Welcome back everyone. Time to talk Torch nominations. Whose turn is it this week to join PMBangers and Kilroy on the big table? Let's gooooo!!

round 3b.gif

The Committee spent literally millions of years poring through the match threads and put forward four candidates to be thrown onto the threshing floor. Perennial candidate Supersuns found his name in the discussion for a third week in a row, gaining impressive mileage out of the Bastyy fan club while at the same time offering a refreshing point of differentiation from the other rookies. Young Dragon T2B_ pushed teammate VandoHawk out of the way to earn consideration from his work in the Bomber-Dragon Spamapalooza thread. His repertoire is starting to develop, and his week-on-week improvement means he stands on the precipice of nomination.

Round one Gun nominee guero stepped out of the shadows of both his teammates Muddiemoose & tony, as well as his prodigy little brother Dr Smartypants, to be considered for a Torch nomination. Another to start finding his feet in the match threads, old mate Joe Dirt included such Covid-inspired hobbies as breadmaking, poetry and sibling rivalry to compliment the usual banter. The final rookie that the Committee considered was young Swamprat projectv, who becomes the first rookie that I can remember to be shortlisted for both Gun (the on-field bit) and Torch (the off-field bit) in the same week, so kudos to you for that. Quality over Quantity is this kid's game, and he stood up with toilet paper economics, ISO certifications and poking dead bodies with sticks.

Another strong list for the Committee to sort through, and another tight contest. But in the end we could only choose one this week, so please give it up for the first dual Nominee for season 30 in guero!

Joining guero and I in discussion this week is Las Vegas captain Test Tickle and vice captain MWPP. I first spoke with the Bears leadership.

Bob: Hey Testy, welcome back. And thanks for joining us MWPP, great to see you too. The rise of the Bears is gathering momentum both on & off the field, you both must be chuffed! How does it feel to have one of you rookies nominated for the Torch of the Week?

Testy: Well thanks Bo-

MWPP: [puts a finger to Test Tickle's lips] Imma stop you right there, bossman. [turns to Bob] We couldn't be more proud of everyone on our team, and we are stoked for guero to be getting some well deserved recognition, even if he was also robbed of a second Gun of the week nomination after that scintillating 39 possession effort!

Bob: OK then, Testy you can take a nap. MWPP, I've already asked Testy how you got guero to Las Vegas when we last spoke. How is he looking now we're a few rounds in?

MWPP: As expected based on our interactions elsewhere, he has settled right in and is showcasing the faith that we paid in him, and his on-field and off-field talent.

Bob: Nice. What has guero's posting style been like?

MWPP: It's still evolving, but so far:

A good blend of wit,

Humour, nerdiness and life

Diverse and gets it

Bob: Settle down there, Emily Dickinson! How are the other Bear cubs travelling, and have any rookies from other teams caught your eye yet?

MWPP: I love what each of our 3 amigos/Mooskateers/Stooges have added.

tony epitomises quality over quantity. His weekly gifs are an absolute delight and haven't gone unnoticed by our opponents either, and he always chimes in. He's building towards something special.

Muddiemoose brings moose gifs a real energy around the place. Overall Moose has lived up to his high pre-draft rating (not an easy feat), whilst the other two have gained some much deserved recognition for their contributions after lower key starts. All 3 have found their feet a short period of time and have a great chemistry.

From other teams, I think omgfridge (another from the Eagles Board
) deserves some credit. As guero's nemesis, he was beaten on and off the field and only managed 2 frees against but took it on the chin. I expect him to feature in future episodes this season.

Bob: The Bears are having a red hot crack at the rebuild. Early days it looks like it's paying dividends, but it may not be the finished article just yet. Is there anyone you'd want to see recruited to Las Vegas?

MWPP: There's a list of players I would love to play alongside personally (and they know who they are) but in the interests of team balance, the greater good of the league and where we are at - I'll proudly back our current squad in. There's already a great vibe and mood in our team at the moment and we are still building. And sometimes it's more fun to banter against rather than with friends anyway.

