gibberish.

If there ends up being a guilty verdict the player involved will be sacked and fans of all 18 clubs will condemn those actions.
There won't be sympathy or mental gymnastics to justify it.

Think before you post.

Legitimate question? What would you suggest they do in this circumstance? Because his finger was in a splint, so there's at least deniability. At the worst the AFL fines them. If they just remove him from any club photos, training etc. it becomes obvious, questions are asked, and they likely unwittingly violate the court suppression order. The fine from the AFL is nothing compared to what an organization violating a court order would look like.

I do agree that injury lists are complete bull though. Cam Guthrie vanished for half the year last year, before he even got a mention. We all knew he was a write off, but the club played the game. All clubs do it, and 'TBC' is just another way around that.

This situation feels different though. Legitimately don't know what they could have done.

You strip back the bullshit is a very serious, non football issue and just do the complete basics. Because it’ll already all come out anyway.

We live in an age of such spin and bullshit that most can’t imagine a world without it - including those media spinners themselves.

You HAVE to say something. You HAVE to spin it. This is why I exist. I HAVE to do / say something.

The most obvious and straightforward approach isn’t even considered.

Firstly, acknowledge that there is no way to “win” this. For media spinners, it’s all about winning by getting one over, by hiding something successfully, by telling a plausible lie.

Just forget that. There’s no way to win a situation like this.

(The Geelong folks tried to, by lying).

Secondly, don’t lie. You are under no obligation to tell a lie. Especially one that is so blatantly transparent that it doesn’t even serve purpose anyway. If you feel like you have to lie in a situation like this, then say nothing. There’s no strategic win here by lying. You’re not successfully throwing the opposition of the scent regarding a player in an upcoming game. This is different. There’s nothing be gained with a lie.

So the actual strategy is simple:

1) Remove him and say nothing initially. Not a word. You don’t need to game this by “getting in front of it” which I guarantee is the sort of mindset that would’ve been happening at Geelong here. Because it’s how all two-bit PR types work.

2) When you’re asked, the better response is just “XXXX is away from the club at the moment. We are unable to provide any further details at this time. We will seek to answer any further questions if or when we are able.” The end.

You’re not violating a suppression there. You’re not saying anything. Any firestorm or circus or assumption that follows that is either already happening anyway, or it will be very soon.

You really don’t need to lie and add further bullshit to an already very dark situation. It’s just the first instinct of every PR hack in 2025 is to do that, because it’s all they’re trained to do.

Considering the info has already made its way into the public domain anyway, this suggestion never ever would have worked

Would you find it so distasteful if it was another club implicated?

What a ridiculous question.

Do you think that when this allegedly happened, it happened because the guy doing it thought ‘I play for Geelong so guess what I’m going to do….’ And then he went and did it?

Equally do you think if he played for another club, would that be the reason he allegedly committed the crime?

Then why is anyone at all using club allegiance to pass judgement on the issue in general?

This place is a deadset cesspool at times.

The incident in question is a disgrace and I’m yet to see a single Cats fan suggest otherwise, and to a man, every single one of us, assuming the person in question is guilty, wants him dealt with appropriately.

For some reason we are wrong for thinking that, and it’s the club’s fault that it happened in the first place, and our condemnation of his actions isn’t enough.

One former Sydney, Port and Brisbane player was, basically, a likely sex offender. That’s not on the clubs he played for.
St Kilda likewise, other clubs as well; they’ve all had players who have done this or that and they’re grown adults, it’s not the club’s responsibility to make them obey basic human decency codes so why would we hold other clubs to a different standard to our own?

Well, to be fair, almost every scandal to come out of the AFL in the past 2 decades has involved big or succesful Vic clubs, thats no coincidence, success breeds arrogance.
Assaulting someone is an act of arrogance, I can do that to you because your feelings are insignificant.

So yes, when you have a club and supporter base that walks a fine line and is happy to gloat about getting away with it, as we see in other threads. Thats the type of arrogance that may lead a young person to believe they can do as they please.

It literally would have been committed right after he was traded from GWS? He has traded at the end of 22' and the offence happened in Feb 23'.
But sure, Geelong just churns out rapists by the dozens! A factory of ignorant, misogynists by culture! /s

Thats not what I said.

He did end up at the reigning Premiers though..

Sure thing dude- clearly that means zilch- so many insecure tiger supporters swarm every Geelong thread. It’s a testament to how long the cats have been relevant and how long the tigers haven’t been, that you are so envious, so desperate to see us fall. It’ll happen one day dude, not to worry. But unlike so many of your mob, I won’t be losing any sleep over it. Season after season of being a real chance - does wonders for the soul-leaves one content and happy to see others have success.

I think this situation says more about the accused personally than it does the club.
Lets be clear here - we all want to see this behavior prosecuted with the full force of the law - if parties are found guilty.
But this is not a matter for footy clubs to handle, it is a serious criminal matter.
