On the Greg Lynn committal proceedings Crown Prosecutor Mr Dickie said 'It is clear hopefully from the document, and if it's not clear from the document it's clear hopefully from the charges put before the court, that it is alleged of course that the accused acted with murderous intent when he allegedly killed the two victims.'

The music played loudly so doors could be open so Russell Hill is left holding the gun that killed Carol Clay. That is where it begins...Any other story & how to account for his gun!

Wasn’t Russell hill a bit of a ****wit? Drove like a lunatic. Was aggro and had a firearm? Is it possible to suggest he instigated this whole thing by being an angry nut whereby an accident happened?

Can’t help but feeling G Lynn might get off here if enough doubt is created.

There's plenty of evidence to suggest he started a confrontation. Dislike of hunters, it's my campsite etc. But evidence of that only. Nobody should end up dead just because they're a miserable old whinging git.

I doubt we will ever see a case like this again. Two unrelated parties both without any criminal record getting into a fight ending in multiple deaths right in the middle of vast open Wonnangatta valley.

If this was written as a fictional story most of us would never believe it could actually happen.

Hill didn't have a firearm. His father left him a shotgun when he died and Hill handed it in.

Provocation used as a defence for murder has been removed from Victorian Statutes.

A reasonable person walks way.

A reasonable person does not kill one party and be instrumental in tke death of another

People have crammed into the Supreme Court to watch Mr Lynn give evidence, in what is likely to be a key moment in his double murder trial.
The former Jetstar pilot's wife and son are among the crowd of people who squeezed into the court's public gallery, where there is standing room only.
Some of the families of Russell Hill and Carol Clay are also present. More than a dozen journalists are closely watching on.
The jury has just been brought in and Mr Lynn, 57, has been called to the stand.

Reporting by Jesse Thompson.
Mr Lynn's lawyer, Dermot Dann KC began his questioning by asking Mr Lynn whether answers he gave to police during an interview in November 2021 were truthful.
In the interview, Mr Lynn gave his account of the accidental deaths of Carol Clay and Russell Hill, as well as his decisions to set fire to their campsite and move their bodies afterwards.
"In that record of interview, did you attempt to tell the truth at all times?" Mr Dann KC asked.
"At all times," Mr Lynn replied.

Reporting by Jesse Thompson.
Mr Lynn is being asked to explain the meaning of diagrams he drew for police during his November 2021 interview.
One of the diagrams, shown to the court, roughly depicts the layout of the Bucks Camp campsite where Mr Lynn says the elderly campers were accidentally killed during separate struggles over a knife and a gun.

A series of boxes at the top of the diagram is a calendar used by Mr Lynn to date his journey into the area in March 2020.
"I was there at Bucks Camp on the Wednesday, the Thursday, and on the Friday, I left in the middle of the night," he explained

Accused discusses fatal struggle over shotgun

Reporting by Jesse Thompson.
Mr Lynn has given the court a detailed account of what he says was the struggle for control of a shotgun that resulted in the death of Carol Clay.
The former Jetstar pilot's lawyers argue Mrs Clay, semi-crouching near Russell Hill's vehicle, was accidentally shot in the head as Mr Hill and Mr Lynn struggled for control of Mr Lynn's 12-gauge shotgun, which Mr Hill had seized following a dispute.
In the witness stand, Mr Lynn demonstrated where on the weapon his hands were placed as the struggle unfolded.
His lawyers have argued Mr Hill's finger was on the trigger when it accidentally discharged.
"And in the [police] interview do you remember your answers as to the angle of the gun when it discharged?" Mr Lynn's lawyer, Dermot Dann KC, asked.
"It was pointed slightly down," Mr Lynn replied.

Reporting by Jesse Thompson.
The court's attention is turning now to the Wonnangatta Valley campsite where the March 2020 dispute unfolded.
Mr Lynn was shown an aerial view of Bucks camp.
He marked the picture to demonstrate where both he and the elderly couple camped. This photo is an exhibit from earlier in the trial so it hasn't been marked, but it gives you an idea of what the area looked like.

Mr Lynn described seeing Mr Hill walking back to his vehicle after allegedly seizing Mr Lynn's shotgun from the back seat of his Nissan Patrol.
The former Jetstar pilot said he could see Mr Hill trying to load a magazine into the weapon.

Reporting by Jesse Thompson.
Mr Lynn has described the state of the campsite after Mrs Clay and Mr Hill were killed.
"There was a very large pool of blood on the ground in between [Russell Hill's] landcruiser and the tent," he said.
He told the court he wore a pair of gloves as he moved about the area.
"The scene was horrendous".

You would think as a hunter of large animals he would have plenty of rubber gloves and cleanup stuff for carcases.

Focus turns to Mr Lynn's hunting weapons

18m ago
By Tim Callanan
Reporting by Jesse Thompson.
Mr Lynn, a hobby deer hunter, has taken the jury through his hunting weapons, telling the court he takes a rifle for longer range targets.
The 12-gauge shotgun, on the other hand, is preferable for "closed, thick forest where it's going to be darker, where I'm not going to be shooting more than 20 or 30 metres", he said. This is the weapon alleged to have accidentally killed Carol Clay.
Mr Lynn said the shotgun is fitted with a laser pointer that "shows you pretty much exactly where the solid slug will fly through the air".
Jurors have previously been shown a 12-gauge Barathrum shotgun that killed Carol Clay.(Supplied: Supreme Court of Victoria)
Mr Lynn's lawyers contend Mr Hill's finger was on the trigger when the shotgun accidentally fired, travelling through a side-view mirror before striking Mrs Clay.
"If someone had shot Carol Clay with the laser sight on, the laser would have illuminated on the mirror and not on Carol Clay," Mr Lynn said.

Russell Hill 'probably not' trying to shoot Mr Lynn during struggle

17m ago
By Tim Callanan
Reporting by Jesse Thompson.
Mr Lynn has told the court Russell Hill probably wasn't intending to shoot him when the retiree, by Mr Lynn's account, seized his 12-gauge shotgun after a dispute between the two men, prompting the fatal struggle that resulted in the death of Carol Clay.
"I don't know if he intended to shoot me or not. Probably not," he said.
"I think he was probably just trying to keep the shotgun for himself and scare me off."

Remote site carries ‘very hard’ memories

5m ago
By Tim Callanan
Reporting by Jesse Thompson.
Mr Lynn has told the court he would have led police to the remote site where he dumped and burned Carol Hill and Russell Hill's bodies if investigators "really couldn't find it".
He was asked why he didn't want to go there.
"Memories of the whole time are very hard," he said.

Giving evidence.
Claims there was a 20mm hole in the mirror.
Surely bigger than that. Especially if it blew CCs skull all over the place. Can't think why he got rid of it. Maybe blood on it?
Claims he wanted to.remove traces of RH on the gun. That would indicate close range.
Been questioned now on angle.
The sketch he drew is jibberish.
But he claims she crouched behind the tire bullet went through the middle and into CC.
I reckon there is a chance there was a struggle for the gun.
This is a mess to sort. All you really have is GLs version. Can forensics be called back to verify. Wonder if defence will have other witnesses?

She was crouching as he hunted her for being a witness IMO

"If someone had shot Carol Clay with the laser sight on, the laser would have illuminated on the mirror and not on Carol Clay," Mr Lynn said.

I knew he was going to use that.

No evidence the mirror was actually shot through though right? It may not have been the first shot and the actual door may have been moving as she's getting in to or going in and out of the passenger side door.