Bob: You have a couple of other high profile rookies in Muddiemoose and tony who are yet to receive a nomination, whereas guero now has two. Is guero really awesome or are the other two not that good?

MWPP: @guero actually should have at least 3 by now as he really is awesome! The other two aren't just good though- they're great.

Gun of the week nominations are sim/luck based anyway. Also as above tony is quality over quantity and could easily be missed /overshadowed, but he is building. I also think people are ranking Muddiemoose on a different chart to the other rookies based on the lofty standards from his high profile off-season. I am sure they will gain more recognition from outside our club as the season goes on, but more importantly, they both know how much our team has valued their contributions /them as people.

Thanks for that MW, and you too Testy I suppose. Now let's turn to this week's nominee.

Bob: Congrats guero. You're running late and looking a bit worse for wear however mate, is everything alright?

guero: Yeah mate, I'm on the mend. Me and the crew hit the turps a bit hard last night when we heard about my Torch nom. Bastards stripped me and tied me to a lamp post in down town Vegas again so I ended up spending the night in the drunk tank. Luckily they still had my clothes from when I was in on Monday night so it wasn't too embarrassing for the other inmates.

Bob: Fair enough, it's something worth celebrating. How does it feel to be the first of the season 30 rookie cohort to receive both Gun & Torch nominations?

guero: It feels bloody brilliant mate. Obviously it reflects well on the club, without quality people around me it wouldn't have been possible.

Bob: How have your first few weeks been with Testy, MWPP & the Bears? Have you learned anything from when we last spoke?

guero: Yes and no.

Bob: Cryptic but alright. How do you prepare for a match thread?

guero: I usually completely forget about them and log in after about 20 pages or so. But I was in early on the Gumbies' thread because of my rivalry with a few of their players - most notably the ham-fisted omgfridge.

Bob: Mmmm, ham. What would you like to achieve off field during your SFA career? Have you ventured into the world of media yet?

guero:
To be honest I have no expectations for my SFA career. I'm just happy to be here and contributing. Yeah, I've posted one media piece which is widely regarded as the best of S30 so far.

Bob: Huh. Have there been any other teams that have stood out for you in the match threads or posters that you like the look of?

guero: No and yes.

Bob: Let me rephrase the question then. Have you clashed with teams, or have you found a nemesis yet?

guero: My rivalry with omgfridge is well known. He was my b*tch on the weekend though, so it's pretty bloody obvious which of us is the best qooty player. Has anyone mentioned the fact I had 39 touches and 9 marks? What a ******* incredible game, I wouldn't be at all surprised if it's the best ever.

Bob: Easy tiger. I asked Testy before about what other recruits he may want to see come over to Las Vegas, and I'd like to ask you the same thing. Is there anyone you'd want to see recruited to the Bears? I hear you have a pretty talented younger brother.

guero: fu** off. This interview is over...

Bob: Seriously though, how cool would it be to have brothers play together? You could be like the Abletts, with your brother being Gary and you being Geoff.

guero? Mate? You'd be Geoff Ablett. He was the mayor of Casey Council...

Fair enough then. Congrats again, here's a miniature novelty Torch trophy to go with your Gun one. Don't bother trying to hock them as they're worth bugger all.

The season is progressing, and the nominations keep coming. Who will be on the couch next week? Only one way to find out.

I hope we can announce the winner in this week.
Me too! Hopefully the nominee doesn't go on a bender and isn't ready to be interviewed until after Studio Bob is shut for the week.

I'll once more throw support out for a recent opponent, Supersuns deserves the round 4 nom, his KFC chat is easily the best outside of the hawks camp
Don't remember seeing you in the Committee room.

Congratulations guero, you deserve it. Great interview as well.
This week its your turn to win Muddiemoose.

The disrespect given to previous nominees here is disgusting, I almost feel like a former Adelaide player
Just because you got let into the club, doesn't mean you get access to the VIP Room.

I'm using my mates list though, his name is Loonerty, he tagged me to use it on Facebook, free entry to VIP Room + a drink.
